Under parade regulations adopted by the chamber board this year, “Symbols associated with specific political movements, religions, or ideologies” were unacceptable. [Linda Coppess, chamber president and CEO,] wrote that in the past, the chamber received numerous complaints about displays that people found offensive, including “Confederate flags, derogatory illustrations, harsh politically-based language, and graphic photographs.” Coppess wrote that last year alone, she received over 50 complaints about different signage and symbols that were deemed offensive. To address those concerns, the chamber consulted national organizations to ensure its guidelines were transparent and fair, she wrote. “Our intention with this policy was simple: to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and respected,” Coppess wrote. The chamber listed several other things as unacceptable for the parade, including signs promoting controversial political issues, displays containing divisive or inflammatory language related to political debates and signs displaying slogans or messages that incite political division or unrest. [emphasis mine] Within days the chamber was overwhelmed with thousands of complaints from local citizens, most of whom appeared to be especially offended by the ban of religious symbols. As a result, the chamber backed down partly, rescinding that particular restriction. Below is a short clip from the July 4th Coeur d’Alene parade. As you can see, a lot of people came carrying crosses. I suspect they would have been there whether or not the religious ban was rescinded, expressing defiance. However, in the country, we don’t know what the KDH engine is either, with a completely new type of injection that we are not used to. They have just unveiled the next generation, and the world is on tenterhooks while we are still watching for Tesla. The prototype runs on zero-emission fuel (and yes, remember, it’s combustion)—that’s why experts are talking about a “new era”. This fuel was predicted 100 years ago: Now, it has been used on an engine prototype Ammo Vending Machines a Big Hit at Alabama Grocery Stores The company American Rounds has actually installed their automated ammunition vending machines in six grocery stores; four in Oklahoma and two in Alabama, where the machines have drawn the interest of local media (and local politicians) in places like Tuscaloosa. During a briefing of the Tuscaloosa City Council before their regular slate of meetings, city council president Kip Tyner asked police chief Brent Blankley and other municipal leaders to explain a vending machine selling people ammunition at the Fresh Value store on at the corner of Skyland and McFarland Boulevards. "I got some calls about ammunition being sold in grocery store vending machines," Tyner said. "I thought it was a joke, but it's not." O’Donnell said that it would be good to “Allow the candidates to have as many staff as they want, join them on the stage throughout the debate, and make sure that all of them have microphones.” He added that “the candidates should be allowed to turn to their staff and confer with them about anything at any time in the debate.” “And we should be able to hear everything they say. So we can hear if the candidate has competent or incompetent staff, we could hear the candidate overrule some advisers and say something else,” he continued. “We could watch the candidates actually think and process information, including including possibly information that they might not know until a staff member tells them or reminds them,” O’Donnell further suggested. He continued, “A candidate should be allowed to let staff members actually answer questions for them.” A leap of faith. That is innovative, but it is still a standard Democratic trope for blaming all the mentally ill people on the street in major cities on Ronald Reagan. You see, Reagan deinstitutionalized the mentally ill forty years ago, and he cast a magic spell that kept Democrats from reversing Reagan's decisions, even when they were in power. I remember Leno was big on the future of hydrogen as a fuel. And they are right, the only byproduct is water (although water vapor is also a "greenhouse gas").
There are two problems though, last I heard it does not have equivalent BTU to the same volume of gasoline, making it difficult to store enough fuel in the vehicle. Also the infrastructure to replace the gas stations is completely different. Requires 100% replacement of what is out there now. The last point is the same problem EVs have, but at least you can recharge them at home, so they have a commuter use. I am compelled, by forces that arise from the unfettered vastness of the universe, to observe that Lawrence O'Donnell's suggestions for the debate are not compelling or sagacious. At times, when I harken back to the storied days of the Hanseatic League, I am assailed with a thought that demands an answer - is Lawrence O'Donnell brazen enough to try to rig the debates in favor of a decrepit president a prince of his own party's disorder? And, if he is, does he do so as a partisan, a patriot, or simply as a gay man?
Probably that. A weak, gay man, a nancy-boy who mistakes reading remarks before a camera for an accomplishment, a feat, a deed of renown. Yet outside the studio lights the void looms, the negation of all folly and the bane of even the best make-up artist. I am sorry - I noted the entry in the ONT and was compelled to comment. This is something of a tradition within your country, yes. I was told that if you "see something," that you should "say something." I thus engage in good faith. International trade has long been a central issue in economic science. The traditional theory posits that "different countries have different circumstances, and therefore their people tend to produce different goods. It was the latest and perhaps most significant stop in a multi-state tour for Newsom. “I decided instead of just rolling over and giving up, that I would step up and pick up the fight,” Newsom told reporters at a highway rest stop in his first public appearance in the state. I've been thinking about the whole Biden situation, I have an opinion on what is going on.
I know this is probably too white pill for most, I get it. I'm not offended. The people who are trying to get Biden out are the insiders and the office holders. Tester issued a statement after Jill Biden's letter went out saying effectively "put up or shut up". The way this is all going down tells me that the DC crowd knows Biden is going to lose, and there are not enough dirty tricks in the bag to overcome Trump's lead. The lawfare was Plan A, and the illegals voting was Plan B, and they just don't have the votes. Also, down ballot races are in danger, since most of those don't benefit from urban machine cheating. The seats in those areas are safe. But rank and file Democrats that voted in the primaries, and are rabidly infected with TDS? They actually believe Biden won legitimately in 2020. I've talked to many of them over the last 3 years, and they think we are insane for thinking that the country didn't vote to get rid of Orange Man Bad. So, they don't see the danger, and believe that Joe really can win, if the elites would just stop undermining Biden and get back to Trump's lies. Good observations on Hydrogen, Dave in Fla. of course it works as a fuel, it always has. The problem is always producing , transporting, storing, and delivering it to the end user. Non technical people don’t realize how easy liquid fuels are to use compared to any gaseous fuel.
Posted by: Tom Servo at July 08, 2024 10:37 PM (S6gqv) There was a German design that decomposed Aluminum in an alkaline solution to generate both hydrogen and electric charge, it only generated H and electrons on demand. Carbide looks a little like gunpowder. It is a substance that produces acetylene gas in the presence of water. The carbide cannon has a reservoir for both water and carbide, and then meters a small amount each time the cannon is to be set off. A flint sparker provides the source of the ignition.

I've talked to many of them over the last 3 years, and they think we are insane for thinking that the country didn't vote to get rid of Orange Man Bad. The last point is the same problem EVs have, but at least you can recharge them at home, so they have a commuter use. Posted by: Dave in Fla at July 08, 2024 10:24 PM (5p7BC) Energy density of hydrogen fuel sucks sloth dick. And the stuff will leak out of any container you put it in. The best use of hydrogen, if you're going to burn it as a fuel, is to blend it into natural gas to make a cooler fuel. Forget using it in passenger automobiles. That's the most difficult engineering problem to solve, but there are much easier ones.
I've seen projects (mostly just on the drawing board, not real ones) to use wind turbines to generate electricity to electrolyze water to make hydrogen for combustion. If that's what you want to do, it's stupid to integrate the two things. Use the wind turbines to make electricity for the grid and use electricity from the grid to electrolyze water to make hydrogen. The wind turbines and the hydrogen electrolysis are two completely different processes. Posted by: Caesar North of the Rubicon at July 08, 2024 11:31 PM (r5tfK) 272

In VT, people sir quietly in their lawn chairs and wait for the show. Lions park, on the other hand, was pretty crowded with lots of kids and lots of personal fireworks. There were Roman candles going off in the middle if crowds with no care given about where they might land. There were firecrackers and bottle rockets and bigger things being set off. It was a lot of fun. I did see one of the larger personal fireworks go sideways. Two of its salves went horizontal right into people on blankets. No real damage done, soevwryone remained calm and more fireworks ensued. Posted by: 496 at July 08, 2024 11:42 PM (1/Gvq) 300

A couple of decades ago, batteries sucked and hydrogen looked like a good bet for the future. But batteries are good enough now for cars, pickup trucks, and semis. Even for airplanes, hydrogen is too much of a pain. It will be a long time before we stop using fossil fuel for airplanes, if ever, but it will be synthetic "e-fuel" before hydrogen. The worst of all worlds is the hydrogen V8 engine. Just a solution looking for a problem. Posted by: mr_jack at July 08, 2024 11:51 PM (LNPSJ) 333

Posted by: Caesar North of the Rubicon at July 08, 2024 11:31 PM (r5tfK) Well, making hydrogen by electrolysis is the expensive way to do it. But if you are stuck on stupid , using wind turbines is the best way. Wind blows: you make H2, and store it in pressure vessels. Wind stops: you stop making H2, and sell off some the stored shit. A lot easier than trying make the grid cope with an erratic source of generation. But hydrogen will always be a shitty fuel. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at July 08, 2024 11:54 PM (N75JG) 343

As a consequence he predicted that many days a year there will be lots of cheap surplus power available.
So maybe the "e-fuel" jet fuel plant will only run on cheap energy days. Where I live now is basically a temperate rain forest. I initially thought it was primeval forest, because it's so luscious. It isn't. Southern Appalachia was effectively deforested by about a century ago - thanks to wood-hungry European shipbuilders. Even in the age of steam, they still required huge amounts of American wood for staterooms.

I admit, yet again, that I was wrong in my original prediction the Chicago DemCon would be a nothingburger and a coronation by the geriatric SDS alumni that rule Chicago. I did not foresee Gaza and did not foresee Marilyn Katz, the de facto Chairman of the SDS Politburo, kicking the bucket. Nor did I foresee the Biden situation.
Even with the other two factors, Katz could have kept it all under control but without her in place, there is a struggle for primacy within the Chicago Politburo, with Mike Klonsky screaming for Palestinian Terror and blood in the streets, Helen Schiller backing Black Violence, Ayers and Dohrn doing God knows what, and nobody in charge. So, I revise my prediction from 'Nothingburger' to 'Mindblowing Shitshow'. On the plus side, if it's overcast, I should be able to see the glow from my yard! If I had to guess, since Schiller in the 46th Ward is known for obviously running the current alderwoman, Angela Clay, having been caught 'advising' her on numerous occasions despite not being officially in any political position anymore, that the preference in Chicago, Obama's bastion, is for Kamala Harris. The Chicago SDS is long 'allied' with the 'former' Black Panther Party, that is, the SDS provides the money through their contacts and positions and backs Black Radicalism. Katz would have expected Biden to step down for Harris, but now Katz is dead. The SDS doesn't give a shit that Harris is an idiot, they're used to playing puppeteer to pig-ignorant Black figureheads.

Modern American libraries have become kind of a sad joke, and that is not good. I don’t know why they gave up shushing that was the Lingua Franca of libraries, you are supposed to be quiet.
Yes, we blame everything on DEI, but in this case DEI really is to blame. Library associations decided shushing was punishing loud cultures and blah blah blah. Also, most city libraries now are gathering places for the homeless and the mentally ill. There are regular fights, drug use, and let’s just say, awkward behavior, often in the restrooms. There have been several write ups in the press about this, but not enough to change anything. To be honest, I feel for the librarians who wanted to be bookworms, doing a quiet job with low stress. It turns out many of them now have to focus n security, and take on jobs better left to professionals in substance abuse, homelessness, and other societal problems. I really respect library staff for what they put up with and how they do it and generally in such a happy way. But it does bother me that even library staff talk at an almost yelling volume these days. The loud talking is not just kids, it is also adults, including staff. Historians say we have better records on ancient Rome then we do of the American old West. The reason is an ancient Rome they wrote down records they left a written record of their life in the world. In the old west of the late 1800s for the most part, they did not. That is why there is so much so-called history of the old West that is mostly labeled as fiction because they don’t have the written records to back it up.
