79 I like the technique Lotto uses in the color scheme, skin tones and details. I have no idea what that thing is around Chastity's neck. It looks like a lizard to me. However, I suspect there is a lot of symbolism involved that I don't understand which detracts from my appreciation of the painting. Would I hang it? Nope. But I would enjoy studying it close up for the skill obvious in it.

One discordant note is the lack of expression on Venus' face. Indifference? Stoic? Certainly not concerned about the scourging where Chastity and Cupid have real expressions of anger and fear.

120 The objects that Venus is carrying are interesting. It's hard to see what they are but they look like a crown, books, and a bottle. You can lust over power, knowledge, and drink too. They'll get you as far as lust for sex will. Chasity is about self-control. Because Venus and Cupid are so prominent and these others are just objects, I also wonder if they are symbols of the rewards "promised" by giving into temptation.

It was as stroke of genius to cast Marlo as Rachel's mother in Friends. I mean, Marlo's Ann Marie (in TG) was the prototype for young working career girls in NYC in the Sixties, and Jen Aniston's Rachel was shown doing the same thing.

Also brilliant was casting Ron Leibman as her father. That was the actor to get if you wanted someone who seemed "real," not a Hollywood actor.

186 Trump has another event in PA today, this one in York. He and Vance are appearing together in NC on Wednesday, talking about their economic plans.

Feels like 2004, where the whole election came down to Ohio. In this case, it's all about PA, which is dangerous territory to rely on, considering how much Philly cheats.

And then there's NC, which is getting probably second-most amount of attention from both campaigns.

Kamala can win without PA if she takes NC and holds NV (and Michigan and Wisconsin).

But if Trump holds NC, then Kamala HAS to win either PA or GA.

The map still strongly favors Trump. I just hope he devotes a lot of time to MI and WI, to force Kamala to spend time there too.

209 But on Sept. 16, 1989, Yeltsin just wanted to catch a glimpse of everyday American life. So, during his visit to NASA, he asked to check out a local grocery store.

Paul Yirga answered the phone that day at the Randall’s store (now a Food Town) at El Dorado Boulevard and Highway 3. He was the manager on duty that day.

And a photographer captured images of Yeltsin checking out the produce section and seeming to be excited about by some frozen pudding pops.

But, later in life, Yeltsin admitted the visit made a profound impression on him. It cemented his growing view that the Soviet state-run economic system had left the Russian people far behind Americans, forcing them into a much lower standard of living.

236 Triumph of Chastity is an oil-on-canvas allegorical painting by the Italian Renaissance artist Lorenzo Lotto, created c. 1530, now in the Rospigliosi Pallavicini collection in Rome. It is signed at bottom right "Laurentius Lotus" and shows a female personification of Chastity driving away Cupid and Venus. Wikipedia
Artist: Lorenzo Lotto
Created: 1530
Period: High Renaissance

In keeping with a theme that progressives 'work' through the young?
---
It's certainly more conservative than Lotto's: Venus and Cupid
Lorenzo Lotto Italian
1520s
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 608

In part," In this startling and playful painting, Cupid devilishly urinates on his mother Venus through a laurel wreath—an act that symbolizes fertility. The provocative tone of the picture speaks to the growing popularity of eroticism in European art at the time, owing in part to the rediscovery of ancient texts. Lotto likely took inspiration from ancient Roman poetry that describes Cupid waking Venus so that she may preside over a wedding. "

He was a talented artist but I'd pass hanging the above selections.

Thank you.

Wow. That takes it to another level. My last company was bluntly honest about it, which was kind of refreshing.

"There will be layoffs. They are going to be severe. We are going to try to handle it well and give notice to those of you who will be gone so you can prepare, and we are standing by severance and most of the people being let go will get more than they're entitled to - but you're gone."

It was not sugar-coated at all, which is why I fairly little sympathy for some of my former coworkers who did *nothing* to prepare for it and were shocked - shocked I say - to learn that they're being cut.

286 As opposed to the first big company I ever worked for, who were brutal and cruel in layoffs. They'd just turn off your badge access. You go to the security desk to get in (instead of the turnstiles) and then you're informed - by the security guard - that you've been laid off, handed a box, and told to wait for your former boss to come escort you to collect your things.

Ruthless. And the badging system sucked, and random failures were fairly common. You never knew if this particular trip to the security desk would be your last.

From the 14th to 16th century the theme of the poem was illustrated in numerous works of art and much was added that was not in Petrarch’s text.

The six Triumphs are as follows: The Triumph of Love, the Triumph of Chastity over Love, of Death over Chastity, of Fame over Death, of Time over Fame, of Eternity over Time.
