I don't see Meta surviving much longer as a company. Every avenue they try to get something going now that their social media dominance is old news seems to be failing. VR is a bust. They're getting their lunches eaten with a side of wedgie in the AI space. All they're clinging to at this point is name recognition on Wall Street, corporate welfare, and general financial chicanery.

A software issue means that it can't safely undock.
The story I saw was that Boeing had not written the software for landing at the time the thing launched. Which is stunning if true. They need to just get that piece of junk off ISS and send up a Crew Dragon post haste. I suspect the only reason they haven’t is it would piss off the Dem base because Elon is Space Hitler. Posted by: Ian S. at August 07, 2024 05:22 AM (LqI47) 53
Boeing deleted the programming that would allow the craft to return to earth by itself, and I would guess to allow it to be remotely piloted. It has to have crew aboard or it does a Major Tom. Still unsafe for the astronauts because of leaks and electrical issues, so if they undock it, with no control, Boeing loses their very expensive tin can and it becomes the wayward shopping cart in the parking lot, possibly bumbling right back into the station.

It would be nice to see Google and Apple cut down. They both commit breaches in a citizens' right to privacy. I can have a conversation in my house on my iphone with a friend and the very next day there is advertisements on both of our phones on varies subjects we talked about. This happens more times than not anymore. This tech companies want every device and everyone's lives controlled by them. G and A have reached their apex and I hope the sword that cut them off at the knees is swift and painful.

Yesterday's Trash Day Eve celebrations were disrupted by a monsoon storm that came through and blew all the trash cans over and down the block. The children in the neighborhood didn't seem to care very much but us retired people were distraught.

How weird is Mrs Walz?
Opening windows so you could really whiff the smell of small kulak businesses being burned to the ground and lives destroyed by your Sturmabteilung (SA toughs) and then reveling in it during an interview is right up there on the weird scale. Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. It's actually cool here at Stately Poppins Manor for the first time in about a fortnight.
Only four dictation files to start the day with, so I am hoping that augurs well for the day ahead. I would really like an easy shift. Anyway, time for tea and work, so will see you on the Morning Report. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing (aka Eloquent Depression) at August 07, 2024 06:18 AM (Q0kLU) 112

Boeing is convinced Starliner is safe so I propose NASA send the Boeing CEO up to fly it back. I think they can still dock on the Soyuz side, so, as a bonus, the guy gets to fly in a Russian rocket.

I'm not sure what motivation Mrs. Emhoff had for picking Walz - or, most likely, having him picked for her - except perhaps availability. He's a hard leftist, a pasty white male, comes from a state that's going D anyway and has a dodgy past. I suppose everyone else wanted to steer clear of association with the whole Biden/Emhoff trainwreck. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at August 07, 2024 06:24 AM (1Nxff) 118

Walz at the very beginning of his acceptance, speech took a moment to praise Shapiro by saying that's a guy you would want to go to a Springsteen concert with in New Jersey.
