The Saturday Night Joke

A Pastor entered his donkey in a race and it won. The Pastor was so pleased with the donkey that he entered it in the race again and it won again.

The local paper read: PASTOR'S ASS OUT FRONT.

The Bishop was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered the Pastor not to enter the donkey in another race.
The next day the local paper headline read: BISHOP SCRATCHES PASTOR'S ASS.

This was too much for the Bishop so he ordered the Pastor to get rid of the donkey. The Pastor decided to give it to a Nun in a nearby convent.

The local paper, hearing of the news, posted the following headline the next day: NUN HAS BEST ASS IN TOWN.

The Bishop fainted. He informed the Nun that she would have to get rid of the donkey so she sold it to a farm for $10.

The next day the paper read: NUN SELLS ASS FOR $10

This was too much for the Bishop so he ordered the Nun to buy back the donkey and lead it to the plains where it could run wild.
The next day the headlines read: NUN ANNOUNCES HER ASS IS WILD AND FREE.

The Bishop was buried the next day.

The moral of the story is . . . being concerned about public opinion can bring you much grief and misery and even shorten your life.
So be yourself and enjoy life.

Stop worrying about everyone else's ass and just cover your own !!!
You'll be a lot happier and live longer! (H/T Ciampino)

The ONT Is Always Looking Out For You TM

It used to be that if you noticed something weird around you, there would be some kind of funny story to it, but nowadays if you see something strange, it always seems like that means you are in danger. There have been warnings shared on social media about how finding a water bottle on your car or discovering "1F" written outside of your home could be a sign that you might be victimized, and now comes an even odder warning - if you find a piece of cheese on your car you might be in danger.

It all comes down to how all the bad people in the world keep coming up with new ways to abduct potential victims, and one woman is warning others after she found the dairy product on her vehicle. The woman, named Mimi, shared her story on TikTok, saying it is "for all my ladies out there." In it, Mimi explains how she came out of church one Sunday to find cheese melted on her car. Likely thinking it was just some kids' prank, she called up a friend to help her scrape it all off, but when her friend arrived, a white van with men in it two parking spots down from her pulled out and went to a lot across they street, where they seemingly parked so they could watch the women clean off the cheese

What Were We Thinking? The Top 10 Most Dangerous Ads

Often the criticism of vintage ads focuses on their inherent sexism, racism, or other displays of social prejudices, which we find laughable today, despite their continued presence. But what about ads that steered consumers into dangerous territory, espousing outmoded scientific evidence or misleading half-truths to convince people that appallingly toxic products, or even deadly ones, were actually good for them?

While some faulty campaigns were merely the victims of evolving scientific knowledge, many blatantly ignored facts in their race for the dollar, using so-called experts to promote products terrible for public health, like cigarettes. Revered professionals like doctors and scientists routinely told us precisely the wrong things to do, as they are likely still doing today.

97,000 complaints sounds like a lot. But if you do the math (And you don't have to since it is The ONT) that's only 265 complaints per day. Leave it to Uncle Sam to botch it up.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Air travel got more miserable last year, if the number of consumer complaints filed with the U.S. government is any measure.

The Transportation Department said Friday that it received nearly 97,000 complaints in 2023, up from about 86,000 the year before. The department said there were so many complaints that it took until July to sort through the filings and compile the figures.

That’s the highest number of consumer complaints about airlines since 2020, when airlines were slow to give customers refunds after the coronavirus pandemic shut down air travel.

Suspect Busted For One Cent Bank Robbery
Cops: Man gave teller withdrawal slip "for the amount of $00.01"

JULY 3--After a man handed a bank teller a note demanding cash, police swooped down on a Chase Bank branch in Florida and arrested the unarmed suspect for robbery.

The amount he allegedly sought: One cent.

The unorthodox robbery bid, cops say, occurred Saturday afternoon in Lady Lake, a town about 50 miles north of Orlando.

According to an arrest report, Michael Patrick Fleming, 41, walked into the bank, filled out a withdrawal slip, and handed it to a teller. “The defendant was told he could not be given $00.01,” police noted.

55 My favorite Charlie Daniels story: He was a young session guitarist in Nashville. Bob Dylan had the Capitol studio for the Nashville Skyline recording, and the regular studio guitarist had somewhere else he had to be for the morning, so CDB sat in for the half-day. He said the way Dylan ran his sessions was that the musicians got to contribute where they thought they had a good idea, and he did. When the half-day was over and the regular guy showed up, CDB started packing up his stuff and Dylan asked where he was going. He explained that he'd been hired for the half-day to fill in for the regular, and Dylan said to the producer, pointing at Daniels, "He stays." Charlie said that gave him so much confidence that he never forgot it.

100 So a guy moves into a new house. Neighbor fella comes over to say hello. After chatting for a while, the neighbor invites the new guy to a party at his house. The new guy thinks it sounds like a good way to meet his neighbors and accepts.

The neighbor says I gotta warn ya, there’s gonna be some drinking. The new guy say he was in the Navy and saw his share of shore leave drinking.

The neighbor then tells him there could be some fighting. The new guy tells him he grew up in a rough neighborhood and can handle himself pretty well if he has to.

The neighbor says, “Well, I gotta tell ya, there might be some sex, too.” The new guy tells him he’s not a prude and has been around the block a bit.

Good says the neighbor. I’ll see you tomorrow at seven, and he turns to leave. The new guy says wait a minute, what should I wear?

The neighbor says, “Wear anything you like, it’s just going to be you and me.”

3 way races (Biden, Trump RFK)

PA Trump +3
WI Biden +2
MI Biden +6
GA Trump +2
NC Trump +2
NV Trump +6

A couple notes:
1) Morning Consult is the most favorable poll for Biden this cycle
2) Polling a 3 way race is disingenuous, RFK is only on the ballot in 8 states, while Green Party is on 19. The MC poll gives says RFK is getting 10% in WI, however he isn't on that ballot and the deadline is past.

Parkinson's and Lewy Body are closely related. If I've got it right "Parkinsonism" is a cluster of symptoms. Specific Parkinson's Disease can cause those symptoms, but Lewy Body and some others can present with this Parkinsonism cluster.

As the doc noted to Berenson, Biden definitely has Parkinsonism, only question is what is causing it. He also notes that Biden has had some sort of "brain bleed" surgery, and that is very poor prognosis with that. Cognitive decline is worse and more rapid with Parkinsonism coupled with that.

And the complaint about DDT was that it damaged bird eggs NOT that it affected people.

The people who have been claiming for the last 4 years that Biden is the smartest, most talented man in America will turn on a dime and say that of course that senile racist Biden should be replaced if the DNC replaces him with someone else. And they'll tell you the only way to save "our sacred democracy" is to vote for the guy selected by their party's elites to replace the person they actually chose.

The left is scared shitless of retribution for all things covid and clot shot. As well they should.

Conversely, if they retain power, do NOT be surprised if they go about eliminating the only valid "Control Group" remaining, so as to "validate" all their covid fevered dreams.

Some of us revel in being un-jabbed, now. But, that'll make us EXACTLY that only valid control group that the left MUST eradicate, in order to maintain their conceit.

So, they "love the shot". They've just not had one from the right caliber, yet.

I think this is the critical part of the debate.

Biden didn't have "a bad debate". His issue wasn't that he got his facts wrong, wasn't smooth, or got hit with more zingers that he fired off.

The problem is he appeared mentally incompetent - no different then Adm Stockdale not knowing why he was on stage...

I got sort of interested in this "gourmet ice" stuff, and how it's done. You can get some ice machines, and pay some ridiculous amount to do it.

The trick to perfectly clear ice is doing it like icicles, freezing from the inside out, not outside in. The machines use this method. Running water, slowly running water that slowly freezes based on a kernel seed.

Recent Example: Silicon Valley Bank. Management was pure DEI, corrupt and reckless, yet the FDIC guaranteed way beyond the $250k/account and guaranteed every account in full despite SVB paying insurance premiums on the much lower amount.

That's called the Mpemba Effect. It's real. Under certain conditions. You wouldn't believe how much research has been done on this. It has roots in some people noticing that hot water lines appeared to freeze and burst more than cold water lines.

In terms of spherical cows, it has to do with supercooling vs contanimants (which heating water can drive out).

Basically the cold water supercools more than the heated water. Note I said "heated water", not hot water.

Freezing is an observable phase change, accompanied by a change in volume.

I had a clear plastic bottle of drinking water in the freezer at my place in Arizona last Winter, and took it out to take on a Jeep run. Water was still liquid in the bottle, but was super-cooled. As I handled the bottle, it froze solid in my hands in a second or two.

349 >> Maybe defining what constitutes "freezing" is where the difficulty arises

The point at which the sample goes into the solid state. This research found the conditions to get this effect just right. Put some "hot water" in a container vs some cold water. The cold water temp gets to 32F faster than the hot water. It has to.

But that cold water stays at 32F, and with a little freezing point depression due to contaminants (anti-freeze), and some supercooling, stays liquid for longer.

The hot water sample gets down there to 32F later in time, but starts to freeze once it's there sooner than the cold water sample, Once completely frozen, the temperature then starts dropping, solid ice cooling off.

They had graphs of this with different samples under various conditions. They figure it out, with lord knows how much money, time, and effort involved.

Again, very interesting, but stupid.

NYC tried and failed, for years, to get a Freon based chilling (copper) tube system, to restore the Ice Rink at (I forget) either Rockefeller Square or Central Park. Doesn't matter, as much as...

Trump got with professional Ice Hockey Rink operators, who schooled him on how it's really done.

Trump makes a "get out of my way" offer to NYC, which they accept.

Short version. The Chilled Salt Brine flowing through the copper tubing, at something like 29.2f, was more than cold enough to freeze the ice for the rink.

With no loss of freon gasses, or stolen copper tubes for the thieves.

Seems the left has forgotten that story of how Trump rode to the rescue of a vaunted NYC tradition, long before his first political venture.

I suppose you could be right, but the guy who ponied up the three million dollars and his reputation as a developer in Manhattan decided to follow the advice of Cimco on the theory that an engineering company that specialized in building hockey rinks had specific insight into the most trouble-free refrigeration system. They of course were willing to build it for him since it was an area of their expertise.

Cimco does make ammonia systems but apparently they thought brine was better, and lower maintenance for that use. which is used for hockey rinks now?

388 Peter Sellers was such a major talent - from The Goon Show all the way up to Being There. He was so good at immersing himself in a character that many people wondered whether there actually was a core personality of "Peter Sellers" beneath all the performance and mimicry. He even suggested something like that himself in some of the final interviews before his death.

It's weird that both he and his Goon Show colleague Spike Milligan suffered from severe mental issues, and both were fairly open about it. To be fair, though, the same applied to Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, and the members of Monty Python also battled a number of personal demons.

390 The brine is what is chilled BY the ammonia based cooling system. Which is in a building separate from, and ventilated AWAY from the rink and it's immediate environs.

Brine flows through the tubes, is returned to "The Plant" (ammonia based), re-chilled, and sent back out into the tubes under the ice, to keep the rink well and truly frozen.

It's called a Heat Exchanger, and a proven system for +100 years.

391 In re Peter Sellers, the late Dennis Hopper claimed for years that there was a connection between the Tate/La Bianca murders and some film footage recorded by Roman Polanski that featured Sellers, Yul Brenner, and a number of other Hollywood elites.

It's a wild, fever-swamp conspiracy that is one of many circulating about that horrific event, and Hopper is perhaps not the most reliable of sources. Show Biz folks seem to like a bit of drama and scandal and might be happy to create some as well.

what any of this means, but probably involves math.

I think ice rinks and large commercial ice plants use the ammonia cycle as the prime cooling mechanism. Cheaper and more thermodynamically efficient than Freon and its lame substitutes.

Yes, Freon became the refrigerant of choice due to its lack of flammability and lack of toxicity. Ammonia is toxic and flammable.

And then "Inverse Mpemba Effect". If hot water can freeze faster than cold, then maybe cold water could boil faster than hot. :-)

There's been investigations into that....

Seriously, this is getting into "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin" territory. You've got cold water vs "hot" (really previously heated water). Now, you start doing the experiments on the freezing time. You then start putting all sorts of definitions and conditions on the samples.

At some point, you're going to define and condition all the possible differences away until there is no difference, and thus the cold must freeze before the hot. In the real world, where the effect might be observed, those differences are important to getting the effect.

Again, "interesting but stupid", I must say.

Our gray tabby is given to that behavior as well - she has our whole daily schedule mapped out in terms of what we are to do for her in the food department. Ah, you humans are watching Jeopardy - time for my afternoon squeeze-up. No, you will not wait until the commercial - do it now and I will decide if it's sufficient.
