The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“Gardening is a nice, stress-relieving hobby,” Brewer said. “But I’m nervous for people who may not be aware that working with compost and flower bulbs could pose a risk to their health.” Marin Brewer,UGA’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

Quote II

“I say to a lot of people like, when's it end? When do we change course? And the number one answer is, 'We haven't bottomed out yet. We're getting near it. We haven't totally bottomed out.' And then I say, ‘Why is it necessary to bottom out?’” He said. “It's like saying, you know, I was looking for some stuff in my son's room and I found some syringes and a baggie of heroin. But he hasn't flatlined yet, okay? I have not walked in and seen foam coming out of his mouth or him convulsing. And you go, 'Yeah, I know, but why don't you get him in some treatment now?' And you go 'Because his heart hasn't stopped yet.' And it's like, ‘Yeah, I know, but why do we have to bottom out?’ We know where we're going. Let's reverse course. California and Los Angeles can't do it.” Adam Corolla

Quote III

"While we made substantial progress on improving our business operations in Q1, we missed our sales goals due largely to a continued pullback in consumer spending by our core customers, particularly in high ticket discretionary items." Big Lots CEO Bruce Thorn

Sounds like Biden's economy is fvcking rocking!

Yes Hordelings, The ONT Is Always Looking Out For YouTM

If You See This USB Charger In Your Hotel Or Airbnb, Get Out Immediately

If you stay in an airbnb or a hotel, you probably don't think twice about the amenities offered. Perhaps you'll brew and enjoy complimentary coffee from the coffee maker, or binge a series on a streaming service that's been paid for, but you might not realize that one convenience you've been provided with might not be as it seems - a USB charging cube.

It always feels like you need another cube, even if you've brought some of your own, so if you find one in your room, there's a good chance you'll plug it in and charge up a device with it, but some cubes out there don't only charge, they also film you. Search Amazon for "USB cube camera" and you'll see dozens of pages offering USB cubes in all shapes and sizes, only they are described as spy devices since they allow for unsuspecting people to be recorded.

Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse was child's play compared to these Brown Shirts in Washington, D.C.

An employee with the D.C. Central Detention Facility (DOC), better known as the D.C. Gulag, pepper-sprayed a January 6 prisoner in the face twice in less than a few minutes for refusing to wear a mask, bodycam footage obtained by the House Judiciary Committee confirms.

We keep hearing about the hottest temps. What about the coldest temps evah?!?!

Antarctic Anomaly: 2023’s Record-Breaking Cold Contrasts Global Warming

A 2023 study documented unprecedented cold spells in Antarctica, contrasting sharply with global heat records and underscoring the complexity of climate patterns.
2023 was marked by record-breaking global temperatures, but it also witnessed unusual extreme cold events in Antarctica. A recent study published in Advances in Atmospheric Sciences highlights the intense cold spells that occurred on the continent during the late winter months of July and August.

In a detailed examination of the late winter months of 2023, researchers observed extreme cold temperatures across a broad region of Antarctica.

“Record cold temperatures were observed in our Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) network as well as other locations around the region,” said Matthew A. Lazzara of the Antarctic Meteorological Research and Data Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison). “These phases were marked by new record low temperatures recorded at both staffed and automatic weather stations, spanning East Antarctica, the Ross Ice Shelf, and West Antarctica to the Antarctic Peninsula.”

It isn't a long read and should be taught in every classroom.

What Rhymes with FBI?

Mark Twain has been credited with the quip that “history doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.” When it comes to corruption and the FBI, he may have been right.

In the late teens to early twenties, evidence began to trickle out in the media suggesting that an individual within the Executive Branch of the United States Government had profited significantly from his official position. Over the course of several years, it became clear that money had flowed from an energy company looking to secure favorable business deals to a self-dealing Executive Branch official. Millions changed hands and the Bureau was called in to investigate.

Yet, the Bureau wasn't actually there to investigate the corrupt official. They were there to investigate any person asking questions about the corruption. They were there as part of an effort to protect the high-level official from rightful scrutiny for his unexplainable wealth. They were there to intimidate those bringing to light misdeeds and corruption.

If this sounds familiar, it should.

You just may have the century wrong.

Kurt Schlichter has a way with words. His take on Resident of The White House, MushHead's debate performance.

Leftists would prefer a senile leftist to a competent, capable conservative, but what are they going to do? Ol’ Daddyshowers won’t go voluntarily, and they can’t force him out. But even if he agreed to cancel his cantankerous candidacy, what would they do? Who are they going to put in? Kamala Harris? They have to – she’s a woman-identifying being of color. How do you step over her for pallor penis-person Governor Gavin Hairstyle? Maybe they could pick Gretchen Whitmer, that frigid Karen from Michigan, and let the shrill white lady come along to save us from the failed black woman. That’s an image they just can’t have.

I'm not a golfer. But I do have someone who I will cheer for on the links. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

Chris Hockaday battled drug addiction throughout his 20s and got clean at age 34. Yesterday, the 55 year-old qualifier shot 69 and MADE THE CUT at the U.S. Senior Open.

This interview is mesmerizing.

It's never too late for redemption in life.

They take your money back, you send all the documents and 180 days later, they decide if you get your money back. The little boy runs into the house and comes back out with a can of hair spray. He sprays the worm until it is straight and stiff as a board. The boy then proceeds to put the worm back into the hole. The grandfather hands the little boy five dollars, grabs the hair spray and runs into the house.

Thirty minutes later the grandfather comes back out and hands the boy another five dollars. The little boy says, "Grandpa, you already gave me five dollars." The grandfather replies, "I know. That's from your Grandma."

I read the The Washington Post's blurb on the SCOTUS decision today, and Sotomayor fit dissent.

Justice Sotomayor dissent: ‘The President is now a king above the law’

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/justice-sotomayor -dissent-the-president-is-now-a-king-above-the-law /ar-BB1pe5vc?ocid=BingNewsSerp

(remove space after "sotomayor" and after "law")

"Sotomayor warned that a president is now immune from criminal prosecution if he orders the Navy’s SEAL Team 6 to assassinate a political rival, or if he organizes a coup to hold on to political power.
If he takes a bribe in exchange for a pardon?
"

Sotomayor bases her fears upon actions that were, are, and continue to be illegal, even under the recent SCOTUS decision. There is no evidence that we will become as Venezuela, and Sotomayor has not even made such an argument.

From whom is Sotomayor protecting us? Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana? He had the medals, but was not an American President.

Perhaps it is time for Sotomayor to retire.

But you can be damn sure if I found out a student joined a mass movement of any kind, that's an automatic pass. I don't need frustrated, directionless, morose fanatics in the workplace, even if they don't happen to be maniac jew-haters who endorse extreme violence as a persuasion tactic.

At some point in the last several years they decided "red" was a little too close to home perhaps to ever be associated with Democrats. Or something.

Posted by: Common Tater at July 01, 2024 11:06 PM (QrC69)

IIRC, the three networks did the red/blue color swap in 1984 or 1988. I know that in 1980 the Dems were red and Republicans blue. I imagine Left-leaning ad agencies told the DNC and the Networks to swap the colors. Ad agencies know what sells.

But let’s be clear. When they speak of the “administrative state,” they’re talking about agencies tasked with protecting the public from corporations that seek profits at the expense of the health, safety, and pocketbooks of average Americans. Regulations are the means by which agencies translate broad legal mandates into practical guardrails. ...

When I was driving the Chicago Edens and I-90, in the 1990s, the worst, by which I mean inconsistent and unpredictable, were the Pontiac Grand Am and Nissan Sentra. They'd scream past in the right lane, and a mile up the road they'd be parked under the speed limit in the far left. Total inconsistency; you never had any idea what they were going to do or when they would do it.
The luxury Dick-Mobiles were at least consistent: they always were going far faster than my truck, so once around me, not an issue.

She called it 'The Buttermobile'.

Amusingly, CBS called her 'Atlanta's second black mayor'. Every Mayor since 1974 has been black, 7 of them.

After she gave up as Mayor, she was lured into the Biden administration, where she stayed for...8 months...before returning to Atlanta.

Now, she's been recruited as 'A senior advisor'. Georgia must be polling badly for Joe.

They can't accept either.

This is the party of Historic Firsts.

Bill Clinton was "the first black president" because..... he could play the saxophone? I'm sure anyone trying to pull that today would be branded a racist and thrown out of polite society.

Barack Obama was "the first black president," demoting Bill to..... the first publicly intern-banging president. But Obama's not 100% African. So they've got space for another "first black president," demoting Obama to "the first partly-black president."

No way are they going to give up "first woman president" and "first black woman president" to the same woman.

Same reason they can't admit Obama was anything other than fiercely heterosexual. Can't have the first Alphabet Person pres and first black pres be the same guy.

429 Cadillac tried to pump the Cimarron up with a lot of Extra Features in the platform.

Multi-power-adjustable front seats. Auto dual-zone climate control.

Suspension refinements. Steering refinements. Better quality shocks n' struts. Upgraded interior materials. Even a higher standard for paint and exterior panel fit, etc.

The result? The base Cavalier now carried about a 400 lb. weight penalty when in Cimarron trim.

And the Iron Duke four banger base engine didn't like that one damn bit. Later Cimarrons came with the V-6 as standard. Because, they HAD to.

Posted by: Way, Way Downriver at July 02, 2024 01:23 AM (zdLoL)

432 The Iron Duke was indeed, a stalwart engine.

Only reason it wasn't a GREAT engine, was that GM kept asking it to do more than it was intended to DO.

My ex had a Pontiac Sunfire coupe, so equipped, with a 4 speed manual.

It could seldom chirp the tires in 1st, and never in 2nd.

But, get the RPMs up into the torque curve, shift LATE, and it began to resemble a runner.

What it was really, REALLY good at? 40mpg highway. In a '79 Sunbird. THAT was some pretty damn astounding performance, even then.

I'm up about an hour early, partly because of a certain black cat leaping around me in bed. (BS he's an "old man cat" at age two. Miss Linda calls him that in the evenings when he's relaxed on curled up on me. She doesn't see him racing around at 2 or 3 am.) Little Dagny La Siberienne still sleeps with me only rarely; she's stretched out on the table, thinking Dagny thoughts, I guess.

Need to work out, and I have a busy day today at work before I slide off to a nice five-day vacation. How 'bout you? Taking any time off before or after the Fourth?
