Because it feels like I'm taking crazy pills. This campaign is looking like a rerun of 2008, especially through the Party automata at the top of the ticket. Harris is Obama and Walz, especially, is Biden. We've already seen this movie. Walz' selection looks to me like it came directly out of the 2008 playbook. We have a non-white communist at the top of the ticket, so get a boring old white guy to act as a counterweight and blend into the background. Also, make sure he's an unlikable, unaccomplished and combative liar who nobody would want in the big chair. It isn't the same in all or even most of the particulars, but the broad strokes look pretty similar, especially with regard to the candidates. It seems like something along the lines of when Hollywood, bereft of ideas, spins up another entry in some tired franchise in the hope of luring audiences back into the theater, or how AB-InBev went back to the well and tried to run new versions of their "rally 'round the flag" and Clydesdale marketing after alienating its core market. Just go through the motions of what worked before like a bunch of cargo cultists. Of course, this is not Hollywood or Madison Avenue. This is Washington, and the normal rules don't apply. If this year does indeed rhyme with 2008, however, we can look forward to a Walz Administration in 2036. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Been talking about this for a while, but I wanted to get my thoughts out. Trump can cut a lot of the bloat in the executive branch's many cabinet departments, many of which are staffed by loyal leftists who undermined him in his first term.
You'll never find enough loyal GOP people to fill those offices. The solution? Fire them and start consolidating. The State Dpt handles all foreign relations. We need a Domestic Affairs Dpt that does that for local matters. One Sec of Domestic Affairs, with a few undersecs with delegated jobs, each with small staffs under them. The Sec of Domestic Affairs, could oversee matters of Interior, Energy, Treasury, HHS. Cut things like Dpt of Education entirely. Fold the responsibilities of the other departments into SDA and fire redundancy staffs. Make the President's Cabinet Efficient Again (if it ever was): State, Defense, Domestic Affairs, and Attorney General. That's it. Just four people who report to the President. One handling foreign relations, one running the pentegon, one handling meat and potatoes matters at home, and one handling justice department. Let them have Under-Secretaries that manage things specific like energy, interior, infrastructure, veterans affairs, the CIA, FBI, etc, depending on the department, but cut the bloat. Cut the bloat. Repost from the art thread. And honestly on topic.
Stunning results from Florida yesterday. Total Turnout - GOP : 1,519,591 - 58% of vote DEM : 1,088,671 - 42% of vote Early Voting - GOP : 963,397 - 53% of vote DEM : 836,492 - 47% of vote Election Day Voting - GOP : 556,194 - 69% of vote DEM : 252,179 - 31% of vote The enthusiasm for Harris/Walz simply isn't visible in actual votes cast. Election day voting by Democrats on the day after Biden's fairwell address was horrible. Also Rasmussen got a Trump +10 in yesterday's polling, which they are calling an outlier. A couple of big differences from 2008. Obama is a lying scumbag but he was at least a somewhat talented politician who could speak fairly well. Harris is also a lying scumbag but she is an idiot who disintegrates into pile of gibberish whenever she goes off script. They couldn't get enough media time with Obama but they are doing their best to keep every microphone in America away from Harris. And nobody gives a crap about historic firsts when they can't afford to feed their family.
Biden is a corrupt dolt but he had decades of DC goodwill backing him. His lies were written off as just good old Joe being good old Joe. Walz is a serial liar and a mean spirited asshole from the political wilderness. He brings nothing to the table. Since the start of the DNC the Harris/Walz ticket has actually lost ground in the polls and betting markets to the point Trump is ahead. Weeks on non-stop media tongue bathing and they are now losing. They may try and recreate 2008 but this clown crew ain't up to the challenge. If Trump is successful at reclaiming the White House he'll face a lot of opposition (again.) I'd like to see the feds shut down until a real, legit budget is passed. I'd also like Trump to use the EO to ram stuff through that congress would dither over. O/T: "Ways Windows is worse than ever, Part 1,871"
My bluetooth headphones are on their way out, and one side is now quieter than the other. Been happening slowly for a couple of months. Still clear, just ... quiet. I figure, "I don't need to replace these yet, I just need to adjust the balance to favor the quiet channel and bring them back into equivalence." Nope. Not anymore. There is still a balance control - both the new Win10 style (L and R volume controls) and the old pre-Win10 style (an L/R slider) - but it doesn't do anything. Move one slider and the other is bound to it and moves the same way by the same amount. No override that I can find. They replaced the balance control with a complicated volume control that does literally nothing. /rant off Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at August 21, 2024 11:32 AM (HnUIn) 163

Speaking of jazz from the last thread...
Lately, I've been listening to Weather Report, Mahavishnu Orchestra along with some Return to Forever and a pinch of Fourth Way, a dash of Miles Davis. In any event, it's surprising how...oh...tame it all sounds. Lots of folks over the last 40 years or so have been stealing bites of their music for their own usually lame-ass use. After all the controversy and yelling and screaming about "Jazz-rock", it turns out to fit very neatly into the annuls of rock and/or jazz. Democrats are going to steal the election again. They are telling you right up front. Pennsylvania has already said not to expect the result for days. Oh, and nothing nefarious- other than they have to see how many votes Trump gets so they know how many fraudulent Democrat ballots they need. Same for Michigan and Arizona. They have let you know exactly what they are going to do and in some cases even how they will do it. They know that votes across the finished line and who is doing the counting is all that matters. Once those ballots are counted, they know it is hard to prove in court they are fraudulent, and the jurists don’t have the courage to reverse them.
They’ve told you this upfront- and why? Because like last time, nobody will do anything about it. Oh sure, there will be some protests, maybe even some violent outbursts. But they will unperson you, steal your freedom, steal your wealth and throw you in prison and nobody will help you. Not those who know it’s tyranny, not the cowards in Congress and certainly not the corrupt courts. It’s hurting us towards and inevitable show down that will come later rather than sooner. THREAD: In addition to his military career & drunk driving arrest, there’s another topic about which @Tim_Walz has been lying for political purposes — the conception of his own children. Since IVF treatments entered the news earlier this year, Walz has been repeatedly claiming he & his wife owe their two children to IVF. But today both CNN & the NYT confirm the Walzes did not in fact use IVF. Here’s Walz a month ago on Chris Hayes’s show: “Today is IVF day. Here’s Walz two weeks ago in Philadelphia talking about IVF: “This gets personal for me and my family” Here’s Walz in Wisconsin two weeks ago again claiming his kids were conceived thanks to IVF: “Some of you may have heard this. [IVF] is personal for my wife and I. When Gwen & I decided to have children, we went through years of fertility treatments. The phone would ring, tenseness in my stomach, & then the agony when you heard the treatments hadn’t worked. So it wasn’t by chance that when we welcomed our first child, our beautiful daughter, we named her Hope.” Here’s Walz recently in Arizona telling the same story, this time while pretending to cry: “I’m not crying you’re crying” And here’s the New York Times today admitting the truth: “Unlike in vitro fertilization, the procedure used by the Walzes does not involve freezing embryos, so it has not been targeted by anti-abortion leaders.” Walz Family Fertility Journey Ran Not Through I.V.F. but Another Common Treatment Unlike in vitro fertilization, the procedure used by the Walzes does not involve freezing embryos, so it has not been targeted by anti-abortion leaders. Obama was the first op. They knew he didn’t have a record and could hide any and all of his background. Sure the evidence was there, but they used the media to create his candidacy. They thought it would work again with Hillary any even tried to cheat the vote to ensure she would win. They miscalculated, but then adjusted after Trump won to ensure it would never happen again. They now have a well oiled vote fraud machine in place. You are going to see a lot of irregularities this election, and when Democrats win again under a very thin veil of credulity, nothing will be done because nobody has the courage to do it.

And why not?
Trying something new could be dangerous. The candidate at the top of the ticket now is far less compelling and likable on the surface than Obama. The backstory of the first black president whose would allow us to move on from racial strife isn't in play. I happened to see Obama speak in person pretty early on, March 2008. He was actually pretty good; he came off as a moderate Democrat at face value. He didn't even really go after Bush too much, he explained why he would be different. Kamala has far more baggage, a horrific track record, and far less appeal to voters who are undecided. I was leery of Obama, of course and would never vote for him but remember thinking, "He sounds like a rational politician and person." Again, Kamala with her word salad and radical background that is far more obvious and obnoxious than that of Obama? Don't get me wrong, I think she has a very good shot at winning. But the media, despite their insane hypocrisy and dishonesty, will have a harder time carrying her over the finish line. Like Sonny Corleone, when negotiating with Solozzo in The Godfather novel, she needs to "...stick to the obvious, much the best course for her." Posted by: RM at August 21, 2024 12:01 PM (WXucK) 344

I was leery of Obama, of course and would never vote for him but remember thinking, "He sounds like a rational politician and person." --------- I have heard such many times, primarily from AWFLs. About every one of the Dem candidates, from Clinton, Edwards, Butterjug, Obama, Harris, etc. It's always, 'I like what she/he says'. Pointing out that what 'He/she says' is calculated to appeal to emotion, rather than rational thought has no effect on the Left/Lib/LIV. If it - like abortion - was "rare", it wouldn't be a campaign issue. It's been pushed into the public square where a significant number of women think it's a viable option for them.
— Who said anything about rare? Tons of couples can’t conceive. IVF is a viable option for them. I went through it for a while. My wife and I tried for about a year, nada. Saw fertility specialists tried different things, still nada. We started looking at IVF and then boom pregnant!! But we were ready to go IVF. This happens a lot more than you think. It’s just not something people like to talk about since it’s not a fun topic. Posted by: Twilled at August 21, 2024 12:09 PM (3rsSh) 385
Men who are interested in marriage and family and who are attracted to virginal women in their prime childbearing years between 18-25 are perverts!!! It is amazing that you get the Althouses of the world to comment on an older man with a 20-something woman and the first thing they throw out is "pedophile". Now are 20 somethings adults able to make their own choices or not? And of course a 20 something guy with an older woman is...not included in their claim of "pedophile" for some reason... The pediatric association stated that breast tissue in females goes through has four distinct periods: 1. at birth 2. puberty 3. at early pregnancy 4. milk production It's when something goes wrong between steps 3 and 4 that cell changes may occur that weaken cells. Abortion occurs between steps 3 and step 4. For that reason alone females should avoid it like the plague. Posted by: Divide by Zero at August 21, 2024 12:09 PM (RKVpM) 391

Attention! Abortion is way downstream. Calll it chastity instead of abstinence. Save yourself for courtship then matrimony then monogamy with the children God gives you and your spouse. Because the ongoing scandals we endure now are the abyss that were described warning about a slippery slope.

Both 2008 and 2024 are based around simplistic bromides too. The only reason Kamala chose to base her campaign around something as stupid as "Joy" is because Obama already used up the trite slogans of "Hope" and "Change".

No, "tons" of women don't struggle to conceive. It's simply not true.
There were only 1M assisted technology babies born from the 80s to 2015 https://tinyurl.com/yyub84k7 Pushing IVF as an alternative to having children when you're supposed to is true, though.
