Tonight's ONT Is Democracy Manifest

Hi folks! Welcome to Thursday's ONT. Gonna be a short one, the AC in my office stopped working today, and it's almost 90 degrees in here. I'm not going to sit here to put together a full size ONT. Sorry.

Melting.jpg

I Think He Was A Genuinely Nice Guy

You never know with celebrities, of course, but I see a lot more stories like this than negative ones.

‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ Star Says Robin Williams Wrote Letter to Principal After She Got Kicked Out of School During Filming

“As Matt well remembers, we had tutoring, three hours of schoolwork on set every day,” the actress continued. “We were a couple of months into filming, and my school in Canada sent a note saying, ‘This isn’t working for us anymore, don’t come back.’ Yeah, 9th grade. I was devastated. It was just so heartbreaking, because I had this life that was very unusual and that was the one normal thing.”
However, Jakub said once Williams, who died in 2014, saw how it impacted her, he took matters into his own hands.

“It was a really difficult thing,” she remembered. “The amazing thing was Robin saw that I was upset — he asked me what was going on. He wrote a letter to my principal saying that he wanted them to rethink this decision and that I was just trying to pursue my education and career at the same time, and could they please support me in this.”

Though she greatly appreciated Williams’ efforts, they were ultimately unsuccessful. “The principal got the letter, framed the letter, put it up in the office, and didn’t ask me to come back,” Jakub added. “Amazing.”

Stolen Valor

Tim Walz launched political career on false claim as combat veteran in the War on Terror

Thanks to some quality reporting, we know that the Minnesota governor — who yesterday officially joined the Kamala Harris campaign for President as its VP on the ticket — quit the military in 2005, after learning that his battalion was about to be sent to Iraq. Walz spent his entire career in the Army National Guard learning to lead people into battle, with training and his lone six month overseas deployment to Italy provided at U.S. taxpayer expense. He then retired when he learned he was going to be leading people into battle in Iraq, leaving Minnesota’s 125th Field Artillery Regiment high and dry for a career in politics.

But that’s not what Tim Walz told the public when he decided to run for public office upon abruptly leaving the military.

Just months after leaving his battalion to go to Iraq without him, he announced a run for Congress, and the dissembling about his serivce record began immediately.

Instead of being honest about his early departure from the military, Walz told the media a much more heroic tale, one that was entirely ficticious.

The guy's a commie scumbag. Sadly, I doubt this will hurt him with anyone who would have voted for him anyway

Kinky Politics

No, JD Vance didn’t fuck a couch. But saying he did is free speech. Here’s why

It’s up to Americans to weigh evidence for themselves and make up their own minds. If false claims weren’t protected by free speech, we’d have to trust the government to decide the truth for us. That’s exactly why the First Amendment gives wide latitude even to lies, misinformation, and disinformation. Check out our handy explainer on misinformation and disinformation to learn more.

If you think it's bad for government bureaucrats to decide whether claims in the rough and tumble of political debate are true (and worthy of protection) or false (and worthy of punishment), just wait until you add in comedy.

Free speech is an absolute. Even if it is a lie.

It's A Girl Drug!

What is 'tusi', 'pink cocaine'?

Officials say the drug is low in price, but it's even higher in risk since so much is unknown about the drug.

"'Pink cocaine' is a misnomer. The combination of drugs being used is not just cocaine, but rather a mix of MDMA, ketamine, even opioids such as fentanyl. So it's really a mix, and each one of them carries a significant amount of its own risk," Dr. Yalda Safai , a psychiatrist who focuses on mental health, told FOX 5 NY.

Personally, I don't do cocaine. I just like the way it smells.

Evil

The Most Evil Man In Evangelicalism, And Those Who Platformed Him

“Of all the passions, the passion for the Inner Ring is most skillful in making a man who is not yet a very bad man do very bad things.”  -CS Lewis
Like all demons, he was obsessed with children. Shedding their blood was preferable. Failing that, he could always cut them up, scalp them, sexualize them, incite them to a sexual frenzy, or castrate them. The possibilities were endless, and exciting. Demonic appetite never ceases, and Mephistopheles was hungry.

To satisfy his lust, he would need a megalomaniac with a Promethean drive; someone appointed in high places and thus able to devour countless children. Who would be his willing vessel? Who would open themselves to such possession? Another Mengele, Ishii, or Zedong would be hard to find. To satiate this kind of bloodlust, his vessel would have to be soulless, unfeeling, very scientific, and more than anything, in love with power. But most importantly, they must claim to be a Christian.

Tonight's ONT has been brought to you in memory of Jack Karlson, one of the Internet's earliest memes, who is now enjoying a succulent Chinese meal in the hereafter:

Nope. I think it would be "heartless" if the girl was incapacitated in the hospital or something. She wasn't. She chose to go to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of appearing in a dumb movie with some fruit.

That was incompatible with her commitment to meet attendance benchmarks at her school. She wanted special treatment because her costar was famous. She didn't get it.

48 I've got a "portable" two hose AC for my office since the apartment complex won't let me stick a window mounted AC on the side facing the street. It cools well enough, but the geniuses decided to place the the temperature probe for the thermostat several inches directly above the exhaust port. Plus, when it's shutting down via thermostat, it'll disengage the compressor and just pump humid air from the outside into the room for about 30 seconds. I generally just run it manually via remote when I'm at my desk.

I probably should've taken it back to Costco and looked for something else, but they probably all suck. I also have U-shaped ACs for other rooms which are quiet and effective but they will develop mold on their squirrel cage fans and are a pain in the ass to clean.

Free speech doesn't require that the speech be consequence-free. Like being sued for slander. Or getting punched in the face when you drop some "fighting words" on a n---a.

Your society has crossed a line when you acrively encourage women to kill their children in utero...

Innocent blood cries out, and between abortions and the "trans" mutilations, we have shed oceans of it; God have mercy.

I have a more then a little experience writing computer code. If you are a pollster you would want to hire someone like me. I would first gather the information to know everything there is to know about the person being polled, name, age, gender, party affiliation, location... and especially polling history. With enough data I could create the result you want in mere minutes, especially over time. A data base of 5,000 names, properly researched? I could make serious bank on delivering what the mark wanted.

You wanna show a Kamala surge? I know who to call out of those 5,000 names.

Many ruptured water pipes and water heaters. Photos surfaced of the insides of some homes. Huge, grand staircases caked in ice. (Water heaters and pipes typically in the attic.) Ice inches thick in the lower levels. Massive damages.

I should keep those two (hot and cold) valves off, opening them only when washing clothes. I am lazy. Despite being warned. Many years ago I came home from work and saw water streaming out under the garage door. A washing machine hose had burst. Mercifully the water stream mostly went into the empty garage area. 159 On the 'Good News' front - received word today that a couple sponsored by one of our local charities secured final approval to adopt a lovely little baby girl. This is how messed up some things are: the natural mother has had 17 (yes, truly) other children all now either wards of the state or in various CPS programs. Mother is homeless, to put it mildly, and lives in the woods - I've met her to take her to meet the adopting couple. She is damn near feral, almost non verbal, and simply a disaster.

Anyway, a very happy ending. The child seems to be ailment free without any drug related syndromes. And adoptive parents are over the moon. The State is happy and, as near as I can determine, the natural mother is too.

I thought in my 29 years I had seen it all. Nope. Nope. Nope.

Well for one thing it explains how the wave both propagates and transfers energy. If the two waves are in phase then when both of them reach 0 at the same time and space, there is no energy in the wave, and no reason for another wave to propagate.

However if they have a 90 degree phase relationship the trig identity Sine^2 + Cos^2 = 1 means that the energy in the wave remains constant alternating between the electric and magnetic fields.

Little Bobby, I told him (this he maintained was how those in the Kennedy crime family referred to him), you elected (see what Werner did there?) to place a bear cub, a victim of road kill, in your vehicle with the intent of skinning and devouring it in your tony Big Apple pied-à-terre, only to abandon that plan after several hours and drop the cub in Central Park, arranged as if it were killed by illegal cycling.

This abomination I cannot bring to cinema, I informed him. Be gone, Kennebunkport haunter, I said with some fervor, or I shall tell Ranger Smith that you killed Boo-Boo and made off with pick-a-nick baskets so that he may get medieval on your nepot arse. Fearing pepper spray and tasing, he and his brain worm departed into the infernal regions of Massachusetts. The brain worm was at least polite, and sends Christmas Cards each year.

298 Another benefit to 90 degree phase relationship is that it explains how an electromagnetic wave transfers momentum.

Imagine an electron floating in free space. The electric part of an incoming EM wave causes the electron to accelerate up. As the electron starts moving it develops a magnetic field around it. The 90 degree delayed magnetic field of the wave repels the magnetic field of the electron - transferring momentum to it in the direction of the incoming wave.

302 Weird Dave, I don't tip the hat enough to the COB effort, but am compelled to do so WRT your EVIL submission tonight. Francis Collins is in a pneumatic tube to hell, and he's taking a lot of "Big Eva" pastors with him.

here’s a reason why Rick Warren is invited to Davos by the World Economic Forum every year but Pastor Jack Hibbs is not. There’s a reason why Russell Moore is CNN’s and MSNBC’s “phone a Christian” thinker and Voddie Baucham is not. There’s a reason why David French has a weekly op-ed in the New York Times and Eric Metaxas does not. There’s a reason why the New York Times would ask Tim Keller to submit articles, but not ask Pastor Douglas Wilson. Because the former are hirelings and the latter can’t be bought.

These last few years have been...enlightening...

313 But some say an electron is a wave also ...... hmm.

If you look at the wave/particle duality, you soon realize that which way you look at the electron or photon determines whether you see wave or particle action.

On the macro scale there is a huge difference which end of a gun you are seeing.

Imagine you are standing by the side of the road and a car drives by. Move into the road and reality changes greatly.

In other words the perspective of the observer changes reality. From the perspective of the electron emitter the electron behaves like a particle, at the receiving end perspective wave properties start to show up.

314 How could Trump fight? What we have right now is a media, owned by the Bond Villains, that is single mindedly bent on saying over and over that Trump is struggling while Harris is becoming wildly popular. Ok, how would such a thing happen? Harris has never been popular. She was consistently even less popular by a little bit than Biden. She has done nothing and has said nothing. Nothing good has happened, much less anything good that could be attributed to her in any way. There is no logical reason to think her popularity would go up at all. Yet the media continues.

Well-said, and gladly received. Following the Muse is a fraught, even perilous life-journey, and has its attendant costs, including the occasional parking fee. Yet we soldier one, not unlike Harpo Marx taunting a comely Lucille Ball while refusing to allow her reflection to appear, Then it is revealed that the mirror is not there. Consternation! Shall Lucy have some 'splaining to do? What of the Mertzes and their difficult odyssey? Where lurks Ricky?

If Werner is being honest, he must disclose that François Truffaut once confessed that Cahiers du Cinéma and the whole auteur business was simply a way for him to bang Claudia Cardinale. And what of Elke Sommer, I demanded of him. He smirked, in a manner not unlike a weasel. But the French are a perverse race.
