BTW, Atherton did a lot of commercial work like magazine covers and such. I believe CBD used on of his paintings before. It showed a wall of a fishing shack with the day's catch, a rod and reel and some of the lures and classic plugs. It was wonderfully homey and nostalgic.

Only 35 students enrolled in Douglass Academy High School for the 2023-2024 school year, but the building can hold over 900 students.
Logic would say it should be closed, but the Chicago Teachers Union prohibits closing it and other underused schools. In fact, CTU sees the 23 staffers at Douglass as inadequate.
CTU’s new contract demands would put at least eight additional staff members in the school. That would mean 31 staff members for 35 students.
Douglass already spends over $68,000 per student. All that money and all that potential staff attention, yet it failed to produce even a single student who was proficient in either reading or math on a recent SAT.

Having taught: I do not think so. There is a TRS in TX (Teacher's Retirement System) but that exists for teachers, union or not. There might be separate union bennies but I don't know about them because I am so anti-union I refuse to join ANY teacher's union. Even when some colleagues were adamant that I do so.
Yes, the poor, poor teachers. Like cops, many do side hustles, like drive buses for the district for extra money, or participate in other school related activities for extra money. I am about a month and a half in? It all blends together.
This is only the second night(?) taking it. I am just having a huge amount of trouble getting on the shift. Try to go to bed at the same time, will start to nod off (get the floaty feeling and start imagining weird shit) then start and be wide awake. Then be awake for another few hours.
Tried Benadryl (works, but not fun.) ZZzzQuil (not great.) Exhaustion by working out. Relaxing rain sounds. Nothing seems to be a sure thing every time. A fan just keeps me awake.

That was my favorite thing about the internet at the beginning. I loved that no matter where you went - could be a chocolate chip cookie forum - you could find people arguing to the death. It got tiresome eventually with everyone needing to "own" everyone else and with the general IQ trending down.

Few tips, make your room as absolutely dark as you can possibly achieve during sleep and keep it friggin cold enough for icicles. Both induce sleep.
When leaving your batcave, have the rest of your digs with very bright lights to kick in natural day/night cycling.
Milk and milk products also help induce sleep before bed and stop all electronic device use including TV about thirty minutes before bed. If sleepless for more than 30-40 minutes, get up, read the most boring shit possible (I read firearm and material science manuals to a time until sleepy again) and then try again to sleep.
I have been rated as having severe sleep issues due to med issues and as a result have spent quite a bit of time with docs about how to alleviate it.

I know you're not supposed to do the blue light thing before bed but ace's advice about putting an episode of comedy on that you enjoy but know almost by heart is FANTASTIC.
Maybe the best fall asleep advice I've ever heard.
Everyone is different but it's worth a try. Needs to be comedy so it's not engrossing.

Thanks. I have got the dark thing going with blackout curtains plus a blanket for the area over the curtains. The electronic usage probably is also a contributing factor.

Had to deal with real life stalkers on occasion for my students and they are 9/10 more likely to be harmless nuts. But that ten percent can literally be killer. Because I spent time as advisor for student groups and was accessible, I was a witness to the fact that a) a lot of students use drugs--illegal and legal, b) coping skills deteriorated notably during my career. I think social media and the internet along with cell phones have created a crippled generation in the West.
