8 Evening and morning to all the AoSHQ satellites across the system! (I'm reading Clarke's Imperial Earth from '76, in which he accurately envisions cell phones and the phenomena of people out of nowhere trying to sell you things you've inquired about, and of sex clubs tailored to your interests. So naturally I'm thinking about Titan, the hero's home world.)

Up early, I am, but with about enough sleep; coffee; no desire for a pipe to wake up with -- it's just not pipe smoking weather. What's up with you?

16 I've got a new seersucker robe from Vermont Country Store. Feels odd; the old one, from them also, was well broken in, with a torn pocket and a rip in one side. This one feels too crisp and fresh. I guess I'll get used to it in time.

Perhaps I'll have a half-slice of toast with peanut butter. That's the ticket.

I am embarassed and ashamed. Just the fact that our country has a military leaves me embarrassed and ashamed. We should have ceded HI to Japan and apologized to them for having to bomb Pearl Harbor. When Schuylkill Township puts out sawhorses near where I live I know we're in for flooding. One end of Creek Road near the Schuylkill Township building goes under a couple feet of water. During Ida the bridge on the other end of the road was almost completely under water and sustained damage along with the road. Prediction so far is for possible five inches of rain. So far. We'll see. When it's in the eight to ten inches of rain in a few hours is when big problems start.

81 "VIA, you mentioned watching carbs. Any thoughts on that?"

Sure...

While carbs are an essential part of our diet, I was consuming a huge amount of them a daily basis without realizing it. When my morning pot of coffee gives me 200 grams of combined sugars and carbs, before the day begins....well, it does contribute to the waistline. As well as blood pressure.

Tomorrow is one month of a single cup of black coffee a day. a conscious effort to drop carbs lower, and walking, and now even running 3.0-3.5 miles daily.

So I have

1. Gone from 221 to 205 pounds.
2. Walking pace has gone from 20:00 minute mile to a consistent sub 17:00 mile.
3. Resting heart rate has dropped almost 11 BPM
4.Blood pressure now tracks in the 120's/70's.

And I contribute it to reducing carbs, sugars and caffeine, and the introduction of the morning walk/run.

91 You would think that with the massive hits that Wall Street seems to be taking, that the major news organizations would do more than casual mention of it, before moving on to the next story.

But....they seem to be rather incurious about it.

92 The way to secure the border is to .....

a) create a legitimate way for people and firms to get the labor that the economy really needs in legitimate, legal ways

b) make it so that no one is able to cross the border except at checkpoints where identity can be verified and goods inspected so that the citizens within the borders can be protected from harm.

An idea that is so crazy...that it just might work

96 Prayer request/

Our church treasurer ( who has a sweet sweet spirit and works hard in her volunteer capacity as treasurer ) has a very kind husband ( he doesn't come to church except at Christmas but is a very practical man who has fixed all kinds of things over there and we all love him because he's just the nicest down to earth guy) and he has some brutal cough. If you could pray for his healing I'd be grateful. Thanks so much.

Of course.

Prayers being sent.

We had a derecho storm - I think it was year 2020 - that wasn't so much rain as high winds that took down trees everywhere. Four days without power, neighbors walking up the street with gas cans in each hand. No way to drive in any direction.

Now I have a portable solar panel, about 4 feet by 8 feet that folds up nicely and has handles. It weighs about 20 pounds. 2K storage battery that weighs 60 pounds I put on a little wagon to move around. Enough power for the basics like coffee, toast, microwave, battery/phone charging, etc.

101 An updated weather forecast now says rain, heavy at times from Friday through Sunday thus I expect some flooding. Least I get a break from mowing so there's that.

I ruined the joke. I meant NOT the Greek Goddess. I wouldn't want a Greek Goddess in bed with my husband and me. We did have a rather large dog, Becket, who would sometimes jump on the bed. I don't mind the cat on there but Becket was too big.

107 81 "VIA, you mentioned watching carbs.

113 AI is going to take over animation (at least in terms of character rigging, walk cycles, etc.) in the next 10 years. Given a pretty small sample, voice already can be generated to a fair degree. Heck, modders are already doing AI voicework in things like Skyrim.

This strike represents an industry not aware of how screwed it is.

Posted by: m0lr4k at August 06, 2024 10:43 AM (MRA68)

114 And just to be clear, this is not on the fly voice generation, but pre-rendered dialog added into mods. No (terrible) voice actor needed, and dialog fully spoken in your mod, practically for free.
