The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

American Exceptionalism was nowhere more evident than in California as it grew into the natural resources, manufacturing, and technology behemoth that powered the country. You name it, and California had it in abundance. Add the incredible physical beauty of its beaches, mountains, deserts, and rivers, and its moniker "The Golden State" was well deserved.

So what happened? Is Chaucer correct?

But at the laste, as every thing hath ende,
She took hir leve, and nedes wolde wende.

How California's Paradise Become Our Purgatory
California has become a test case of the suicide of the West. Never before has such a state, so rich in natural resources and endowed with such a bountiful human inheritance, self-destructed so rapidly.

How and why did California so utterly consume its unmatched natural and ancestral inheritance and end up as a warning to Western civilization of what might be in store for anyone who followed its nihilism?

That's exactly correct..."nihilism," and it is rooted in the cultural miasma emanating from the 1960s rebellion against...what? Tradition? Excellence? Religion's rational control of behavior? Allowing adults to tell children what to do?

Destroying all of those things played perfectly with the progressive desire to rebuild society...after it tears it down. And the idiocy and destructiveness of the 1960s radicals has subsumed the Democrat party, or perhaps that movement exposed the Democrat party's traditional leaning!

Regardless, it found fertile soil in California, and after two generations it has overwhelmed California and turned it into a cesspit of rabid progressive ideas and policies. The fever dreams of the 1960s radicals are now public policy in California, and nothing is too insane!

Sadly it has also embraced the other less savory aspects of progressivism (as if there are any savory aspects!). Racial division, class division, religious division...all are now front and center in what used to be a state whose horizons were limited only by one's imagination. Now it is a sclerotic, bureaucratic nightmare that has rigid social structures promoted and maintained by its government! It is dirty, dangerous, overflowing with the contents of central American prisons, and wholly unfit for traditional American families.

It exports its nonsense to its neighbors, and its federal legislators are infected with the lunacy of the state government. Observe any of the nuttier bills put forth in the United States Congress and the odds are that it comes from or is supported by the California Congressional delegation!

Is it time to force California to grow up? Yes, but it needs to fail before anything substantive can be done. Luckily, the people of California are casually going about their business as if nothing is awry, and that will hasten its downfall. The good people are leaving, and soon California will be left without a middle class...just the robber barons in their gated estates and an ocean of workers... many illegal... supporting them.

Hopefully the rest of the country won't have to pay for the bail out, but I'm not holding my breath!

28 The $20/hr wage is just the latest symptom of the Progressive Disease that has turned California into the 'sick man' of the Union.

The policies of the Democrat Party in the past forty plus years has either ground into oblivion businesses or driven them out of state. When the last C-17 was built it marked the end of the aviation industry in California; because there were no more aviation manufacturers left in the state. One of the flocks of Goden Geese that made California had been killed.

So now the state government is basically owned by the few remaining big companies like Google. And the Federal government.

2. It does aid them in their inevitable praise for his performance.

One thing I noticed, people act like these things are computer re-spawn games. Burn down town, another one pops up right away. It doesn't work like that.

My smallish hometown was urban rust belt enough, barely, to see rioting in 1968. There are still yet today, boarded up buildings. It takes generations to build things up, only minutes to destroy.

That's why back in the day "even" the Democrats used to issue "shoot to wound" orders for looters, and "shoot to kill" orders for arsonists. No matter what the cause, the folks urging you to burn shit down are not on your side.

Tolerance for arsonists is disturbing especially. It is a capital offense and should be treated that way.

In the book, Hayek "[warns] of the danger of tyranny that inevitably results from government control of economic decision-making through central planning."[1] He further argues that the abandonment of individualism and classical liberalism inevitably leads to a loss of freedom, the creation of an oppressive society, the tyranny of a dictator, and the serfdom of the individual.

Hayek challenged the view, popular among British Marxists, that fascism (including Nazism) was a capitalist reaction against socialism. He argued that fascism, Nazism, and state-socialism had common roots in central economic planning and empowering the state over the individual.

CRT is has the same common roots.
So does TRANS right.

108 It breaks my heart to see what California has become. Living there since the age of 3 all through when I enlisted in the USCG in 1984, it was truly paradise. A place where even low to middle income families could afford a home and the schools were great no matter what neighborhood you lived in. It was a state that Ronald Regan was Governor of from 1967 - 1975.

It can come back again but by who? What leader can inspire and run that state as it should? Where is the DeSantis for CA?

109 California today to me is the apex example of a cancerous hubris. Within two generations of the Greatest Generation a significant part of the nation became a soft and silly people that embraced the false idea that government can improve the citizens lives with sufficient programs instead of making sure that conditions exist and nothing more that individual initiative is the best program. The insidious part is when the first takes root it begins to attract like minded people until a leftist mono culture, a political and social kudzu, is all that remains. Structural failure seems to be the only solution that will bring about the potential for a rational rebuilding.

123 I don't believe talk of letting CA fail is really relevant, because I believe it's a done deal that those who are culturally American will cede control in the future, willingly or not, to foreigners.

It's going to (continue to) fail. Those living there when it does aren't going to rebuild jack shit. Nothing is going to get better unless someone else rolls in and kicks them out or conquers them. That's how these things work, and the 21st century is not some special post-history situation where the normal rules of play are suspended.

I get really frustrated with older relatives from CA who *should* have an understanding of what is going on, but in reality they just try to hunker down in their little bubble/enclaves and pretend they don't see what is happening. Then invest quite a bit of effort trying to convince others that where they live isn't any "really" any better than CA.

The next big leg down is the blue states out west all switching over to hiring illegals for their police forces. THIS was one of the primary drivers for the Brown/Martin/Floyd riots and the anti-cop rhetoric - driving normie-Americans out of policing. (some may remember abortive, but clearly pre-preared attempts to push bills to federalize all policing after Brown). It's only "defund the police" until their people are the ones toting the guns.

Combine third world gangs with police forces staffed with third worlders and you are in for a world of shit, especially considering the larger forces are basically standing armies.

179 Why Trump's VP will probably be Doug Burgum. Burgum is the perfect ambassador to the only group Trump really cares about in this race. He may reportedly be only a hundred-millionaire, but he made his money buying into and then later, as its president, selling an accounting software firm. This makes Burgum exactly the kind of faux tech bro who fits in at the pro-Trump gatherings being hosted by billionaires Elon Musk and Nelson Peltz.

Trump depends on enormous checks from billionaires to propel his campaign, and the only person that really counts, is the one who best clicks with Elon. No one checks that box as well as Burgum.

Trump may enjoy the idea of seeing just how much humiliation Sen. Tim Scott can absorb. He may relish the idea of ordering Sen. Marco Rubio to surrender his seat and his state for a spot on the ticket. But Burgum has given a clear signal that he’s willing to lie for Trump, be his bagman, and never step near the spotlight. That’s a combination that no other hopeful seems to match.

249 I live in Laguna Hills CA in a modest 3200 sq.ft. home, but the back yard is gorgeous, particularly this time of year. The jasmine scent, the bougainvillea bushes and jacaranda trees, our rose garden. It is breathtaking. The temperature is perfect almost year round. We are 10 minutes from the coast, just far enough that the gloom burns off before noon. I am approaching retirement (29yrs) and nothing would be more pleasant than to spend my golden years in my back yard weeding my one acre hillside and jogging the horse trails with my golden retrievers.

Life is perfect.

But I still owe $900k on my home. It is worth $2.8m. So, I could cash out and live like a king anywhere, but where to go? How could I replicate what I have now? The weather, the beauty, the beach, the mountains, the desert, everything.

I've noticed that in the early days of Barnaby Jones, which are running on MeTV now, the slant was much more cerebral, Columbo-like if you will, than it came to be later. The creator, writers, and producers were smart enough to know that while it might be fun to show Mannix being clubbed, and Frank Cannon acting like an action hero, that was out of the question for Ebsen as Barnaby. So they made him a elderly Columbo type. We still saw the murder and knew who it was -- but the fun was in watching the wily Jones outwit and trap his quarry.

Yes because before they had only admitted that they merely removed the classified docs and had put placeholders in the boxes.
When they admitted they lost the order and box number.

This is an admission that none of the docs they said were classified had "classified" marked on them.
So Trump, the valet, and everyone else Jack has charged were supposed to intuit--without even knowing what was in the boxes-- that ordinary looking docs were actually classified.
Again: Without ever seeing or looking at the docs.

I'd say unbelievable, but sadly, it's all too believable.

I was watching a video on YouTube yesterday which included someone reading a civil war era newspaper article. The article referred to blacks using the vernacular of that era: negros…. YouTube beeped out that word every single time.

I understand it’s not current but this was reading a newspaper article from the 1860s. Am I so fragile that I’ll be damaged if I hear the word negro in that context? And yet we still have the NAACP

My bet is things get sporty before you can pay that note off and if you got the kind of bread and skills to pay a 900k note, you can pretty much move to wherever you want.

But I understand where you're coming from, psychically, I cannot leave the North East as leftist as it is, and the only place that I could imagine myself moving to would be the Pacific North West, which in many ways, is even more leftist than the North East.

318 So basically, Jack Smith grabbed a bunch of "classified" cover sheets.
Riffled through the boxes. And slapped classified willy-nilly.

This goes back to the surprise of Trump's lawyers at the raid, why they were confused it escalated so quickly-- when they were fully cooperating!

Because Smith feared the agreement would be reached to remove them--including inspection under the supervision of Trump's attorneys.
And that would have been the death knell of his case.
Because no reasonable person would have thought the docs removed were classified.
And, the only docs that were, were the ones sent in the second tranch--packed under and by the Archives. Who were the ones who deliberately hid classified docs in the boxes for Smith to "find."

320 California is a financial zombie.
Ahnuld promised to break open all zee boxezz. But all he did was borrow $36 billion at 6%>believe it or not Governor Brown paid that off. But the legislators borrowed many times more than 36 billion more. Mostly for consumables like illegal alien care. And some for useless stuff like trains to nowhere. But the income needed to support the borrowing decreased over time as the highest state taxes drove earners away and replaced with poverty stricken third workers that contribute next to nothing. Stores closed because of soft on crime. Emptied prisons to fuel crime. It's Dante's outer circle 🔴 of Hell . Not Hell yet but we're going there.

Posted by: torabora at June 25, 2024 12:25 PM (0Gnoc)

321 Recall also that Smith has fought tooth and nail to prevent Trump's attorneys from seeing the actual, original "classified" documents.
In fact, I think they still haven't been allowed access.

Because he desperately needed the valet to plead guilty to mishandling first.
So he can bootstrap that onto Trump--without ever having to produce the actual documents.
Make Trump guilty by imputing the guilty plea of another onto him--guilt by association.
Just like they did in NY.

But Trump is the dictator and threat to justice ....

322 One Sunday morning while living in Erie PA, the kid called and was going to be passing through, spend the night. Paying for the beer, I realized reflex action had me stick my little Beretta in my hip pocket. Got out of NY state carefully. Anyway, on a road trip I was in Bullhead City, went for a drive about and wound up in Needles CA after kinda getting lost. Had a gun on me, another in the car and got terrified. Any state that can deprive you of a basic right is no bueno.

323 Really sad to see the downfall of the state of California. I have posted before how it was a strong red state from 1960 through 1992, with one exception of voting Democrat in 1964.

Presidential voting results in CA:

1960: GOP +0.5%
1964: DEM +18.3%
1968: GOP +3.1%
1972: GOP + 13.5%
1976: GOP +1.8%
1980: GOP +16.8%
1984: GOP +16.1%
1988: GOP +3.6%
1992: DEM +13.4%

1996 D+12.9%, 2000 D+11.8%, 2004 D+9.9%, 2008 D+24.1%, 2012 D+23.1%, 2016 D+30.1%, 2020 D+29.2%.

The state of Illinois has followed a similar trend. Texas is sadly following the same trend now as well.

I was born and raised south side of Chicago. Only family still alive who still lives there is my middle brother, my dad and my cousins. I moved to SE Michigan after graduating college in 1999. Youngest brother has been all around world with Army since 2011. Grandparents have all passed away. Two uncles have passed away. And my mom retired and moved to Arizona in 2014.

Back then, Arizona was somewhat sane. 10 years later, it seems as corrupt as Chicago. In retrospect, Florida may have been the better retirement location choice.

All you know is being a defeatist and constant whining that the end of this state is absolutely inevitable. We should just all stop voting and sit around and pout and whine as well. Let’s just stop trying, because based on voting numbers from back in the 1980# our doom is inevitable.

328 All you know is being a defeatist and constant whining that the end of this state is absolutely inevitable.

Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at June 25, 2024 01:07 PM

At no time have I ever stated that things are inevitable. I have pointed out the trends as a warning for people to not make the same mistakes as Democrats did in 2016 assuming that states which voted long-time for one side were going to continue to do so.

Also, we should be learning from the history of California and Illinois as the same trend is happening in Texas. It is not too late to stop the trend. But the first thing that must happen is to acknowledge it is happening and make a plan to stop it. Not complain about people who are pointing out facts and reality.

329 ". . . the idiocy and destructiveness of the 1960s radicals has subsumed the Democrat party, or perhaps that movement exposed the Democrat party's traditional leaning!"

What's for sure, not perhaps, is that in addition to the long march into academia and K-12 education, and from there into media local, state, and federal bureaucracies, the 1960s radicals took over the Democrat party starting at the local level: the Democratic Clubs in each city and the county committees.
They got themselves elected to city councils and school boards, and took it from there.
