Gordale Scar is a bank of limestone cliffs near Settle, Yorkshire. Ward painted this picture for Lord Ribblesdale, a local landowner. He emphasised the height and scale of the cliffs by subtly manipulating the perspective. In the foreground he shows deer and cattle, including a white bull from the (originally wild) Chillingham herd, who appears to guard the cleft of Gordale Beck. Working in the last years of the Napoleonic wars, Ward aimed to depict a national landscape, primordial and unchanging, defended by ‘John Bull’ in animal form. His painting
also epitomised the awe-inspiring qualities of the fashionable ‘Sublime’ landscape.

The left side of the cliff looks as if a Titan carved it with a gigantic sword. The right side, it's hard to tell; the darkness may be *beyond* the actual rock face, or it might be the darkened face of the cleft. Within, is that a stream and a small waterfall?

This is a nice example of how an artist will manipulate reality to fit his desired mood. In the painting, the rocks are a lot more craggy. The waterfall is lower. The cliff face of the canyon in the background into an imposing wall. I wish the Reddit photograph had animals in it so I could compare scale. The photo looks like a neat place to go hiking. The painting looks like the entrance to the Dimholt Forest and the Paths of the Dead.

177 Democrats lost a lot of arguments in the biggest way in the span of an evening.

- Rhetoric
- Violent MAGA
- Weak Trump
- Party of Tolerance

And on top of that the air came out of their entire argument for reelection which is that Trump is a special sort of evil and awfulness that must be stopped at *any* cost.

Go back 6 weeks and they had already lost all their stuff they were pumping up Biden with. Competence, leadership, strength.

Their only choice now (besides trying again) is to pivot to Female Obama - and I don't mean Michelle. I don't think that's the mood of the country, but I think they have to unless they've got the cheat sealed up. If anything they may have to move to Kamalamania to cover for the upcoming cheat because at this point *no one* believes Biden can beat Trump.

Between the festivities at the RNC and the reports about the details of the shooting the Dims are continuing their coup but under cover. At this point I'm no longer confident will make it through this. I think they'll ditch him.

I'm honestly surprised. I assumed the assassination attempt would suck up all the publicity, and only major public pressure would convince Biden to step down, and with the deadline quickly approaching, the coup would give up and Biden would coast across the finish line through sheer inertia.

Instead, major insiders are ACCELERATING the process. That means they are very serious and determined, and this isn't just some trial ballooning. Biden is in trouble.

270 >>So the SS is really going to go with a mass shooting theory and not attempted assassination?

Is THAT the new narrative? Ho-ly cow!

Just the way they're behaving indicates malice. Think of every major shooting, bombing (domestic terror attack) we've had since 9/11. The hours and days following are a series of press conferences where the assembled authorities provide the latest information (the first one typically being short on info, but a show of authority meant to assure people it's being addressed).

Except for the first one w/the FBI, where are the press conferences? Why is the SS Director essentially in hiding. I mean, when has the person in charge following an attack chosen to sit down for a careful 1-on-1 interview instead of addressing the public???

Cheatle, at minimum, is glaringly incompetent. She should have been forced to resign or fired already.
No one in charge is acting normally.

I assume he was sucking up to the circles of elite-like minded people he was in after the publishing of Hillbilly Elegy. Well, not so much sucking up, but just accepting the common assumptions of the circles he was in.

Apparently, it seems like one of the big turning points for him was when the Netflix adaptation of his book got trashed by critics. Elegy had already gone from high praise, even on the left, to problematic, especially on the left, and the reviews of the movie were nasty which shocked him.

I still see him as something of an opportunist, like most politicians. I just have low opinions of politicians in general. You have to do something like regular charity eye surgeries for the poor to rise out of that muck in my mind.

362 Imagine X in biblical times. Paul is tweeting out insidious messages urging that all Christians be put to death, and about the barratry committed by Jesus against the Jewish faith.

A year or two latter, with a little help, Paul becomes the biggest advocate for Jesus Christ, who he proclaims was indeed the son of God.

What would people then say- that Paul was some type of fraud? Would they question his sincerity? Of course some did initially, even back then. But beyond that Paul then became one of the biggest advocates for Jesus.

Sometimes it’s a price to find the truth. Human instincts, especially initial judgements often made quickly or sporadically. Know them by their deeds.

People were moral then. Not anymore. You got a job then in a factory you were set for life. Factories gone. You died within 10 miles of where you were born. I have two children, one lives 500 miles away, the other 600 miles away.

If I had been able to keep my factory I would have turned it over to them a decade ago and they'd still live in the area. Can I depend upon them financially in any way? No.

50 cent just did a concert Saturday in Boston, and had Trump's face superimposed on his album cover for "Get Rich or Die Tryin'", which was projected behind him: https://tinyurl.com/365fm9rd

Shortly thereafter, black YouTube creators started making animations and remakes of his songs with Trump lyrics and voiceovers, and then doing reactions to them. It's big, and growing, and the comments sections are hilarious.

508 Trump has been making inroads into the black community, and recent events have just catapulted him even higher.

This. The Fitty thing is YUGE. He is an entrepreneur like no other and his stamp of approval means a lot. I suspect he was a closet Trump voter anyway but he can sway a lot of new voters toward Trump if he is openly supporting him.

On a side note, Fitty's "Many Men" and Tom McDonald's "You Missed" should be blasted at every event between now and November.

Trump was an outsider. Hell, he was a former Democrat! He didn't act, talk, or have the pedigree of any other reasonable Republican presidential candidate. Even for those unhappy with the GOPe, that could have looked a bit too extreme.

Trump will spin it as a redemption story. "Even my greatest haters and enemies can change, and come to fully support me, once they talk with me and understand my plan for America."

524 Cove Collection Org. Gordale Scar (A View of Gordale, in the Manor of East Malham in Craven, Yorkshire, the Property of Lord Ribblesdale) Created by Chelsea Brian on Thu, 12/02/2021

In part, 'The composition gives a strong impression of nature overpowering the diminutive viewer that makes up the painting’s perspective, thus offering a prime illustration of the sublime’s terrifying, yet awe-inspiring aesthetic qualities. However, the curated view of the scene is also an example of the picturesque in its rugged and irregular appearance and bucolic aesthetic. It was commonplace at this time for landowners to request artistic depictions of their estates, and this is an apt example of this practice, particularly as relating to its carefully composed, and likely exaggerated, appearance. James Ward was well-known for his masterful paintings of animals, so was especially suited for this pastoral, yet sublime, piece of art that encapsulates several aesthetic concepts of the Romantic Era.'

Interesting. Might hang. Thank you.

528 Many people have serious problems with delayed gratification. I believe studies (spit) have shown that it's extremely common with low-level criminals.

The devil is in the details. Your choices are "not horrible" for the fairly young or well off and get worse from there. The elderly who didn't prepare would take option 1 because they have no choice and a few years later it would all be undone by stories of the elderly dying in extreme poverty. The young and intelligent would take option 2 because it's best. Those on the brink of retirement would need to see what the numbers said on option 3. Once I'm retired I don't really pay the taxes so that threat holds no sway. At the same time, can I parlay the partial payout into more than the written in stone payout? Depends on too many imponderables but it might be worth a shot.
