Tucker Carlson: The Government Claims It Has a Right to Privacy From Its Citizens But Denies the Right of Its Citizens to Have Their Own Secrets

Kinda-sorta the exact opposite of the idea of America, isn't it?

He was at a forum with Donald Trump, Jr. and was asked about privacy in banking for cryptocoins.

"Privacy is the point. With no privacy, there is no freedom. It is a pre-requisite for freedom," Carlson agreed.
"You know where there is privacy and secrecy in great abundance?" he continued. "The federal government, which has classified over a billion documents describing what they're doing with our money, in our name. This is our government."
"And yet they have every right to keep key decisions from us ... they just allowed the presidential candidate to get shot, and we're not allowed to know how that happened or why," Carlson added. "So to take a lecture from them about how I'm a criminal because I want privacy in my financial transactions or my phone calls or my text messages, really? Fuck you, actually."
The crowd burst into a round of applause at Carlson's statements, which ring horrifyingly true when you really think about it. "I'm sorry to use profanity, but that makes me so mad," he added, even though he didn't need to apologize. We're all adults here.
"Like that's prima facie evidence of a crime. You haven't even declassified the Kennedy assassination files 61 years later, and you're lecturing me about wanting to have an encrypted text conversation? How dare you! You work for me! You should be in prison," Carlson concluded.

Not true actually of anyone serving the public. Public accommodation laws have a history going back to the Revolution in the US.

Basically, if you engage in public commerce as in buying and selling--you circumvent some of your rights as a property owner. Don't engage in commerce, then your property rights are at its highest but still not absolute.

Not trying to talk trash, I love my 1911s but in my opinion the modern "stack and a half" concealed carry guns are too good to give up the ammo capacity in favor of a 6+1 piece as a primary.

Also the grip of the Sig P365XL fits my hand like no other gun I've ever had.

Just skip any red dot made by Sig. Hot garbage. The Holosun I changed it out for is light years better.

The Trudeau government argued they had ABSOLUTE immunity against lawsuits filed over unconstitutional laws.

The case revolved around a man who was convicted and served his time. Once out he became an X-ray technician. Then he decided to seek a pardon for his crimes. It used to be after five years you could petition to receive a pardon.

But the law was changed making it impossible to receive such a pardon. When the man's employer found out about his conviction he was fired. Then the law was ruled unconstitutional. He sued for damages, job loss seems pretty big damage.

The case made it all the way to the Canadian version of the US Supreme Court. The court upheld a previous ruling that stated citizens can sue the government in certain circumstances over an unconstitutional law.

Betting markets have not been reliable predictors for some time due to ideologue investors and thin market clearance rates.

More reliable predictors are things that are correlated with victory or success but not as manipulable like gdp, employment, inflation, etc.

There is a whole subgenre of political forecasters in poli sci that make their predictions publicly in March or something around there and then meet after the election at a major poli sci conference to crow or eat crow about their predicted results.

Helmut Northpol was one of those guys predicting Trump's victory in March of 2016 and there is a guy at Emory also involved in that bunch whose name escapes me.

Standard when I was a bar-keep while in college - you needed 33% of the total end of night profits at the restaurant/pub or things got ugly pretty quickly. That forced the bar help to be attentive to the waitress' or waiters' table needs first - they ruled. Food draws them in, but the bar helps keep the sustainable profits overall and that keeps the chefs employed - and liquor is almost all profit by the ounce, at least in that setting.

I am well aware of Wickard v. Filburn (don't cry for the guy, the family farm was sold to build a shopping mall back in the day). The argument was that if everyone did as Filburn did there would be mass hysteria. That decision by an FDR court during the middle of WWII was the highmark of commerce clause power but even there you had to have an action related to engaging in commerce to be regulated. And remember, it was over federal law and NOT about a state's police power over safety and welfare of its citizens.

They retain the power to regulate things that are not directly commerce like property zoning, safety laws, etc. to control your use of property.

Randy Barnett though persuaded the court in the Obamacare case that it did not apply to make people buy something because the federal government cannot mandate commerce occur.

Aggregation of polls with known errors with good ones actually magnifies bad results by throwing away essentially good information.

But Real Clear is stuck. Just like predictive markets, leftists ruin every source of information with their lies, distortions and cheating.

The idea in Filburn was that no one state, or any one individual could hold the entire country hostage to a commerce agreement under the commerce clause. The national interest was always to be considered paramount to the individual or the state.

This was actually counter-intuitive to the founding, and the Constitution and its basic originality - which always suggested that tyranny followed such conclusions that the many over-ruled the one...I would suggest that the framers had it right over FDRs SCOTUS contrived ruling.

This wasn't an argument over boundaries or river navigation between states, or extradition of criminals of any one state vs another as the Constitution provided for - it was about the sovereignty of the individual and the state. It was a bad decision.
