The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

For many years, Israel's preferred tactic was the rigorously controlled surgical strike. One missile into the third window from the northwest corner, seventh floor, after warning the entire building to get out. Sure...it worked after a fashion, but the Islamists continued to build their terror infrastructure; continued to build up weapons stores in preschools and hospitals; continued to preach their 1,400 year old message of hate, and consolidated their grip on a willing populace.

But the scale and brutality of the October 7th Pogrom changed the paradigm within Israel. Ignoring the hard left, with their insatiable desire for power over all else (including the survival of the state!), most Israelis are convinced that Hamas must be reduced to almost nothing, and the hyper-militarization of Gaza must end. And if that requires a low-intensity war for many months, and then regular operations to keep Hamas wallowing in the mud...then so be it.

Of course the usual suspects are frothing at the mouth with their incessant condemnations of everything Israel does in its defense, but as Israel methodically pounds Hamas, each event elicits a smaller reaction from the media and the professional Israel/Jew haters. And the arrant stupidity of a compliant world media accepting unquestioningly the ridiculous claims from the terrorists themselves about tens of thousands of innocents killed -- mostly women and children of course -- has been exposed.

Has the world become less enamored of their brave freedom fighters hiding behind toddlers in the tunnels under Gaza? No, but it grows tired of the constant battering from obviously nonsensical claims. This does not mean that Israel can relax its vigilance...there has been no sea change...it is simply exhaustion. They will eventually regroup and re-energize their battalions of useful idiots, and the marches and protests and attacks on Jews around the world will continue. But Hamas is being degraded as a military (with apologies to real soldiers) force and as the power in Gaza. And that is the goal.

What comes next should be of less importance to Israel. The Arab world is welcome to rebuild Gaza and make it Singapore-On-The Mediterranean. Or at least spout nonsensical platitudes about it while doing very little. But it isn't Israel's problem. No...Israel's problem is terrorists crossing its borders and killing its citizens. And they are dealing with that issue quite effectively.

But the larger issue of Hezbollah, and then the core issue: Iran, remains unresolved. With a Democrat in the White House, the threat of a regional war, complete with nuclear weapons, grows day by day. Realistically, Israel will have to go it alone against Iran and its proxies, and if the Biden/Obama junta allows an Iranian nuclear weapon, then the world is going to become a much more dangerous place for a short while.

A Trump presidency would immediately calm the waters. It is well known that he is not an Iranophile, and that he understands Iran's place in the hierarchy of global destabilization.

So...vote Donald Trump...For World Peace!

Dogs bark and the caravan moves on. My guess is that the whole issue was brought up as Floyd redux but it lacks the resonance in the street because by and large, people don't care that much about those in other countries.

Even most of the activists don't 'care' as such other than those with direct ties to the Arab street abroad. Essentially they are an unguided missile that require manipulation by oligarchs into the enemy du jour in the US.

More like, people are easily led sheep while feeling the need to help but see no real suffering in their daily lives. So, the media they consume understands that and manipulates them to caring about things that the media cares about. These can be genuine causes, or they can be facades for other motives.

I think we're well past the point where there are genuine causes being trumpeted by any outlet with a national presence. I'd like it if more Americans learned the game, though.

Day one, PDTS shuts down the government by EO and says it won't restart until it's funded by a budget. The budget can certainly include whatever congress has committed to as long as the US government is funded first. Oh, and the budget must be balanced.

There is no place to put them, and no one who will take them. Egypt and Jordan have both said it will mean War with both of them if Israel tries to push any of the Palestinians inside their borders. Egypt has moved some tank divisions up close to the border to emphasize that they mean it.

Islam though may be the exception that proves the rule. Don't know enough about Zoroastrianism to make a claim. Confucianism and Taoism tenets still exist but actual worship appears diminishing due to Communism and modernity. Remains to be seen if revivals take place.

I agree this decision gives the liberal court an off ramp. The left miscalculated big time on the lawfare against Trump and biden is paying a hefty price for it.

It not only made Trump stronger in the polls, his small donor fund raising exploded both during and after his kangaroo court trial.

One is that Merchan is not a federal judge and thus any pronouncements on FEC violations by him are reviewable by federal court. Second, Scotus just handed down a decision that extends Sullivan v. Louisana (1995) and US v. Gaudin of the same year (1995). The new decision dealt with ACCAP and underlying conduct (past convictions) at sentencing. Erlanger v US requires jury to find unanimously that the past offenses constituting the sentencing enhancement applied to ACCAP sentencing enhancement.

The third issue is that the immunity issue still has to be adjudicated by a hearing due to Scotus rectifying the law if only for the NY Judge to reject its application here.

I don't think it's quite so opaque. His daughter is literally on the DNC payroll. Colangelo was sent by the DOJ to oversee the prosecution. Part of the predicate uncharged activity that Merchan allowed is FEC violations. Trump conceivably could argue immunity over the alleged predicate crime due to jurisdiction for FEC violations not being with NY state and jury in the case.

It would be more a delay tactic to sentencing as the stronger argument is that each element including the predicate crimes must be decided unanimously which Merchan explicitly did not charge the jury to do so.

All of the entries were in 2017 which tends to make the NY state elections predicate charge ludicrous because of temporal issues. NY state law doesn't apply via black letter law to federal runs for office anyway as FEC has sole jurisdiction for those.

The whole reason that the misdemeanors for writing each 2017 check to Cohen for legal services was elevated to felonies and charged past the statutory limitations is that Bragg alleged past predicate felonies were committed. The Chinese menu approach by Merchan allowing the jury to pick and choose the predicate crime is the most probable reason for an appellate court to overturn the decision based on Erlanger and the older Sullivan v. Louisiana case.

From all accounts she has settled into the working actress role and never had the massive fame burnout that Lindsay Lohan or others like Miley did.

Child actresses and actors have it rough especially if those around them don't give a crap about them or are actual abusers. Those making it into the forties while still acting tend to have their head on the shoulders correctly . See also Kurt Russell.
