17 In the AMD Ryzen article at Toms Hardware, the "undoubtedly" in this claim seems to go too far--

"... it's possible that the erroneous markings may not be the only issue. However, it is undoubtedly a contributing factor."

Looks like good sleuthing, though.

37 My latest weird dream (thanks, melatonin): I woke in a bedroom that was huge, about the size of a boardroom, with windows on two sides covered in thin blinds. I'd heard a *thump* from the bedroom before I went to sleep, so I went to see. Turned out the toilet tank had slipped way down, much lower than usual. It still flushed; but I had to hold the tank up until it filled. Yeah, makes no sense.

Neither did this: Half my clothes were missing from my closet. Dressed in T-shirt and jeans, I went looking. Apparently I lived among a group of cabins, and I had the idea that the rest of my clothes were in one of them. But they were all occupied. And I was late for work.

I don't think I do. Maybe 3-4 cups of coffee a day. Sometimes just 1 or 2. What would constitute 'overcaffeinated'? I don't drink pop (soda, whatever) and the only caffeine intake I do is coffee.

61 It's been 3 years since I had cataract surgery on both eyes and it still astonishes me at the improvement in my vision--and I thought my vision prior to the surgery was excellent.

During recovery, there were times that I experienced sensory overload looking down range, from so much detail being available. I found it necessary to blink and refocus. This has diminished over time and no longer bothers though it was unsettling for while. A side benefit, my scores on the range improved noticeably.

I used to have "you didn't fulfill the three quarters of English classes requirement as an undergraduate so we are going to boot you out of our Ph.D. program" dreams. Those were not fun as awakening prompts.

Full disclosure: I took only one quarter of English because ny high school had required and offered sufficiently rigorous courses so that I entered upon my college career fully capable of writing, reading, and communicating all by myself. The true downside was that I had to read the execrable "Catcher in the Rye" during that single quarter class.

-

From what I can tell it's a 13 or 14 series.

""Based on extensive analysis of Intel Core 13th/14th Gen desktop processors returned to us due to instability issues, we have determined that elevated operating voltage is causing instability issues in some 13th/14th Gen desktop processors. Our analysis of returned processors confirms that the elevated operating voltage is stemming from a microcode algorithm resulting in incorrect voltage requests to the processor.""

Which is funny because part of the marketing of these is to be able to overclock them.

Apparently they're releasing a patch, but if your processor is already misbehaving it won't do anything to fix it. I suspect it will be to cripple everyone elses processors they paid a premium for.

Posted by: BeckoningChasm at July 29, 2024 06:36 AM (w+hdv)
