For whatever it's worth, he said that the CPUSA(d) line was longer. Just small straws in the wind. 1) Trump, Jr., big Vance guy, scheduled to speak right before the VP nominee, next Wed at the RNC Convention. 2) Trump saying the restrictive abortion law which Burgum just signed in ND, "might be a little bit of a problem." 3) Trump saying that he & Rubio both residing in FL was a "concern," (words to that effect). 4) The rally tomorrow night in Butler County, PA-- speculation he might name Vance from next door OH at the rally. There is a general principle of Commie armies. Generally they are filled with backwards people, since Communism retards progress. When they are tasked to invade a more advanced country, the invading army sees the wonders they were denied, and the army becomes politically unreliable. Communist armies invading more advanced countries is a bad idea, since 1920 and the Soviets in Poland. Plenty of other examples. Posted by: NaCly Dog at July 12, 2024 11:01 PM (u82oZ) All of the 1940s-1970s Vietnamese Communists lived for a time under French cultural influence. Perhaps they said to themselves after they took the South, "Say, do we have to be hard-core dogmatic Marxists living in concrete pre-fab apartment buildings and eating only subsistence-level amounts of pork, rice and soybeans, or can we have some of the good things in life while being pretend Communists?" I doubt the guv would run. I want the VP choice to be the one who brings the biggest dowry to the wedding. Other than that, I don't care very much. Vance has proven his appeal to blue collar, non-college voters in OH. The big 3 swingers (PA;WI;MI) have a disproportionately large # of such voters. I still think Trump must win one of those 3 to get to 270, imo. In 2022, which turned out to be a poor year for the GOP (the "red trickle" year), Vance won a seat that was considered a tossup by 6 points. Against Rep. Tim Ryan, who had been thought to be one of the DEMs' best candidates. In theory, Trump could lose all 3 of those & still get to 270, of course, but to do so he'd have to carry other states which he's LESS likely to win, i.e., MN & NH. I know you likely know this already. Plus, Vance is young-- 39, a nice contrast to Trump. I think he's awfully good on TV. He eats smug Karens alive. Finally, Trump loves him some surprises, so who knows? Doc T is right to point that out. However, after the Pence fiasco, he probably wants someone who is "ideologically aligned," as they say. Vance fits that definition. Posted by: mnw at July 12, 2024 11:20 PM (NLIak) 218

Posted by: NaCly Dog at July 12, 2024 11:16 PM (u82oZ) I had no significant damage. My patio gate needs repair after being pushed a bit inside-out by the wind. I had about 6 inches total of rain over 12 hours. No problem in my micro-neighborhood - it drains well. My power was out Monday only, from 5 AM to 4 PM. That was unexpected. Typically I do not lose power at all during tropical systems. The lines are buried in my area for this reason. One of my friends living about 5 miles distant in a built-up area is unfortunate like Hadrian and is still w/o power. He usually does not lose power in tropical storms either. Something strange on the grid-side occurred to have such a widespread outage from a fairly weak storm. No more trees and tree limbs were downed in my area than in previous storms. Hopefully some heads will deservedly roll. Posted by: Gref at July 12, 2024 11:31 PM (5fDan) 249

Good to hear. Wonder if grid maintenance efforts were curtailed to save money. My reference point was 11 inches of rain in one night. Lots of damage here, and a 22 month effort to get FEMA to pay for the repair of damage to my political bailiwick, which took $75,000 in damage in one night. Posted by: NaCly Dog at July 12, 2024 11:36 PM (u82oZ) Yowza! Sorry to hear that. I've learned neighborhood storm runoff drainage system capacity is the difference between no home flooding and home flooding. I was really surprised that the Baldwin case was dismissed WITH prejudice.
I could care less about Baldwin or the case. But that's a very unusual ruling. I don't see why the problem couldn't be easily cured in a second trial. (Again, I don't care one way or the other.) All I can figure was that the NM judge must've thought the misconduct bordered on intentional-- which it didn't sound like it was. My own policy was, "When in doubt, shovel it out." Immediately. If I got a piece of paper on Monday, the defense had it on Tuesday. That's why I didn't end up a civilian without a pension. Btw, I like "the armorer's" chances of getting HER conviction reversed now too. Like her chances A LOT. Posted by: mnw at July 12, 2024 11:49 PM (NLIak) 295

Btw, I like "the armorer's" chances of getting HER conviction reversed now too. Like her chances A LOT.
Posted by: mnw at July 12, 2024 11:49 PM (NLIak) I watched the trial, including the pretrial motions. The judge had enough of the lawyers, and ran a tight ship ( or tried to). Defense complained about not getting evidence ( a batch of bullets). Turns out the prosecutor hid the evidence under a different number than the trial number. The prosecutor literally was in the meeting where it was decided to do this. This potentially made her a witness, and she offered to cal herself to the stand. She took the stand, told her story, and was questioned by the defense. Turns out her 2nd chair, Erlinda Johnson, quit and walked out an hour before. After her testimony, Judge Mary declared the case dismissed with prejudice. Posted by: Deplorable Ian Galt at July 13, 2024 02:08 AM (ufFY8) 375
What was stupid was that the evidence wasn't really relevant to Baldwin's case. But, the shenanigans of the State, who have infinite resources, must be punished.
I think Baldwin is an asshole, and has some liability, but I would rather see fuckhead DAs and prosecutors be punished for bad behavior. Posted by: Deplorable Ian Galt at July 13, 2024 02:10 AM (ufFY8) 376

New Mexico requires CCW holders to recertify their ⁸license at the 2 year mark. Previously one was able to take an online test that reviewed the NM CCW laws. The Santa Fe communists, who hate guns and want ban them, decided to make this a hassle so they got rid of the online test and now require you to hire a CCW instructor and take firearm test. This now costs you $70.00. So instead of dreading slogging through the law which is actually a big deal CCW holders get to go to the range and get instruction on being better shots. This is called having a bunch of fun. I am sure the Santa Fe communists would be pissed off if they knew this.

I am off to sleep, Horde, but I will share a slip of the tongue.
For many years I worked in a bank and every Thursday I had a customer named Mr. Filet, very nice guy, wore a beret and was very genteel. One evening I greeted him with "Hey, Mr. Fish", he was not amused. Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz at July 13, 2024 02:24 AM (Sgq8y) 381

I think Baldwin is an asshole, and has some liability, but I would rather see fuckhead DAs and prosecutors be punished for bad behavior. Posted by: Deplorable Ian Galt As I understand matters, the Santa Fe cops received a bunch of ammo from the crime scene they missed during their investigation. When it came time to prosecute the armorer and Baldwin, the SF cops had listed them under a different case number so they would be missed during discovery and for extra credit the prosecutors did not disclose this evidence. The judge in both trials is the same and when Baldwin's attys discovered the judge was cool as ice but red hot livid. When this ammo finally showed up on court the Judge put on rubber gloves and examed every round with the shitty CSI person standing right there having to answer lots of ugly questions. Case was dismissed with prejudice The armorer on appeal just might win because of this. Posted by: Alteria Pilgram at July 13, 2024 02:30 AM (2maI5) 383

105 One key to running a HOA is to ask the person bringing you the problem to be in charge of the solution. Some oversight may be needed.
Depends on the issue, but always try neighbor to neighbor first. In my HOA we had a lot of Hill Rats that droned on about process. I had a short answer for those dweebs.
