Regarding Pizza - I bought two large one topping pizzas today and went to pick them up. When I get there, there is a board up announcing a Manager's special - two large, two topping pizzas for $10.99 each. However, I was asked to pay $32.00 for my order as I didn't qualify for the Manager's Special (apparently regular price). I bitched about it but paid and left after getting no satisfaction from the cashier.

With all this 25th Amendment talk I said hey you know instead of just talking about it on the internet not knowing anything at all why don't I read the dang thing and see what it's all about?
Well. Let me just say that it would be a shit show. It doesn't remove the President from office just takes his powers. But the President can say hey I am okay give them back. So the VP and Cabinet have 4 days to agree or not. If they agree he gets them back. If not they can say no, he's still not capable. Then it goes to Congress and 2/3 of BOTH houses have to agree that he's not capable. But he still remains in the office of President. Just the powers devolve to the VP as Acting President. Or if they don't vote that way it goes back to the President. Posted by: blaster at July 05, 2024 10:13 PM (cvZX6) 29

Ole Bill Harrison died in less than a month, he never even really served as president. One of the best rated by historians I'm sure.
But it created a test of the new system, because nobody really anticipated it fully. Tyler, the VP, said he was President, not "acting" President. He didn't think he needed to swear an oath having already done so, but he was persuaded to do so. And then he moved into the White House and that kind of settled the issue. Sort of. Memes are anti-intellectualism.
There is more Truth in a funny meme than in fifty thousand words of masturbatory dreck cribbed by a fake professor, full of footnoted references to Marcuse and Derrida that don't even have anything to do with the text, and hinging entirely (to the extent it is even coherent) upon some preposterous monstrosity like the Labor Theory of Value or the Bongwater Theory of Unicorn Farts. Posted by: Some Rat - We had a car show recently where a Tesla owner parked his car with a fancy sign talking about how it was the fastest sedan on earth and this that and the other. Not one single person did much beyond laugh as they passed. I decided that part of the problem is that you can't simultaneously insist that EVs are boring everyday commuters like a Honda Accord and everyone could drive one pain-free *and* they're something special to be admired like the slower but gorgeous and exhilarating Porsche GT3 parked next to it. Not to mention people who like car shows are usually interested in cars. Golf cars with funny cartoons painted on the back are slightly popular if the cartoon is clever enough, but that's about as far as it goes for golf carts unless they're 4x4 or something really unusual. The VA was still paying widow's benefits to a couple civil war spouses till not all that long ago. The way it used to work, a soldier's pension was transferable. So a 99 year old war veteran would "marry" a 17 year old or somesuch.
Lew Rockwell published a neat story by somebody once, something something about the "Greek Order of Water Carriers" or something like that. This was basically a group that formed a kind of labor union about 1000 years ago. Nobody is carrying water down from the moutains any longer, but the inherited pension system of retirment benefits was still chugging along, somehow. Flipped over to CNN about five minutes ago to see the post-interview wake. And it was that, combined with a bit of whistling past the graveyard. Not surprising, obviously, but there was one thing that caught my attention.
When they went to commercial, the first one was hyping Dr. Sanjay Gupta's upcoming special on dementia, cognitive decline, and Alzheimer's. The next up was promoting medications to help with memory loss. I think that may be the clearest indicator of where CNN is at as the Biden drama unfurls. Went on a bit of road trip today. Drove to friend's place about 50 miles from here, car trailer in tow, and loaded up two old riding mowers that he gave to me. One is a Dixon ZTR, similar to the one I have with bad engine. It starts and runs, but will need some servicing to be a reliable mower. The other is a small John Deere, that's in pieces. For parts.
I decked the trailer at his place, and continued on in to Calgary to do some shopping that had to be done/ Stampeded is on, and, of course, many streets are torn up because the water system is crippled, due to lack of proper maintenance by a series of dumbass muslim mayors. Current one is a woman named Coyote Bulldyke, or something close to that. But I persevered, and got my shopping done, headed back out, picked up the trailer, and made it home. We watched the 2005 version of The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe this afternoon, and one line *had* to have been written by an American. It's near the beginning, and Susan tries to comfort Lucy by saying, "The war won't last forever." And she's saying this as a Brit, the country that was one of two main belligerents of the Hundred Years War. It was jarring, but I'll forgive one historical misstep in an otherwise great movie. There are actually some things that the movie does better than the book, which I know is heresy to say as an English Major, but it's still true.

- I get the sentiment, but in reality it's not so bad regarding coolant. Theres three kinds. Most all modern cars use some sort of OAT. Yeah the different manufacturers have different colors, but they're all more or less the same makeup. Except Dodge. They use HOAT. Because Mooar. Fhen there's IAT, which is what everyone with a classic ar is used to. The green stuff. There is a universal fluid available that you can mix with fhe others and not gel everything up. I maintain a family fleet of 1984 to 2014 year GM, Mopar, FoMoCo, and a BMW. For fluid flush I'll use what the manual says to use, For top-offs I buy the yellow universal stuff that mixes with all the others. Posted by: reason at July 06, 2024 12:53 AM (cW4hp) 387

Today was a scorcher. I hit the highest yet, 98.4F with my station. We're in "moderate drought" (D1 level) now. We had a little thundershower this afternoon, hitting a little after 6PM, and I got 0.28" out of it. Looking, GSP airport set a daily record, 100.9F, beating the old July 5th record of 99F. That's a relatively low high for July records. Most of the other days are 100 - 103F level, so this puts the 5th record in line with that. July 1, 2012 was also the all-time high for GSP, 107F. I remember that one. We're also flirting with highest lows are well for these dates, but won't quite make it. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at July 06, 2024 01:54 AM (w6EFb) 426
When that shower hit, the temp dropped 15F from 91F down to 75F in less than 30 minutes, and then got down to 73Fish. That beat the early morning low. This pretty oddball, when the daily lows occur in the late afternoon, not early morning. That early morning low was just a smidge lower than the highest low record for the 5th, but dropping it down after the shower pushed the daily low well below for me.
