In one of the Fu Manchu novels, Denis Nayland Smith, the special inspector who hunted Dr. Fu in the early books, had a walking stick that had been specially prepared. The head had been hollowed out and lead had been installed and allowed to cool. It made a solid weapon for use against dacoits and Lascars (whatever they were) in Dr. Fu's employ.

119 Major Sir William Newenham Montague Orpen, KBE, RA, RHA (27 November 1878 – 29 September 1931), was an Irish artist who worked mainly in London. Orpen was a fine draughtsman and a popular, commercially successful, painter of portraits for the well-to-do in Edwardian society, though many of his most striking paintings are self-portraits.

During World War I, he was the most prolific of the official artists sent by Britain to the Western Front. There he produced drawings and paintings of ordinary soldiers, dead men, and German prisoners of war, as well as portraits of generals and politicians. Most of these works, 138 in all, he donated to the British government and they are now in the collection of the Imperial War Museum...

YouGov: 45% Trump to 25% Kamala on the question of, who will make you better off? A tsumami of collapsing stockmarkets in Asia on Monday coming our way.

Expect the economy to dominate news cycles with this stock market shock. I think it's an over-reaction. US annualized growth at 2.8% in second quarter. Job numbers reported on Friday will probably be revised up next month.

This is the worst single day fall in points in the history of the Nikkei or as a percentage since the 80s. Look at other Asian markets too. South Korea down 9%.Taiwan down 8%. But this isn't a day long event as you say. This is a contagion that will impact our stockmarkets, our confidence, our news cycles, and the Republican narrative.

The economy is great, stock market corrections happen, especially after a long run to irrational exuberance levels. I've seen this happen too many times over the decades. Don't fall for the doom and gloom bs.

298 To help bridge the gap between art and boobs, I'd like to share a Rammstein video I just discovered called "Dicke Titten". As with many things Rammstein, it's a little silly, a little over the top, but has some deeper meaning: https://tinyurl.com/4yzkuuys

The translation: https://tinyurl.com/dzftd3ha

The TLDR- Old blind man wants love, and doesn't ask for much, except she has big boobs. In the video, he's surrounded by it (and other good things), but doesn't know.

"America in the Morning" mentioned this today. Apparently RFK Jr. was on a skiing trip and witnessed a woman hit a young bear with her car and drive off. He said he grabbed it, thinking to skin it and eat the meat, but somehow that never happened. So he had to get it out of his car. His friends in Manhattan conceived the idea of leaving the corpse in Central Park and making it look like a bicycle (?!) accident. It caused a few days' worth of sensation, and has not been solved until now.

Let me Google AI answer that for you. It involves Charli XCX, some British pop singer: In recent years, particularly with the release of Charli XCX’s album “Brat” in June 2024, the term “brat” has taken on a new meaning. According to Charli XCX herself, a “brat” is a person who is:
Messy and loves to party
Honest, blunt, and a little volatile
Someone who feels themselves, but also has breakdowns and parties through them
Embracing an unapologetic, imperfect, and confident lifestyle, rejecting traditional norms of being polished and poised.
The “brat summer” trend, inspired by Charli XCX’s album, has become a cultural phenomenon, symbolizing a carefree and unapologetic attitude, particularly among Gen Z and millennials.

And? Why does this matter in fact? I don't mean perception - in terms of perceptions, it's ugly - but why does it matter in fact? What influence does this have on reality?

It doesn't matter. It has no influence. Congress is not in control of *anything.* It has spent a century eroding its own power and outsourcing its obligations. It has left itself just one thing to do, and it refuses to do that one thing (the budget) out of a combination of avarice and cowardice.

It can be on vacation or it can be polluting the chambers and airwaves with its presence. The outcomes are the same either way. I might prefer vacation, actually. At least when they're on vacation, they're not pretending to be important and making silly speeches.

385 We're about to head into the biggest recession since 2008. Probably be as big as 2008 but the biggest since then.

2008 ushered in Obama's reign of mediocrity, during which the "recovery" petered along, while everyone told us an anemic, middling economy was the new normal we all had to get used to.

Trump showed us that the economy could roar again.

Biden's goal was to go back to Obama's lesser days, but ended up leaving us worse than it was in 2016.

This has always been a domestic policy election, and on every issue that affects people's bottom dollar, Trump wins handily.

Hammer the issues and the election is a shoe-in. Personally, I'm fascinated to see how the Dems will steal it.

They've sorted of started already.

A major street here is named for Sir Henry Dundas but even though he was an abolitionist too and good friend of Simcoe [who banned the slave trade in 1794 in the new colony that would become Ontario] and had him appointed the colony's first Lt Governor, they've cancelled him for not holding the "banning slavery outright" vote when the abolitionists wanted to because he knew it would fail because Britain was busy fighting Napoleon at the time! saving it for a later Parliamentary vote that did succeed.

Worse, they're renaming it to some black African phrase that turns out to be from a tribe that sold other blacks into slavery! Like your Dems wearing that African stole while kneeling for BLM that were from a slaver tribe as well.

First, Scottie Scheffler came from 4 off the pace to win with a course record tying 9 under par 62 to win an Olympic gold medal, for which he was appropriately appreciative.
Then, Leta Lindley, who retired from the LPGA tour a dozen years ago after a solid but modest career to raise her children, and who managed to finish second in her first two years of the US Senior (+50) Open, came from 5 off the pace with a course record tying 7 under 64.
A fine day spent hiding from the heat in front of the television.

I *might* be willing to take the other side of that one. Peak-to-trough movement could well be bigger. It might not be as fast. 2008-2009 was a grand breakdown. It might be more stretched out over the next decade.

But debt loads are way greater now, and the system is actually quite a bit more fragile than it was then. It will come down to whether the powers that be have enough "policy arrows" in their quivers to do what they did in 2008 and fake it at the expense of the future. If they do, look for many years of bouncing along sideways with grinding slow-motion decline. If they don't, it falls apart quickly.

They're out of room. The Fed can influence rates, but it can't compel them lower. It can defend government finance by directly purchasing the debt at below-market rates, and lose further control over inflation. They can't stop it from crowding out productive investment.

Since Dick "Deficits Don't Matter" Cheney, they've *all* been searching for the limits of this game while simultaneously pretending that there are no limits at all.

The inflation, employment, productivity and various fiscal and monetary indicators are flashing red. We may well be learning where the limits are.

>>Trump showed us that the economy could roar again.

We face three, nearly insurmountable hurdles.

1. More than half the country are drugged out lunatics, AWFL's and illegals, who don't care one bit about anything other than getting high, remaining part of the ingroup and getting taxpayer subsidized handouts.

2. The Donks control enough voting apparatuses in enough locales to keep their grip on power either fully or enough so as not to allow the substantive changes that are necessary to right the ship.

3. A corrupt, compromised and bought off illegitimate opposition party that has enough control of the apparatuses so as to prevent any other group from gaining control and fighting back.

If we could simply solve one of those items, we might have a fighting chance.
