The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“I would like my children to be independent and feel comfortable going outside and playing and they won’t" Homeowner Robin Bach

Quote II

“VW top managers who absolutely want to drive a Porsche can also afford one privately.” Unnamed VW board member

Quote III

“I think President Biden, politically, is as dead as fried chicken. He can now quit, he can be replaced — let me just finish my thought,” Kennedy said as McEnany began to respond. “Or he can run and lose. You can’t successfully run for president of the United States when your campaign slogan is, ‘I’m only senile some of the time,’ as one commentator pointed out today.” Sen John Kennedy (R-LA)

Even libs know a good state to be in when it comes to finances and taxes.

Jeff Bezos keeps selling Amazon stock after announcing his move out of Washington state

The news this week that Jeff Bezos plans to sell more Amazon stock is another reminder of the tech mogul’s move away from Washington state — and the debate over its capital gains tax.

A new regulatory filing shows that the Amazon founder plans to sell 25 million Amazon shares worth about $5 billion. This comes after he sold 50 million shares worth around $8.5 billion earlier this year.

Bezos announced in November that he was leaving his longtime hometown of Seattle, where Amazon is based, and moving to Miami.

The relocation sparked questions about Washington state’s capital gains tax, passed in 2021, which imposes a 7% tax on any gains of more than $262,000 from the sale of stocks and bonds. Florida does not have a capital gains tax.

Bezos saved more than $600 million by moving to Miami and avoiding Washington’s capital gains tax, CNBC reported in February, based on his sale of 50 million shares earlier this year.

The state of EV charging in America: Harvard research shows chargers 78% reliable and pricing like the ‘Wild West’

BiGS Actionable Intelligence:
A pioneering scholarly review of 1 million EV charging station consumer reviews, led by a Harvard Business School fellow, reveals widespread dissatisfaction with the current state of EV charging infrastructure. Among other things, the deep dive into tomorrow’s gas station network estimates that drivers can successfully recharge their cars using non-residential EV equipment only 78% of the time, highlighting critical issues with reliability. The problems suggest there are business opportunities for entrepreneurs.

1 I spent the afternoon trying to figure out the results of the French election. As I suspected, the headlines are misleading.

When the media talks about the "surprise win by the left", what they are talking about is the leftist coalition. This is 3 or 4 aligned parties that include socialists, communists, and greens.

Then you have the establishment that is Macron's party and 2 others that are "centrist" that currently form the government.

Finally you have Le Pen's party RN, who is aligned with another two parties, one of which is barely on the map, maybe 10 seats.

The results today are:
Left - 182 seats
Centrist - 163 seats
Right - 143 seats

Sounds bad, correct?

But if you dig into the details, the situation is a bit different. The guy making all the noise today, demanding he take power immediately is Melenchon of the France Unbowed party. But they only won 74 seats.

In contrast, the "losers" today, RN, won 125 seats, making it the largest single party in parliament.

The problem is that you need 289 seats to form a majority, and no single bloc got there. Supposedly Macron has to choose a prime minister from the largest receiver of votes, but does that mean the leftist bloc?

The problem is that you need 289 seats to form a majority, and no single bloc got there. Supposedly Macron has to choose a prime minister from the largest receiver of votes, but does that mean the leftist bloc? Macron has said in the past that he won't choose Melenchon, and to me his claim seems a little suspect. He is the largest party from the largest bloc, but he doesn't represent the largest party.

Anyway, expect some chaos, but don't expect the leftist agenda to get implemented in France just yet. RN should have enough power to grind things to a halt until the Presidential election in 2027.

Finally, I saw a map that I am not sure is correct. But it showed that RN won in every part of France, except Paris. There aren't even tiny pockets. France is one big blue RN bloc, with Paris in the middle. They kind of regional divide is going to cause a lot of friction.

59 According to the Democrats' own outlets (i.e., the media), the next 2-3 days could be very bad for Biden Corp.

Axios reports that "sh*t is going to hit the fan" tomorrow when Congress reconvenes and Dems start talking to each other about the effect Biden's having on their own races.

Meanwhile, CNN says that the party's congressional caucus meeting on Tuesday will likely be a turning point; a lot of Dems who haven't yet spoken out publicly (Jerry Nadler being one example) will do so in the caucus.

At least according to these reports, a major faction in the party is now determined not only to get Biden out, but get him out by Friday.

84 I know everyone hates the Libertarians becauses the people they used to do drugs with their beach friends betrayed them, but this is funny

The Libertarian Party of Colorado has formally endorsed Robert F Kennedy Jr over the LP candidate Chase Oliver. Apparently this is a big FU to the Pragmatists who managed to nominate Oliver as the national LP Presidential candidate

“As part of this partnership, the Libertarian Party of Colorado will place the Kennedy/Shanahan ticket on the Colorado state ballot for president and vice president,” the party said in a statement. “This move reflects our commitment to offering voters a choice that transcends the traditional partisan divide and promotes individual liberty, personal responsibility, and limited government.”

I haven't seen credible claims of voter fraud in that sense (yet).

What's actually happened--and I noted this last Monday--is the open collaboration between Macron's "centrist" faction and the far-Left New Popular Front, one throwing its votes to the other in a given constituency (based on which had the best chance of winning) to prevent the National Rally candidate from getting a majority.

They're relying mostly on gaming the system against Le Pen and company. As usual.

He does have to go along with it. If he refuses, they are SOL. He won the primaries and the delegates are bound to him. They have to vote for him first round, and then he is the nominee, nothing they can do about it.

The only option they have if he resigns is for Kamala to take over. Even if she does, it is too late to get her on the ballot in WI and NV. The WI supreme court will probably make up some new law, but per state law the only legal candidate is Biden.

Nevada will go to Trump by default.

They have to make it happen this week, because soon the window in other states close as well. Going to be really hard to win an election when you don't even have a candidate on the ballot.

I think all the Hollywood types don't understand the ballot access laws, they are so blinded by TDS and polls that they don't see they are going to make it worse.

I still think that Jeffries is figuring Biden or Harris is going to lose, so try to limit the damage and take advantage of the fact that Trump is more popular than Republicans. Get people to split tickets.

His motivation is really holding onto pardon power until they wrap up the IRS trial for Hunter. Then he can pardon Hunter to reduce the risk for Hunter flipping on him.

Ironically, the immunity decision is probably going to help Biden.

Joe Biden has never cared about anyone but himself, why would he start now?

Way too often the left is assumed to have super powers that make the unbeatable. They are just another in an endless line of corrupt mobs that will inevitably walk themselves into a box canyon no matter how much power they control. They just did.

Trump is about as flawed a candidate as we have ever had other than a few unique traits. He's got an assload of money, he's much smarter than people give him credit, he's obviously not corrupt and he will never stop fighting. Not ever.

I don't see what incentive there is to leave.

They cheated their way into office, and there's no reason to abandon an unfair race in general, or in this case in particular being that other Dems aren't really any more popular.

Everyone has known that Joe is a turnip for a long time. Only two types were unwilling to acknowledge it: liars and people who wanted to be lied to. The debate wasn't a revelation, it was an op.

You just made my point.

In 2020 Trump got more votes than any sitting president in US history. Even more the Chocolate Jesus. And nobody was cheating for Trump.

Stop looking at media polls and look at what you can see with your own eyes. Trump drew thousands to his rally in Chesapeake, VA after the rally. Virginia is the home of the swamp and I have been told he has no chance to win.

Biden drew maybe 100 in his "home state" of Pennsylvania the other day.

But if you want to believe only polls.

>>Perhaps most troubling for Biden: 51% of respondents said they now approve of Trump's job performance when he was president from 2017 to 2021, compared to 41% who said they approve of Biden's current job performance.

383 Hi Nightwatch

I'm no expert, but since nobody is stepping up, I'll attempt an explanation for my fellow commiefornian.

A 'sock' as it were, is when someone makes a post and also changes their name, usually to something relevant to the post. For example: Were I to comment about Biden's campaign prospects, for example, by writing 'He's dead Jim' and change my nic to 'Dr. McCoy', I would be using a sock.

Note your nic (name) stays changed unless you repost using another name, hence you see people posting 'off sock' lest they forget to change their name back, as I have done.

In the above example one would subsequently post 'off Star Trek TOS sock' under one's usual name or nic.

Hope this helps.

Of course.

Stop believing the bulllshit of the moronic media.

I just gave you proof that his approval rating his job approval rating has grown in media polls to 51%. And that's in the leftwing USA Today media poll.

Now your turn, what do you think is going to happen in the next 5 months to make it go down? Do you see Joe's brain getting better? Kamala actually not being a horrific joke?

If you voted for Trump then you know his record. I'm pretty confident people will look even fonder at that over the next few months when they see the alternative.

402 A "sock" is a sock puppet. You put it on to post "as" someone, usually to deliver a bogus "line" from them. (Or, sometimes, a real line.)

It is very not cool to "sock" as an actual poster here, unless you make it very funny and very obvious it's not really them. (For an inside joke, for example.) The socking of an actual poster is why the hashes were implemented by Pixy - so you could tell them from the real person.

406 Got some more or less useful stuff done today. Finished assembling an antique light plant that I offered to donate to a museum. I think it was a backup for a wind charger; 110 volts DC, at 27 amps. The sucker runs, and the output voltage crept up to 30 volts. It probably needs to be connected to a load or a battery bank to make full output. It was a trip to hear it run and watch it make smoke. It doesn't have to ever work again.

I replaced the ballast in one of the 2-lamp 48" fixtures over my workbench, and now I have light in the middle again. Old ballast was toast, alright.

And I am about half-way through the engine swap on Dixon mower #1. Old, dead Kawasaki engine is off it, and external accessories like starter and alternator are on the new block, and it is about ready to go in the frame.

I never said you were a Democrat troll or anything of the kind. I also think you give away your objectivity when say idiotic things like accusing anyone who disagrees with your analysis by accusing them of believing Trump is Jesus. Ace made that mistake by accusing anyone who supported Trump over DeSantis and that didn't work out so well.

Although I do like the Trump cult robe.

Trump was winning the RCP average of polls you noted before the debate. In other words, he was beating Biden and every other potential Democrat handily as I'm sure you know. As I noted, Trump's job approval has since risen in the USA Today job approval rating. It might not have shifted the entire RCP average yet but I bet other polls will help.

So where is your evidence that any Democrat will poll better? Do you have those RCP averages? I mean the RCP polls are entirely made up of leftwing media influenced voters so surely that will be easy for you to produce.

The light plant was apparently built in the 1940's. It's a Briggs and Stratton model ZZP engine. Even the flywheel shroud is cast iron. And the doggone thing started with one tug on the rope today. Blows a lot of fumes out the crankcase vent, too. New rings would probably cure that. But it's going to be given to a museum, and I doubt they will ever want to run it at all. But I had fun playing with it. Scrounged it out of the town dump for nothing, a decade ago or more.

Monday fast approaches. The fallout from The Potatus' interview performance with George Snuffleupagus, the MSM Interview Questions (submitted for approval, or not?), and various other questions (e.g., Is it time for a 25th A action?) start doing a Dresden on the Democrats.

I think it's likely that Joe will have to step aside/be forced to withdraw, and Jill will be sedated. Will the WH puppet masters will be able to keep Joe propped up through January, avoiding a few months of Girl Boss Idiocy and Failure by Kammie. I can't see Joe winning, even with massive cheating; it wouldn't be believable.

I'm seeing an increasing amount of talk about Kammie, mostly from activists and other whack jobs. Remember Kammie's job history: Willie Brown. She's unpopular, and her amazing oratory (Venn diagrams) should be enough to stop her. But, she's a D.

Can Nancy Pelosi's Nephew successfully filch the nomination from Kammie? Nancy Pelosi's Nephew is far smarter and more dangerous than Kammie. BUt, all the Greasy Kid Stuff ...

Who is left? I recall that Jimmuh Carter was a completely unexpected nominee, and Whitmer and Hochul come to mind.

Perhaps Monday will be the start of Chicago 68 Redux.

It seems to be a generational thing - my in-laws won't even consider medium-rare or even medium steak. They don't add the ketchup. but I've known many in that age group who do.

There were more than a few folk from their demographic who put ketchup on their fried eggs - I'm not sure whether that persists with those born later.

Quaker Instant Grits work well for me - the serving side is about right for an individual meal. The alternate flavors they offer, though, not sure about those.

Hush Puppies are awesome even in quick preparation form. The key thing is the size. Even in a state as small as Mississippi, there are differing ideas about what constitutes a Hush Puppy. I always assumed that the fairly large, deep-fried variety I was accustomed to were the norm, but down in Mrs. Drake's former hometown in Jackson, Hush Puppies are slightly bigger than marble-sized and difficult to chew. And she and her folks were shocked to hear anybody cooked them differently. I don't know if it was a carry-over from the Gulf Coast or from Louisiana, but quite different indeed.

462 To me, the quintessence of the Hush Puppy is creating something akin to corn bread dipped and deep-fried in batter. If it's done right, then either mustard or ketchup can work as a condiment. Corndogs could be a good point of reference here, I think.
