Good morning everyone.
Pixy, The site has been loading slow though it's mostly the photos or pictures that are a problem. I'm using a new iPad Air. Posted by: Tuna at August 05, 2024 04:19 AM (oaGWv) 5
Right after the Book Thread yesterday, I discovered I had a quarter inch of water in both my kitchen and bathroom floors. I had to spend most of an hour mopping, and damming the leaks from next door with towels once I found the entry points. This is right on schedule; I've had a leak like this nearly every 18 months since I've lived here.
The water has either ceased to flow, or the flow is so minimal that the towels are holding it back. (Obligatory: I am so sick of this place --!) On top of that, I have to fast this morning, and no coffee either, in prep for a blood draw at the dr.'s office. I'll go exercise in a bit, which will take my mind off being hungry, and can have coffee and a microwave breakfast bowl when I get back to work. CNET: Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro Review: Better Than the AirPods Pro 2
Articles like this are stupid. If you have an iPhone the chances of you buying something other than AirPods is vanishingly small. And if you have an Android phone, what are the odds that you're even going to know what an Airpod sounds like? Not to mention airpods are probably crippled on an Android phone making them next to useless. Posted by: Alteria Pilgram at August 05, 2024 05:23 AM (rIBZP) We were at Target on Saturday to get the last of the baby items on our list (7 weeks out!) and wanted to buy a baby monitor. I don't want video, I don't want an ankle monitor that gives the baby's heartrate, and I certainly don't want something that's going to hog all my phone data and battery as it sends my baby's vitals to China. So, we decided on the $20 audio monitor, and it was double-locked to the shelf. The electronics guy was baffled, because Airpods are their most stolen item, and they aren't locked up at all. Awright; time to hit the road. Only about three hours to coffee and breakfast, depending on how fast they get to me at the doctor for the blood draw, and where I wind up parking the car afterward.

Here’s the full quote of Harris’ remarks: “This is an extraordinary day, and, um, I’m very thankful for our president and what he has done over his entire career but in particular as it relates to these families and these individuals—what he has been able to do to bring the allies together on many issues but in particular this one. This is just an extraordinary testament to the importance of having a president who understands the power of diplomacy and understands the strength that rests in understanding the significance of diplomacy and strengthening alliances. This is an incredible day.”

Front page loads real slowly and it took about an entire minute for it to load this page. Laptop and FireFox browser, usual government spyware. I have Twitter open in another tab. That sometimes slows things down. Posted by: Divide by Zero at August 05, 2024 06:34 AM (RKVpM) 110

Pixy, going slow on Android (Kindle Fire) Brave last night.
Last night's ONT wouldn't finish loading, ever. Never finished, somehow, loading comments of the week (that section was left blank, I thought at first it was a joke, which would be kind of funny), and never loaded the final pic in the thread. For several hours yesterday the site was slow to load, several times would not load at all. After waiting a while, returned at 8 EDT to find the site loading correctly again. Worked well this morning. Posted by: Jim at August 05, 2024 07:34 AM (zhWvq) Posted by: SMOD at August 05, 2024 08:33 AM (RHGPo) 115

Blog loads fine this morning, Linux/Firefox. And that's something. The Linux version of Firefox barfs on an ever increasing number of web pages recently. Been using Brave more.

Hi Pixy,
As to slow loading, mine is an extreme circumstance, but may be useful. I have a 2017 item iMac running OSX 10.14.6, 16GB RAM, Safari 13.1.2. I use an iPhone 14 as my internet connection. In the last couple of days this site has loaded very slowly, especially graphics, but today I have read the morning report and your column, am now writing this note, and the sidebars have yet to load. Good lock, and thanks for all the fish. Posted by: Russ Rhodes at August 05, 2024 09:53 AM (OBUH6) 120
Device locks up for a loooong time and repeatedly, trying to load new pages / topics. Almost unusable.
iPad mini4 iOS 15.8.3 Brave browser I’ve been assuming it was some sort of thwarted ad load or privacy intrusion / blocked data collection. Site works fine on multiple Win10 PCs and Win11 laptop, various browsers. Posted by: Rayra at August 05, 2024 10:04 AM (eJd7P) 121
Locked up on Edge browser running on iPad. Can’t close, must shut down to get out last night. Today opened for about a minute without displaying, clicked stop loading and it showed what was loading. When I didn’t do this it would continue to load indefinitely while I viewed but would not scroll or haltingly.

Have been having trouble loading this site for years. It’s either very slow loading or it flat out crashes my stuff. I’ve been trying to tell you guys about this for years but it never gets any better. I’m sure it’s hurting Ace’s eyeball count and this has always been my favorite blog but I can rarely access it. Cheers and good luck Posted by: GB at August 05, 2024 11:32 AM (nJaVc) Processing 0.02, elapsed 0.0244 seconds. |
