In Kalifornia, he's simply playing the crazy Pitt acting persona, which he has played in other films, in Snatch he actually creates a compelling and unique character and actually manages to disappear into a role, which is hard to do being Brad Pitt and all.

Weird. I just hung this very picture by Waterhouse on my classroom wall a day or so ago. School starts next week.
I teach at a tiny Christian classical school. This year we're covering, "Till We Have Faces," by C. S. Lewis. It's a retelling of Psyche and Cupid from "The Golden Asse," by Apuleius, also known as "The Metamorphoses."
Our central theme is: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2 ESV) The central idea is metamorphoō, and students will be invited to think about being conformed to external forces, outside in; versus being transformed from the inside out.
Along with reading Apuleius, we'll be studying Ovid's "Metamorphoses," which includes "Pyramus and Thisbe," as well as a thousand other interesting stories. Creation myths, Pygmalion, Theseus and the Minotaur, Narcissus and Echo, Pan and Syrinx. So many ideas for stories, and music, and art. Pre-Raphaelites *loved* this stuff.
The only problem I had was finding pictures or sculptures that aren't all naked people, because teenagers are stupid.

For whatever reason, some still view everything by coverage or lack thereof from the dying network news and mainstream media. The total network news audience is down to about 33 million, newspapers are in free fall with circulation numbers including the NYT and WaPo and even the WSJ, and newsmagazines are largely a thing of the past.
The new media landscape is a far more fragmented and idiosyncratic world that governments are having increasingly problems with trying to stamp out unapproved news and inconvenient facts.

BTW, Delphi publishes a lot of complete collections of artists and writers. Very complete with lots of background info on the authors and their works. And very few typos or formatting problems which you can't rely on with many of the ebook versions out there. I have a bunch of them on Kindle. Worth checking out for affordable complete collections.

Nah, man. Trump is the worst. He's only beaten a field of 16 established political candidates, then one of the most well-fueled political dynasties this country has ever seen.
He compounded that by performing so poorly, six states had to stop counting and spend a week manufacturing ballots to destroy him (again, against a political dynasty).
He topped that off by doing so poorly, the opposition party's rightful nominee (and current president) was pushed off of his party's ticket. Because Trump is terrible.

To be fair, many of those candidates were mediocre...the the dynasty was represented by "Please Clap" Jeb!. They weren't bringing their best.
He compounded that by performing so poorly, six states had to stop counting and spend a week manufacturing ballots to destroy him (again, against a political dynasty).
I find it pretty amazing that he increased his vote total in 2020 by around 18% over 2016...and still lost. Something never-before achieved in US Presidential election history.

1. Racial preferences are very unpopular. They split the Democratic coalition and unite the GOP coalition.
2. Ads can emphasize how it is unfair that the color of your skin matters more than your ability. This is not a "racist" message, obviously, even though Democrats will say it is.
3. College-educated voters think a lot about college, where they went to college, and where their kids will go to college. So racial preferences in college admissions are a bigger issue with the sort of soft R/lean R voters who dislike Trump.
Racial preferences/affirmative action isn't a "main issue" for most voters like the economy or immigration, but it's an issue where people often feel passionate about their opposition. It goes to their identity, which can sway votes. I think it would be a good idea to make it the theme of maybe 5-10% of GOP ads, or something.

For the most part, the very people watching TV ads from traditional sources are the ones that are least persuadable by age. Simply put, a life long Donk voter is not going to suddenly vote for Trump because of an ad. An older indy voter or GOP voter of a similar age are not likely to be moved much by ads either. GOP is more unified than the Dems in voting for Trump and the indy voter will either continue not to vote or they will vote according to their leanings based on past races.
Older people are more set in their political ways than younger people and Trump is performing quite well compared to GOP of old in that segment. Partially because he is going where those younger voters are likely to watch.
So, you spend your precious hard money cash going after voters that have been written off by the GOP but are still open enough in their partisan affiliations and leanings that they can be swayed by being asked for their vote.

Someone ignorant enough not to know that 90 percent of all spending for K-12 education comes from the state and local governments simply does not understand that the Federal DoE is mainly a patronage operation for Dems in shoveling money to their constituents--teacher unions, consultants, etc. Any state government that truly wanted to restore policy freedom can simply refuse to accept federal dollars and the strings it puts on governments.
The fact that Red States do not do that is because uniparty exists. Same for accepting the poison chalice of Obamacare Medicaid expansion. So you get the Feds calling the shots on the cheap in those areas.

The Dems object because it's their core constituency.
The Repubs object for the same reason, but lie about it and claim it's about "fairness." "Why should we pay but get nothing back? If we do this, we're just subsidizing other states!" Yeah, and? It's a tribute system. Send the tribute to the imperial capital, but otherwise tell them to pound sand.

But it was seriously discussed - and somewhere, a red state legislature will take the jump because it was seriously discussed. The 10th Amendment is seeing a resurgence because the feds suck so badly. The progressives didn't get to where they are in a single legislative season.

Yes. FEC records. There is a bit of delay in actual posting of the data depending on the reporting cycle. Caveat, I think we are in the monthly phase but not sure as it is been awhile since I actually engaged much with this data. The FEC donation reporting cycles start with quarterly, then move into shorter and shorter reporting periods, as we go through the primaries to the general election.

Legislation takes a massive commitment in our system and unified control of government. The Dems ram through things with one vote majorities. The GOP kills those bills like McCain does--either arguing muh principles or some other bullshit to vote against helpful legislation. Perfection to ideological principles never exists in reality and the GOP as a party for whatever reason refuses to exercise raw political power to help their own constituents anymore.
Either you have turncoats like EyePatch McCain or Ladybugs Lindsey or you have the bullshit muh principles brigade that never accomplish anything other than purty speeches.
That is why the GOP loses--it refuses to play hardball politics because for some that would interfere with grifting possibilities. For others, it interferes with whatever the Dems have cooked up whether it is fraud, turning kids into eunuchs, etc

Reminds me of something that happened in recent years in my city.
School system came into $120k (I think) out of the government. Some sort of "Brother's Keeper" thing that was supposed to help our black population somehow.
It seemed like half our black pop was showing up at school board meetings, angry about how it was being spent. It apparently sounded like all the money in the World to them, and they expected to personally see some sort of tangible benefit.
A large chunk of it went to some educational consultant from another town, who undoubtedly wrote a few pages of boilerplate, accomplishing absolutely nothing. Welfare for the Education establishment.

Yeah, I wish I had this class, too! I'm so fortunate to teach here, because I'm not forced to keep my personality and faith in a box, like my teacher-friends who work in public schools complain about. The kids will perform Midsummer Night's Dream at our yearly Shakespeare Festival, so they'll recognize the play-within-the-play from this year's material.
And *wave* at Helena Handbasket! I am always around, lurking in the background, haunting everyone's more boring nightmares, the ones involving endless paperwork.
