Yes, it was a small, local event, and I know the 88 isn't in good enough shape to win anything in a show of any size, but it was still pretty cool. Little took a top 3 trophy in the “modern muscle car” category for his 2006 Mustang GT. This Guy Has Sand In His Vagina My son was struggling – then he fell for Trump’s toxic brand of ‘masculinity’. I’m heartbroken We had moved to the Bay Area in 2017, after Trump won the election. Nick was 15 or 16 when he said that he liked Trump. I can understand how Trump appealed to a childish sensibility: he’s this clownish figure who does whatever he wants. I also know that when you come of age, you want to reject your parents’ beliefs. My father was a Reagan Republican who was really old school, values wise. A lot of my political development was a rejection of his values, so I wonder now how much of Nick’s fascination with Maga is a reaction against the way I brought him up. I’ve never been a macho kind of man. To me, our biggest responsibility as humans is to look after each other. Men have been given places of privilege in society, so when people talk about being a man, to me that means: what do you use your privilege for? I worked at a pirate radio station in Houston, and we helped with emergency efforts during Tropical Storm Allison in 2001. For me, manhood is all about using your energy to make life better for the person next to you. This guy has no idea what masculinity is. Probably because he has no experience with it. In God We Trust Keeping the Faith The last half-century of hypersecularism is an oddity in American history. Our first public education law was created by the Massachusetts Bay Colony to ensure children could read the scriptures. Even famed atheist Richard Dawkins declared “a native speaker of English who has never read a word of the King James Bible is verging on the barbarian.” Yet the antireligious panic boils over when even the slightest mention of faith enters the public square. Religion, or at least personal virtue, is as essential to the civil order as the Constitution itself—at least according to those who wrote it. As John Adams wrote in 1798, “our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” A less-quoted line in that letter states, “we have no Government armed with Power capable of contending with human Passions unbridled by morality and Religion.” For the past several decades, America has scrubbed every last indication of spiritual life from the public square. It has been replaced with a weird secular issue du jour based on the latest moral panic. One year it’s #MeToo, the next climate change, then Black Lives Matter, all under a rainbow flag with more stripes added all the time. Since our “elite” culture views faith traditions as unseemly, government tries to maintain order by adding thousands of laws and tens of thousands of regulations. Browsing the headlines shows that doesn’t work—and never has. As Cicero wrote of ancient Rome, “the more laws a society has, the less justice.” A century later, the great Roman historian Tacitus rephrased it as, “the more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws.”We're seeing what an anti-religous society looks like. What we had before was better. The Story Of A Hero — ONT WTF (@OntWtf) August 16, 2024 Musical Interlude In honor of the Gallipoli Campaign. A Chance For Justice Parents of Erin Greenberg, teacher found stabbed 10 times in head, neck, win right to challenge suicide ruling The parents of a Philadelphia teacher found dead in 2011 with 20 stab wounds in an apparent suicide have won the right to challenge the ruling for the chance of changing it to a homicide, according to a report. The family of Ellen Greenberg had fought for more than a decade to overturn the city’s ruling over the death of the teacher — whose body was found riddled with stab wounds, including 10 to the back of the head and neck, in her Philadelphia apartment during a blizzard on Jan. 26, 2011. But last week, Greenberg’s parents, Joshua and Sandee, finally broke ground when the Pennsylvania Supreme Court granted their appeal to hear the case, according to WHP-TV.“Suicide”. Insane. Good thing she didn't shoot herself a dozen times in the head, it'd be open and shut! Sport Rants What's your all time favorite sports rant or quote? Personally, I like Jim McKay, coach of the Tampa Bay Bucks, who when asked what he thought of his team's execution answered “I'm in favor of it”. We have another contend in Cubs manager Lee Elias, you can read his epic and profane rant in its entirety here. Second Look At Nixon? Always in the Arena These fears were not completely unfounded. As the leader of a new majority, Nixon had finally broken the New Deal coalition with his 1972 landslide victory, carrying 49 states and winning more than 60% of the popular vote. In an interview just before the election, Nixon prophesied that he would become known as a great reformer. But unlike his predecessors, whose reforms only expanded government power, Nixon pledged to diffuse federal power throughout the country. “There are no sacred cows,” he said the day after the election, “We will tear up the pea patch.” It was clear what he intended to do. Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society had been a costly failure which had driven the rise of a muscular “public sector” and permanent bureaucratic class “steeped in the myths of the New Deal” as its most lasting achievements. His presidency had seen a rapid centralization of administration, crushing deficits, and the birth of a new regulatory apparatus that blurred the line between public service and political activism. Under the Great Society, the federal government had assumed responsibility for the health, happiness, and prosperity of every American, requiring a dramatic expansion of its power and authority over the most intimate details of everyday life. Nixon, who saw the writing on the wall as early as 1965, years before his legendary comeback, had vowed to “reorganize, reduce, or abolish” the last citadels of the Great Society.I'm a lot more likely to believe that Nixon was the victim of a shadowy cabal of government conspirators now than I would have been before seeing what Trump has gone through these past few years. Except he didn't. Nixon left all the essentials of the Great Society in place, and even expanded them; he created the EPA and a slew of other regulatory agencies. He even instituted wage and price controls. Granted, he had a Democratic Congress to work with; but if they were holding the whip hand, why go to the trouble of removing him? I don't deny Nixon was hated by the Democrats and the Deep State, but this gives him a bit more credit than he deserves. Posted by: Dr. T at August 15, 2024 10:17 PM (lHPJf) 48

We're seeing what an anti-religous society looks like.
No. Really, we're not. We're seeing what a religion centered on making ourself gods looks like. Progressivism is NOT "anti-religious" but anti-Christian. It will ultimately get around to destroying (or trying to, honestly) destroying all the other religions with "supernatural beings" as deities. But it is NOT a non-religion as they claim. As a matter of fact, all of the "not a religion," "we're 'secular' so don't count as a religion" stuff was all concocted expressly to drive Christianity from the public square, just like the "freedom" they all bleated on about was mostly just so no one could call them out for their hedonism. But, progressivism is absolutely a religion. A totalitarian, colonizing one, just like Islam. That will use any means at its disposal to spread and force others to conform. Parents of Erin Greenberg, teacher found stabbed 10 times in head, neck, win right to challenge suicide ruling
Medical examiner Marlon Osbourne determined the first-grade teacher’s death to be a homicide, but reversed course and amended the ruling to suicide more than a month later. I have had that exact same moment many times with my three daughters over the last 10+ years. I tell them, "Hey, they sampled XYZ band." Finally got my HVAC buddy out to check the heat pump unit at my mother's house. She's not there, she's staying down here with us, so there was no rush. He's been busy. Anyway, we went through 7 low voltages fuses trying to figure out what was blowing the 24V control circuit fuse. Turned out to be an intermittent short on the compressor contactor coil. The thing would pull in, hold for a few seconds, draw normal current, then short out and blow the fuse. It would do this consistently. Fuse blows, deenergizes, short clears, then does it again when it pulls back in. Of all the parts he had in his truck, this was one he didn't have, and he's gonna have to get one tomorrow. Spinning the sender with a cordless drill made the pointer go to 60 MPH, and the odometer advanced. Red wire: +12 volts, black, -12 volts. Green toggles between those two, twice per revolution. Metered the inductive sender in the transmission. 2.2 Meg. I figured: "open circuit, huh? Should be no more than a couple thousand ohms. Took sender apart; one hair-fine gone, vanished. Maybe I have another? Go on search. Find VSS in transfer case from '98 Chevy pickup. Would you believe it was the right thread, b depth to simply screw into the Spicer transmission as-is? So I hooked it up to black and green from the meter head, and triggered it using a step drill in the cordless drill. Bingo! "I'm a lot more likely to believe that Nixon was the victim of a shadowy cabal of government conspirators now than I would have been before seeing what Trump has gone through these past few years."
Thoughts: The Watergate Hotel was supposedly part of a prostitution ring, which was the why Liddy and crew did their wetworks there. If prostitution actually went on, what became of the documents, notes, and "human resources" that were running the ring? If prostitution actually wasn't occurring, then why the raid in the first place? Was a fake dossier created and pushed to have Liddy and crew spy on that office, at a known time and place, so that someone else could happen to find them in the middle of it? Woodward and Bernstein made their history with an informant. Said informant was Mark Felt, whom they tried to cover for over many years. And Mark Felt was a disgruntled employee, passed up on a promotion. But did he have more involvement other than trying to tie things to Nixon as revenge? A man was driving along the motorway when he noticed a chicken running alongside his car. He was amazed to see the chicken keeping up with him, as he was doing 60 mph. He accelerated to 70, and the chicken stayed right next to him. He sped up to 75 mph, but the chicken overtook him. Then the man noticed that the chicken had three legs. So he followed the chicken, speeding all the way, and ended up at a farm. He got out of his car and saw that all the chickens on the farm had three legs. When he spotted the farmer he asked him, "Where did you get these chickens?" The farmer replied "Well, everybody likes chicken legs, so I bred a three-legged bird. I'm going to be a millionaire." ...So I put the GM sender into the Spicer transmission, and hooked it up to the pair of wires running forward to the fuse panel, and used clip leads to connect them to the black and green wires from the meter head. Went for a spin. Speedo was reading 1-2 MPH in reverse, already. Got on the road, and the speedo worked fine, except the calibration is waay off. I was going about 25-30 MPH, by SOP measure, and the speedo indicated 40 to 50. But it was nice and steady, so evidently there is enough signal. I did an out-and-back to the next grid road, a total distance of 3.5 miles, maybe 3.6 if you count turning around, and maneuvering in the yard. Odometer indicated 6.2 miles. Did the math. Speedo head is calibrated (stamped right on it) for 1000 pulses per mile, I figure the sender is making 1770 pulses per mile. Maximum calibration for the head is 1500 pulses per mile, so it looks like I need a X2 frequency divider.

Tucker Carlson's interview of Geoff Shepherd, one of Nixon's defense attorneys when Geoff was a young man, is hair-raising and stunning. (See it on Rumble.com).
Shepherd has spent years digging through the archives and primary source materials to piece together the jigsaw puzzle of the Nixon coup-- because that's what it was. One shocking revelation (of many) was that Gordon Liddy got the plans for the break-in from the CIA. Another: Bob Woodward was inserted into the Washington Post as a top reporter -- when his only experience was as a Naval intelligence officer. And Mark "Deep Throat" Felt, Asst. Dir. of the FBI, fed the "disclosures" straight to Woodward. There's a LOT more, but go watch the whole thing. Oh, and the "Smoking Gun" that was the pretext for the GOPe of the day to go to Nixon to tell him he'd lost the support of the GOP? what Shepherd says about that will floor you. Now it's time for a Ford,49 thru 51 for a driving toy. Something smaller and easier to maintenance. I'm getting a bit long in the tooth for a high maintenance truck and have no room in my garage to work on one. Hence a small coupe or sedan. Always had a soft spot for the Fords of those years.

You don't have to wait for other news outlets to declare a political figure as a communist.
They are all too happy to do that themselves. How did communism become suddenly popular? When I was a young man it was the scourge of humanity. It still is, as far as I am concerned... Posted by: gourmand du jour at August 16, 2024 01:12 AM (MeG8a) 323

Don't believe the polls.
Posted by: Shenanigans at August 16, 2024 12:52 AM (wGun1) I'm not a poll guy, either. I know they can average some wacky polls to get some crazy numbers. But Rasmussin is an older one, not saying the bestest or anything. But, for what it's worth, as of 8/8, they've got Trump up 49-44, with RFK @ 3. Cum-allah did get a bounce, a small one that has quickly faded. That's the reason they want to keep her away from the press. Plus, they're banking on a Trump incarceration after the debate on ABC. (The fact that I'm even saying that shows just how crazy the times we are living in are. Historically unprecedented.) We shall see. I'm sure the steal will be huge. The question is can it be beaten? And where will Trump be on election night? And if the steal is huge once again, enough to give Cum-allah the win? I keep saying but it, these are craziest times that could ever be, don't turn on the lights 'cause I don't wanna see. Nothing like 1965-68 and all that mayhem. We're in a world-wide anti-white commie coup. Crazy times. Posted by: RickZ at August 16, 2024 01:28 AM (gKDq2) 349

I would totally go for the chili oil too, but I don't think that Robert will be ready for that fresh out of having a camera shoved up his ass. How are you doing?? Like you, I am an 'Ette, but so not a chick. Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz at August 16, 2024 02:25 AM (Sgq8y) 406

Posted by: Weirddave You made me go back and zoom in. That's a Moron shirt if ever there was. I only read the "Nixon" part the first time, and figured it was just a vintage shirt to go with the vintage car. Posted by: mikeski at August 16, 2024 02:38 AM (DgGvY) 417
Debby, I use a potsticker recipe I found on the intertubes. Pretty basic. The fewer ingredients, the better IMO.
Also, I found a really good dipping sauce recipe, but created a shortcut to the same taste by substituting Yoshida's Original sweet teriyaki for several --but not ALL-- of the other ingredients. Posted by: JQ at August 16, 2024 02:39 AM (njWTi) 418

Morning, all you insomaniacals! Oldsmobiles were a wonderful value from GM, the mid-range cars of their five product lines. More luxury and performance than your average Chevy and Pontiac, not as much as Buick and Cadillac, but at a lower price than those two marques. I had two Cutlass Supreme coupes from '91 to '98, one silver, one gold, and loved them both.

Got to decide in the next few minutes if I will go work out. The heat and humidity are down just the tiniest bit. Which means it's still inhumanly foul out there.
