The Statements of The Day

Statement I

"Body advertising is not allowed in any way whatsoever and that includes the Olympic rings... the athlete did not wear a cover and was therefore disqualified.

"All teams are informed of the advertising policy at a technical meeting prior to competition so it wasn't as if they had not been reminded about the rules." International Paralympic Committee (IPC)

Statement II

“During our ongoing audit to assess ICE’s ability to monitor the location and status of UCs who were released or transferred from the custody of the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), we learned ICE transferred more than 448,000 UCs to HHS from fiscal years 2019 to 2023.” The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG)

In last night's ONT (Please don't comment there) we covered the British woman who went to Turkey for a butt lift and ended up dying on the table. The saga continues. Not only is the dead woman without a butt lift. She's missing some organs.

‘They Kept Pieces of Her Heart’: Woman’s Sister In Shock After She Dies During Butt Lift Surgery and Body Is Returned Missing Organs

The body of a 38-year-old British woman who died during cosmetic surgery in Turkey was reportedly returned to her home, missing parts of some vital organs.

Kaydell Brown died on the operating table at the Clinic Expert in Istanbul on March 26.

She paid 5,400 pounds to travel to Istanbul for a “mummy MOT,” which is an all-in-one operation that involves getting a Brazilian butt lift, a tummy tuck, and a boob job in one day.

A funny thing about the FBI. It seems they can investigate crimes after all. Genius Award Winner.

A man in San Francisco has been charged with breaking into an FBI vehicle and stealing thousands of dollars in government equipment, including flash-bang grenades and a ballistic vest that he later allegedly traded for drugs.

Gregory Acosta Alvarez was charged with theft of government property in a federal court on August 9.

I try not to brag on The ONT other than my comments about The Fabulous. But the following story hit a nerve. I never said any of the following things to our 3 beautiful tax deductions. daughters. I guess that's why they turned out so darn good.

The 1990s were a drastically different era. Kids roamed free, and our moms only knew where we were if we called from our bestie’s landline or the payphone on the corner. Growing up in the '90s also meant that we believed whatever our parents told us because we didn’t have the internet to fact-check, and those Encyclopedia Britannica CD-ROMS only went so far.

Now, '90s kids are adults with instant access to all the information in the world, which means we can find out the truth.

Here are 10 blatant lies parents in the '90s told their kids that most of us believed:

I always told the write-offs girls, "They don't swim in our toilet, you don't piss in their pool."

Perhaps in the prison's AA or NA meetings he will learn the following phrase which still serves me well. Anger is not a luxury I can afford today.

AUBURN, Maine —
A Maine man faces multiple charges after police said he attacked a 15-year-old over a prior drug deal.

Ryan Jolicoeur, 38, of Auburn, was arrested Sunday after the Auburn Police Department's Proactive Community Enforcement Unit obtained and executed a search warrant at his Fifth Street home, according to authorities.

Police said they have been conducting a long-term investigation into alleged drug trafficking at 92 Fifth Street in Auburn. Investigators said they developed information that suggested Jolicoeur was selling large quantities of marijuana out of the home, and that his customer base included local children.

I also told him (a la Calvin's father) the world used to actually be black and white.

Because I cared about my son and wanted him to think about things, even things I told him. Complaining about some of those is stupid. If your kid turned into a scold and nag, then maybe you should have fooled them more.

57 From Wiki:

For some, the lyrics evoked the Christian belief of salvation and had a Christian Rock feeling. (e.g. Waitin' for the train to come home sweet Mary," etc.) Without comprehending the drug reference to the word "toke," a cover version was performed in early 1971 by Gail Farrell and Dick Dale on The Lawrence Welk Show. (Welk was seemingly unaware of the song's drug references or the meaning of the word "toke," and had programmed it after mistakenly concluding that the song was a "modern spiritual.")

83 Eris, many years ago, I had a solid black male kitten that was more than active - he was aggressive. A friend picked him up when the cat was about 8 weeks old and held him near his face. Before I could utter "I wouldn't do that", the cat bit into the fellers nose with all his front teeth. I had to remove the kitten from the man's proboscis!

And what does one toke over the line mean, anyway?

As Wikipudlia says: Mike Brewer gives this account of the origin of the song, "One day we were pretty much stoned and all and Tom says, 'Man, I'm one toke over the line tonight.' I liked the way that sounded and so I wrote a song around it."

IOW, it only means they were stoned when they wrote it.

Posted by: LRob in OK at August 20, 2024 10:09 PM (TSQkU)

Depends on the type of motor and the fuel and oxidizer used. If liquid, the best plan is almost always to let it all burn up. Especially with hypergolic propellants that don't need air to keep burning. If a solid motor, use the same plan. Solid rocket propellant contains both fuel and oxidizer so it's near-impossible to extinguish. The best overall plan is to let the mess burn itself out and the next next day begin salvaging what you can of the pad structure and systems.

On the flight back to the US from London, many, many of the passengers had flown over to catch one of the Taylor Swift concerts there. Apparently, ticket prices in the states can be in the thousands of $$ but are much cheaper in Europe. The concert goers were not teenagers/young adults as you might imagine. Rather, they were middle aged women (with one noticeable standout - soyboy/light loafter wearing 'man') all wearing the same Tay Tay sweatshirt.

One thing about Swift's handlers - they certainly understand, and cater to, an imbecilic, spendthrift demographic.

166 AOP, my son bought the Suburban. It's pretty sweet. It wasn't 4wd but that wasn't one of his priorities. Paint was flaking in one spot, but easily fixable. This guy loved his Suburban but he said his wife wouldn't drive it because it made her look Mexican. He paused and said that's funny because she is Mexican. He went over everything he had replaced/improved, why and what kind of parts he had used. Several general disparaging comments about Chinese parts. You could tell the effort he had put into it. The ride was sweet and tight. I mentioned what you had said. He called it their soccer mom steering. He'd taken care of it. AOShq even came up and he said he would have to check us out. Biden would have been that "most qualified" but at times his criminal enterprise kept getting in the way - that, or he would go off script and give away bunker locations, plans that were supposed to be performed in secret, or let slip "We have put together, I think, the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization."

340 I got my 1965 vintage Toro Flymo running today. I had overhauled the carburetor with a kit from Chy-Nah, and bead-blasted and painted all the exterior tinware. Put it together today, and tried to start it. Nope! And fuel was dripping out of the carb. Took carb off, removed diaphragm cover and diaphragm, and by golly! the needle valve that diaphragm acts on was bad. The brass seat for the new valve was drilled waay oversize, and the needle would not seal in it. Fortunately, I had kept the old needle and seat, and simply substituted them in. This time it ran, but would only idle, and boy howdy, did it ever throw up a dust cloud!

Take fuel tank off again. Oh, look! No spring between throttle lever and carb butterfly. Found a spring. And seeing as it was lacking an air filter, I made one. Got it all back together, and it runs like a pup. Cuts the grass real short, and even, too. Easy to maneuver it, too.

Heh. The air filter base on the little Tecumseh engine looks exactly like the lid of a zillion screw-top pickle jars. And it is threaded. I could not find, anywhere here, a metal of plastic jar with the matching thread. So I took the metal cover off an old aerosol pant can, which just barely nested into the opening of the threaded plate, and soldered it in there, using acid-core solder. Cut a hole in the flat top of the old aerosol lid, leaving a quarter-inch rim, and stuffed in a piece of foam plastic soaked in oil. Just like a K&N filter, it is.

And if I ever run across the right air filter parts, I can melt the solder off in 2 minutes.

353 Ah, the Candiru has been invoked. This awakens happy memories long repressed. During Fitzcarraldo, the production crew and I found much glee in making sure the Port-A-Potty was always tightly locked when Klaus Kinski felt the need to answer the call of nature. Werner, he would plead, Klaus needs to make a tinkle and the john is sealed. Resign yourself, I would tell him - the mighty Amazon flows behind you. Do your obeisance there, undisciplined ragamuffin.

Nein, Werner, he would whine, Klaus fears the anaconda. Stripling, I would respond, the anaconda has standards. Make your pilgrimage quickly, we are losing light. On one such occasion, by the banks of Brazil's mightiest river, the Candiru saw an opportunity, and Kinski was ... no, never mind. Like the Timothy Treadwell recording, there are some matters that you are better off not-knowing. Werner is all about the giving and also the looking out for you.

359 Trump winning would present a unique opportunity that we may never see again in our lifetimes: he can win the presidency without the possibility of another term. He would, in effect, be entering into the office without any concern about reelection. Effectively, he can go ham.

Imagine if he consolidated the cabinet into five key offices: Sec of State, Defense, Domestic Affairs (a consolidation of several offices, while subsequently eliminating several), Treasury, and Attorney General. Fire everyone but a staff of loyal Republicans to man each department.

Imagine also if he proposed constitutional ammendments for congressional term limits and voting integrity.

Bureaucracy needs liposuction. Trump's second win might be our best chance to see it through.

Had to give it up at 40 as one beer made me feel extremely bloated and uncomfortable. I was always a dark beer fan, though. Then I found Guinness on tap, the ultimate in dark 'beer'. So Guinness on tap, Beck's Dark in a bottle.

IMAO, the temps are getting cooler, not warmer. No amount of scare tactics will make me believe otherwise, not especially from people flying their private jets around to these 'global warming is gonna kill us all' conferences. I remember back just in the late '90s, we had one stretch of 3 straight days of over 100, while the days immediately around that heat wave were also high; I had to live in the bedroom as it was the only room I could air-condition. Gotta tell ya, waking up with the temp at 6 a.m. being 84 degrees, going to 105 is not fun. That is hot. The concrete bakes and gives off heat overnight like a turned off oven. Miserable.

So I'm good with cooler temps, just let's not go into another Little Ice Age. Maybe we should be nice to our volcanoes: Sacrifice more virgins, if we can find any.

Yeah, funny thing about that. LOL!

Ron Bacardi 151 is a killer. No cocktail you make with it tastes 'good'; everything is just a conveyance for getting extremely drunk very fast. Even Wild Turkey 101 is a bit much for me. Settle on fortified wine, vintage port (not cheap dammit!). If not vintage, at least tawny. Just no bubbles, which gives me the sadz as I used to love the occasional bottle of Veuve Cliquot, besides that aforementioned Beck's Dark. But that saves my budget now so no real complaints. Weed's never been more legal so I pick my vice based upon budgetary reasons and satisfaction scale. The booze I like ain't cheap. Last time I bought a bottle of Johnny Jameson 18-year-old a few years ago now it was, with tax, around $105; can't imagine what the new Bidenomics price is. I'm not big on drinking alone anyway and I quit going to bars due to the cost decades ago (2003 TBH). Getting old not only sucks for the health issues but just as much for the financial ones as well. Either changes one's lifestyle.

Space Daddy's Raptor engine clock in at about 100,000HP total for the turbopumps.

Note the thrust is much less than the F-1s. Why so much more? It's the first full-flow staged combustion engine to every fly. Read up on that if interested, it's damn impressive.

They'll be using them on the Starship. The booster on that thing will have over twice the thrust of the Saturn V, but will use a total of 33 Raptors, as opposed to 5 F-1s. They may get it close to 3x the Saturn V.

Rocket power is sort of a problematic thing to speak of. One measure is just the rate you're dumping kinetic energy out of the nozzles, and that can be staggering.

Another method is the rate the rocket is transferring kinetic energy to the spacecraft, which will be varying with time.

Anyway, I forget all that, but quoted figures for Saturn V power are around 150 million HP.
