Wednesday Morning Rant

Malicious Incompetence

The assassination attempt on Donald Trump this past weekend remains, of course, a major topic of discussion, analysis and speculation. Given the staggering security failure and amazing near-miss that made it an attempt rather than a success combined with the nearly decade-long campaign of hate and invective against Trump, one of the avenues of speculation and disagreement can be summarized as Hanlon's Razor: was it incompetence or malice?

The answer that question is usually "yes," because both are at play. I think both were at play here, too. While I think it would be too inconsistent with recent behavior to rule out or dismiss the idea of conspiracy to finally "get Trump," I don't think that's what this was. I strongly suspect the problem is the combination of malice and the everyday gross incompetence that increasingly defines the operations of the United States.

Gross incompetence is compounded by attitude and institutional opposition, and there is certainly a lot of bad attitude and opposition directed at Trump. Congressman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) decided to pull a publicity stunt by floating a bill to strip Trump of Secret Service protection. That was not going to happen, but it does help expose the the Party and the government attitude about things. They denied Secret Service protection to outsider candidate RFK, Jr. altogether - until a couple of days ago, when that became too petty to sustain in the post-attempt environment.

Institutional priorities were also potentially a factor. Susan Crabtree of RealClearPolitics reported via X that Trump's regular detail was both small and overworked due to his travel schedule and that members of Trump's regular Secret Service detail were reassigned to cover Jill Biden's event in nearby Pittsburgh the same day and the net result of both was lots of last-minute substitutions to cover the Trump rally. The Secret Service has denied both of these claims and per LegalInsurrection, some of the substitutions may have been incompetent augmentation due to an Iranian threat. One thing remains true, however: Trump's Secret Service detail at the RNC was a lot bigger and a lot maler than it was in Butler.

Hatred and indifference aside, competence is clearly a factor, as it is everywhere. Diminutive women aren't going to be able to shove around a large and potentially uncooperative man if needed. It was a needed, and they failed. Had there been a second shooter, Trump would have provided an opportunity to finish the job when he popped back up from behind the lectern, and the Secret Service was physically incapable of keeping him down and covered. Those agents shouldn't have been there in that role, but believing that - much less saying it out loud - is too politically incorrect to contemplate.

The other details leaking out over the past several days are just as bad as surrounding the frontrunner with incompetent DEI hires. "That roof was kinda steep and that's risky" is a hell of a take, but that's what we got from the DEI hire in charge of the Secret Service. There were agents inside the obvious sniper position, but not on top of it. Apparently, it was also too hot. Not for the assassin. Many people actively disbelieve the "it was too steep, so we didn't bother" explanation, but there may well be at least a kernel of truth in it. Protocol and "safety" take precedence over thought and action every time. It is central to the accountability avoidance system that defines officialdom.

So was it an "op?" I have no idea, but I kind of don't think so. I think the Secret Service - and the government more broadly - doesn't like Trump and wants him dead, but that is not quite the same thing as thinking that they actively conspired in a plot to kill him. That attitude, however, combined with incompetence at all levels from DEI to rampant "safteyism" and box-ticking, ensures negative outcomes.

You don't need a conspiracy when the institutional players are a toxic brew of dumb and hateful.

28 Some more interesting facts:

Somebody shorted a whole lot of Truth Social stock in the week before the assassination attempt.

In his interview with Lester Holt, Biden said he was in the Situation Room on Saturday.

Biden normally spends his weekends in Delaware, of course.

69 Sorry, but you need to catch up. For the rest of the country this is quickly becoming a "Epstein didn't kill himself" type of phenomenon. Just look at two headlines from this morning's report":

"Biden’s Team Deliberately Kneecapped Trump’s Security To Allow An Assassination Attempt" on thefederalist.com

and

"The Official Story On Trump’s Shooting Makes No Sense At All"

They don't sat so in their headlines, but in the text it's pretty obvious what they're pointing out - the shooter was undoubtedly dispatched by the same cabal that intentionally created the security vulnerability. It was a political assassination attempt orchestrated by the White House, plain and simple, and it could hardly be more obvious.

While you're at it, read that Breitbart article where a retired sniper and security expert talks about it.

Possible, yeah. This is one of those things that might come out in the coming weeks. My interpretation of what I saw in the video is that Trump hit the deck, the Secret Service rushed over to cover him, then he popped back up pretty quickly. The whole Social Security thing is largely a canard and it annoys me. It's a political football that doesn't need to exist. Social Security is salvageable. Medicare (well, CMS, which includes Medicaid and some other things, but it's mostly Medicare) is the whole problem, and everyone at high levels knows it. Since that is the real issue, they play with Social Security instead so that they don't have to do anything and can get cheap soundbites while the government goes bankrupt.

Mine was this... you know that photo where she appears to be hiding behind the dogpile on Trump... everyone says that she was afraid. I don't know, maybe it was her job to look for additional threats while everyone else was occupied... whatever. Anyway, the shooter was to the side of Trump, not in front, so she was all alone, looking in a direction other than the known threat, uncovered by anything. If that was her job and she did it anyway, kudos to her for having the balls to do the job even if she lacked the rest of the equipment needed.

Barry issued a statement on the attempt before Biden did.

How big was the assassin's backpack? Apparently, that's how he carried the rifle to the rooftop. Was the backpack a "backpack" or a gun case? Was the rifle assembled as he climbed the roof, or was it a quick-assembly weapon that would be difficult to find in the general marketplace?

Anyway, keeping it running required that we give it just a bit of TLC every day. That TLC was NOT safe. It was, in fact, stupidly NOT safe... like reach your arm into a piece of rotating electrical equipment to clean stuff off not safe. But it was mission critical. We had a young sailor flat out refuse to do what was needed and the command permitted it. So I did it, every day... still have both arms so it all worked out.

And people on our side have had to deal with that for the past few years.

Good and hard until they beg for mercy. Then keep doing it for a bit longer until they learn to behave like human beings.

You know that photo of the would-be assassin that’s been circulating since Saturday?

It was taken by the Secret Service.

And yet somehow he was allowed to roam the complex, with a gun and a range finder, climb the roof of the closest and most obvious building with a clear shot at Trump, get nice and cozy and comfortable for nearly 10 minutes, and then fire off multiple shots before anyone seemed to care about his presence.

204 "The whole Social Security thing is largely a canard and it annoys me. It's a political football that doesn't need to exist. Social Security is salvageable. Medicare (well, CMS, which includes Medicaid and some other things, but it's mostly Medicare) is the whole problem, and everyone at high levels knows it. Since that is the real issue, they play with Social Security instead so that they don't have to do anything and can get cheap soundbites while the government goes bankrupt."

Exactly right. I expect the CMS detonation to play out in a rather dramatic fashion over the next decade or so. The generation one older than us (I'm 56 now) is going into this with the expectation that government backed healthcare is always going to be there for them. They'll be dying off at the same approximate time CMS degenerates into whatever ultimately takes its place.

Zip. Also, the only photo of Crooks being shown is when he was a Freshman in HS - which is 14 or 15 years old wearing a US flag t-shirt. No other photos from ages 16-20. We saw the photo of him on the roof with what looks to be long hair but there are no photos of him since age 14? Trayvon Martin anyone? Las Vegas shooter anyone? This one smells bad.

237 It seems, for now, that the Secret Service owns acting somewhere along the spectrum of criminal negligence, recklessness, and indirect intentionally.

This range asks, did the SS fail to act reasonably about securing the assassin location, knew the risk posed by the assassin location and consciously disregarded that risk, and finally, by conscious inaction created the opportunity for an assassin to gain access to the rooftop.

There is a 4th option: direct intentionality that entails an actor or actors actively being involved with recruiting the assassin and then facilitating that assassination attempt. In same manner this resembles the ludacris "plot" to kidnap Gov. Whitmer stoked by, IIRC, the FBI.

Which of these, alone or in combination, is correct is still not certain. What seems clear is somebody or somebodies should find themselves facing a jury. I am not holding my breath anything of consequence will occur; after all, this all happened in the larger political context of "stopping the primary threat to the precious democracy."

Huma Abedin, Alex Soros ready to start a family and want kids — but she’s still not divorced from Anthony Weiner | NY Post

Don’t expect new power couple Huma Abedin and Alex Soros to wed too soon — because Abedin is still not divorced from disgraced politician Anthony Weiner, sources confirm.

The former aide to Hillary Clinton, 47, and the son of billionaire Democratic donor George Soros, 38, announced their engagement last week.

Soros proposed in May in NYC with a dazzling diamond rumored to cost around a million dollars, and the duo later celebrated their engagement in Italy.

The brunette filed for divorce from Weiner in May 2017, nine months after he became embroiled in a sexting scandal that followed years of similar indiscretions.

The USSS may or may not have been it.
Someone in the USSS may or may not have been it.
Another faction in the Left may or may not have been it.
We may never know but consider this (from ONT):

Firstly how did the assassin walk through security and crowds with a ladder and a rifle, not necessarily at the same time? Or were those stashed on site previously?
Secondly, the day before he went to the range and then went to the hardware store to buy a ladder and ammo. So he already knew he needed a ladder. Had he scouted the shooting location prior to this? Or had someone told him he would need a ladder?

The images of the strategically placed ladder have emerged as Secret Service admit they did not sweep the building where the shooter took his position, but instead entrusted that role to local law enforcement officers.

Daily Mail reports the local cops saying he climbed up the AC equipment, which is clearly visible in the pics of the building, and easily climbable. The 12 foot ladder behind the tree, and *right next to the police car* is most likely, IMO, the ladder cops used to go up and check the shooters pulse.

A twenty year old doesn't need a ladder to get on top of a building like this. Ask this former avid hacky-sack player how he knows. He may have bought a ladder, and reports say he had a receipt, but walking a mile with it? Nah.

That's definite. There were about 17,000 murders in 2019, about the same as other recent years. Then, with the "peaceful" rioting that started in 2020, the murder rate soared 32 percent, by about 5,000 in one year.

Over three years then, with the Democrats caving in to all the worst ideas, we had 15,000 more murders because cops weren't there to protect the people.

If you think about it, SOMEBODY, SOMEWHERE is always telling us what we're allowed to say and think about things. It's clearly NOT some sort of grassroots thing - it is being DICTATED from SOMEWHERE. You can tell that from how the message is EXACTLY THE SAME, regardless of which direction it comes from, and NO DEVIATIONS, and no debates are tolerated.

It's the same enemy we face in the political sphere. and that's what this war is about - exposing them, and taking them down. So when that happens - as they ARE taken down - the promiscuous, perverse stuff being pushed should start to finally evaporate.

I don't think it's in endgame yet, but it *will* end one way or another. A system that, over a long timeframe, makes everyone in it unhappy will not survive. The end may be clean or dirty, but it will end because it is not fit for purpose and people will stop defending it. This particular bad system also helps repress birth rates, and starving yourself of a future is no recipe for success.

400 If the overhead diagrams of the shooters position are correct, he took up an odd location on the roof. The roof is yuge. The obvious best position would have been on the right side of the roof (when facing the stage) because it's closer to point of roof access, AND gives a better, wider angle on the stage.

Yet Crooks walks all the way across the roof to the far left side. It seems a harder shot from there, more exposure to being seen, and overall counterproductive.

I could be wrong and the diagrams could be wrong. But this is another thing that raises red flags for me.

401 President Biden is finalizing plans to endorse major changes to the Supreme Court in the coming weeks, including proposals for legislation to establish term limits for the justices and an enforceable ethics code, according to two people briefed on the plans.

Both term limits and an externally enforceable ethics code, other than impeachment, would require constitutional amendments. Increasing the size of SCOTUS, however, would only require legislation.

405 And if it's supposed to be about Christianity, then again I missed something because I believe God said we were all sinners and to please leave the judgment to him."

Jesus also said go and sin no more. I believe strongly that those two issues require different responses and I think Trump's choice of Vance indicates he feels the same. Abortion is murder. Full stop it is the snuffing out of human life.It should not be condoned.

Homosexual behavior is not murder. While it should not be public policy to facilitate or encourage that behavior because it is not a positive thing for society, we also should not be busting down people's bedroom doors to police what they do in private.

On a personal level, God loves every sinner even as he hates our sin. Bans on so called "conversion therapy" that might help people who wish to do the Godly thing, even when it conflicts with their carnal nature, are ridiculous.

A twenty year old doesn't need a ladder to get on top of a building like this. Ask this former avid hacky-sack player how he knows. He may have bought a ladder, and reports say he had a receipt, but walking a mile with it? Nah.

That has nothing to do with a fear of censure by voters though. Intuitively Trump is more of a bogeyman when he was an unknown in 2016, and the numbers tend to support that there was less resistance to voting for him based on such pressure in 2020.

On paper the official 2020 story is Trump did better with blacks in general than 2016, but Biden substantially outperformed prior D candidates with blacks in the precise regions he needed to.

461 I was thinking last night about the cap on Trump support. It might be time to put together something like this:

------
Don't like high costs and high crime? Can't convince yourself to vote for Donald Trump?

When voting, write in someone you think might do the job well. Make sure neither party can "claim" you meant to vote for them, when the votes are counted!
------

I'm not sure how best to get this out in front of people. While it doesn't mean more votes for Trump, it would make it harder to fill in a selection during counting....

462 450 Yeah why did they arrest the Key West woman? It was a private sexual act. !!

3 gay guys were hanging out. One pair has been a couple off and on. This person got jealous because the other 2 were flirting. He left the apartment, told the police a black man was going crazy with a weapon. The police opened the closed, but unlocked, apartment door. 1 cop said they saw anal, another said oral and 2 didn’t report any sexual activity. They were charged with deviate sexual conduct, and pled not guilty. The issue was the right to privacy.

How do the local cops know he used the AC to climb? Did they see him climb? If not then they are guessing, same as everyone else. If they saw him climb then they are really in the shits.
Fact is he did buy a ladder. Is that ladder the one he bought? Pretty easy to find out.

464 Of course it's a conspiracy. There have been multiple conspiracies against him for like 8 years already. Helllloooo?!?!?! So along comes just a silly coincidence that nearly solves the deep state's problem. Puhleeeze...

465 So Very, Very Wrong. Killing Trump has always been an integral part of the democrats' campaign strategy, just like rigging the primaries for Biden to avoid a bruising primary season, then ambushing him with a non-medicated evening debate to set the stage for replacing him with Harris. Killing Trump days before the RNC effectively leaves the GOP without a candidate, so the Cackling California C***sucke cruises into the White House.

The highest levels of the US government were plotting this for months.

467 "The roof was too slopey and the weather was too hot."

Every roofing contractor in the nation begs to differ, even though OSHA reports that roofers have the highest fatality rate of all professions.

469 That's not what I saw at all. I can't find the better video where you can clearly hear the secret service agents, but there's one in command, giving orders and updates on when the tactical team for coverage arrives, when they all help Trump up, when they hear the shooter is down, when the limo is prepped and ready, and when the group is ready to move.

++++
I haven't seen/heard anything that included the verbal communication/orders.

I am fully open to being wrong.

471 If a Cabinet Secretary stiffs the House of Representatives, why doesn't the House use the power of the purse? Cut their budget 20% and ask the same question. If the Secretary still refuses to talk, or makes a public stink, 21%. If the president threatens a veto, 22% or nothing, president's choice. It was put in the Constitution for a reason!
