The Gateway Arch is a neat place. Even if you don't want to go up in the top (it's kind of a cramped elevator, I didn't mind it but a lot of people do), there's a great museum down in the base, showing the history of America's westward expansion. And you get a great view of the Mississippi River.

They will put Kamala in the Oval Office BAMN. They already tried to shoot Trump. They'll try again. The wine moms will gush over Kamala. "She's BLACK and A WOMAN!" They can put her in, but the cheat will be epic anyway. I am in despair. FOck you, Barack Obama, for killing this country. F0ck you, every asshole who voted for Obama. Don't care if she's your wife. "Virtue Signaling" was the cancer that killed us. ("I get to vote for a BLACK MAN!!") Great while it lasted. The US achieved some great things. Amongst my bucket list checkmarks is the St. Louis arch, about 1973. We did take the little gondola elevator deals to the top. Designed by famous Erno Saarinan (or some asshole near enough to that) it has stainless steel panels to resist corrosion. I think it slightly sways in the wind perceptibly when at the very top viewing area. Seems to me we visited the Sears tower the same time frame.

I used to know a guy that lost a leg in an car accident as a child. As an adult, he enjoyed going to haunted house attractions during Halloween season. I have a few bones to pick with top spots selected for various states. Illinois I would select the Museum of Natural History or the Museum of Science and Industry. If it is baseball season, Wrigley Field. Indiana Way too many zoos and aquariums selected, but the whale sharks at the Georgia Aquarium have put it on my bucket list. Bush Gardens Williamsburg over Arlington National Cemetery for Virginia is not a good choice. Not a bad overall list, I just have differing preferences.

It was crazy, so much time climbing getting there and so little time spent there. The line just kept moving. Better value are the Empire State Building and the {wipes tear} old World Trade Center. Loved the view from the catwalk that was on on top of the Tower. The nicest thing about the Statue of Liberty was the short ferry ride from The Battery. The last meme? Yeah, pretty much. My parents finally stopped playing their records in the mid-90s, but my uncle had this converter for records to tape and then he got one for CDs. I only know this because he took my grandparents' favorite records and converted them into something more "lasting." I had no idea my grandpa liked bluegrass so much, the radio never played when we were there. I always assumed it was because my dad and his siblings couldn't agree on anything and therefore a fight over the radio would be inevitable.

Haven't seen most of the top attractions on that list, now that I look at it.
Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone are well worth it, of course. Also agreed on Hot Springs, Great Smoky Mountains, and Jackson Square if you expand it to include the French Quarter in general. Walt Disney World was very enjoyable, but there's so much in Florida I don't know that I'd call it "top". As for Central Park: eh, it's fine, but there's other major city parks that are as good or better. No idea on the rest. Posted by: Dr. T at August 09, 2024 10:35 PM (lHPJf) 106

Anyway during the day we rented one of those peddle boats on a nearby lake and soon after we got in the peddle system broke down, .The vendor guy towed us back in and we got another. Later that night we went to a restaurant next to the lake and we are having dinner outside and noticed some kids had taken a couple of peddle boats from the closed vendor . About 15 minutes later we hear one of the kids yelling from the middle of the lake that his boat had broken and he couldn't move. My father had a hardy laugh. God, give me grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, Courage to change the things which should be changed, and the Wisdom to distinguish the one from the other. Living one day at a time, Enjoying one moment at a time, Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace, Taking, as Jesus did, This sinful world as it is, Not as I would have it, Trusting that You will make all things right If I surrender to Your will, So that I may be reasonably happy in this life, And supremely happy with You forever in the next. It was fascinating to see her from the inside, the folds of her robe etc, and getting to the upraised arm and seeing that tiny little landing, with the LADDER going up into the dark--I couldn't imagine the women in the 1890s climbing to the torch in a corset, long skirt, hat, and heeled shoes (which may have been a boon on that metal ladder in the dark). Of course, but some people might still think it easier to have a daughter with issues like this than a son. I'm not here to judge, in this case. I don't know all the facts, or any of them, for that matter, other than we are told by yhe IBA that DNA testing was done, and this person has xy chromosomes, and is male. The person could have 100 percent t male genitalia, for all I know. I'm just saying that if I had a baby that was born without any sign of a penis or testes, I would assume it was a girl. I would go so far as to say that I think it would be easier to raise a girl without a vagina than a boy without penis. I have no idea what the situation here is, just that I don't think it's what we've been seeing lately, where Joe decides he's Josephine one day. And I could be absolutely wrong. I need to save my pennies. *sigh* Posted by: JQ at August 10, 2024 01:08 AM (njWTi) This could all be done via the Internet. Log into a Website; it plays a range of sounds of different frequencies. You use your mouse to move sliders on a graphic equalizer until you can just barely hear the sound at each frequency channel. Once done, those sliders define a response curve (could be done for each ear, too). Manufacturer takes curves, spits out a pair of aids with complementary amplification curves. Hi AOP - question for you - or someone who can answer. A couple of nights ago there was discussion of someone who was bounced for discussing something on the gun thread Sunday even after the COB asked them not to. Something specific to do with 'reloading'? I was curious - why was that a sensitive subject? Was it a legal matter? Trade secret? Possibly attract undue attention from TPTB? Powder loads tend to be firearm specific. What works for one may not be safe for another. Yes there are reloading manuals out there, but they are suggestions and you should gradually and carefully "work up" to said recipes. To post such info is generally considered bad form and unsafe. This is why probably why Weasel asked him not to post such details. Someone who reloads SHOULD understand such things. Posted by: The Left is Criminally Insane at August 10, 2024 01:34 AM (elaR+) 471

Re reloading weights and all that. I can see Weasel's position there. There was a fellow around here, good ol' guy of my father's generation. He was in WWII and a demolition/explosives engineer with the Army. Knew that kind of stuff well. He became a machinist and had his own local machine shop. He did well. Guns and all that were one of his passions. Even he fucked up one time with a reload, and would tell the story. I forget but he misread a line in a table, and way overloaded some cartridges. We he fired it, he immediately knew he'd fucked up. And big time. He explained what saved him and prevented it from blowing up his face was this gun, a revolver had a heavier frame that it really needed. I want to say it was .38 vs .357. Something like that that. Anyway, upon inspection it had cracked the cylinder a bit he discovered. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at August 10, 2024 01:36 AM (w6EFb) 474

JQ - iPad.
File this under “eating their own.” Richard Dawkins: My entire facebook account has been deleted, seemingly (no reason given) because I tweeted that genetically male boxers such as Imane Khalif (XY undisputed) should not fight women in Olympics. Of course my opinion is open to civilised argument. But outright censorship? I guess he wandered off the plantation via XX/XY. Posted by: 13times at August 10, 2024 03:26 AM (gzplO) 534
Miley, "$6K two years ago" means 12K now. Right?
I can't pay 6K now... Ugh. It'll just have to wait. Posted by: JQ I paid $5400 a couple of months ago so I don't think prices have increased that much. Posted by: Tuna at August 10, 2024 03:38 AM (oaGWv) 535

I actually built one of those soda can cannons- it's sooooo much fun! With 120 grains of black cannon powder it will shoot a soda can around 100 yards. Unfortunately mine is not nearly as accurate as the one in the video. Also, if you put in too much powder it destroys the can on it's way out the barrel.
