Searching just for "Amolação interrompida":
The composition Amolation Interrupted, by the Brazilian painter Almeida Junior, is another of his works linked to the man of the countryside, his so prestigious caboclo. The painting depicts a rural landscape, with only one human figure, the hillbilly, who shows himself working. Her humble, mud-dirty clothes depict her hard work: a white shirt, sleeves folded on her forearms, trousers scratched, wrapped around her knees, and a yellow scarf, with small prints covering part of her black hair. On the right, hanging from the belt of the pants, is a huge knife, inside a leather sheath. The man finds himself in a stream, with a stone in the middle, kneading his axe, tightly gripped by the wooden handle, while waving his right hand, greeting someone who sees, and, interrupting his work. Despite his sturdy and seemingly young physique, his body shows the marks of hard toil and the sun. The face and neck are creased by many wrinkles, while protruding veins, own of those who take the heavy, spread by the arms and legs. The hand that greets is thick, rough and shows the fingers with dirty nails. Posted by: andycanuck (ZdexC) at June 26, 2024 10:05 AM (ZdexC) 134

On the left side of the hillbilly are his straw hat on the ground and a gourd, in the water of the’, on the edge of the stream. On its back is a board, where possibly the family washes clothes and containers. By turning the body, the man shows the path that leads to a humble clay house, with a door and two windows visible, one on each side, inside a fenced-in dick. Next to the house, there is a saint's flag, hoisted on a wooden pole, which shows the religiosity of the hillbilly. In the background, a forest is unveiled.
In many of Almeida Junior's paintings, he hints at the presence of a second character, but who does not appear in the painting. Em Reading, he shows a cape on an empty chair, in Saudade, presents a woman with a photograph in her hand, aiming at her, and in Amolation Interrupted, it shows the character gesturing to someone, as if it were a photograph. Unfamiliar with this artist. The painting is realistic and well done, imo. (Is that an oil lamp on the ground near the axe handle in his hand?)
Art Daily Magazine, Life and Art of Jose Ferraz de Almeida Júnior (1850–1899) Evolution of Almeida Júnior’s Style (In part) "Almeida Júnior’s most recognized works include religious and historical paintings. He was also a prolific portraitist who fulfilled a broad range of commissions for the elite of Brazilian society. His portraitures and depictions of figures were meticulous and demonstrated his great expertise in the portrayal of intense emotions, particularly the emotions of longing and despair. Despite his considerable success in religious and historical themes, Almeida Júnior moved away from these subjects to adopt more regionalist themes. The work from his later years evidences the influence of Naturalism that deviated from the rigid academic paintings of his time to more realistic portrayals." Would hang in a series. Thanks. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Two Tennessee lawmakers are calling for an investigation after the state coordinator of elections sent out over 14,000 letters asking voters for proof of their citizenship before the upcoming election.
The letter was sent a select group of Tennesseans from the state coordinator of elections, Mark Goins. The letter reads that their voter information matches with an individual who may have not been a U.S. citizen at the time they got their driver license or ID card. “On its face, this letter is voter intimidation,” State Rep. John Ray Clemmons (D-Nashville) said. The letter then asks for the voter to send back proof of their citizenship, such as their birth certificate or U.S. passport. “It gives the impression—falsely—that there is another procedural step that they must jump through before they can vote in the upcoming elections,” Clemmons said. The state coordinator of elections thinks new US citizens might vote Dem. This is blatantly trying to discourage people from voting based on who they are likely to vote for. 284 They didn't say this companies were immune. The SC said that the plaintiffs couldn't show they had been damaged so the court found no standing. It's a way judges have to avoid really sticky political issues. The judges hope the political class sorts it out
Posted by: Smell the Glove at June 26, 2024 10:52 AM (N+p0+) ========= It's a loss for our side, for the 5th Circuit, and for liberty. But it's not really a huge win for the Biden administration. They'll continue what I'm sure they've continued to do (despite the 5th's injunction), but the door isn't shut. It'd be interesting if Musk brought a companion suit as owner of X saying that he has standing. Even if Trump is elected and inaugurated, the entire US govt will #resist him, and refuse to carry out any of his orders. There will be no place for him to go to get redress.

If you want a detailed article on the Missouri SC decision, read Red States article that details some of Barrett s reasoning on the decision. Jim Hoft was a complaintant in the lawsuit so his natural reaction is to scream hyperbole headlines. Immunity is not part of the decision.

Did Elon decide not to carry it? His statement yesterday seemed pretty unequivocal. Regardless, as if we needed another reason, this should be the last time CNN has ANYTHING to do with presidential debates. Posted by: Archimedes at June 26, 2024 11:03 AM (xCA6C) 307

I guess what bothers me most on the "no standing" is it should never be a SC response.
If the rules are so muddled that lower courts don't have clear guidelines, then it's not a rule. And that's why these type of dodges harm the legitimacy of the Court. But, the Supreme Court should be an embarrassing afterthought not a prime law maker--if we were a real republic. Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at June 26, 2024 11:06 AM (6W7ES) 311

The artist, perhaps inspired by faster films during his day and looking at snapshots of people in the middle of an activity, got down and painted it.
Perhaps it was an act of surrender, as many artists had made a living doing portraits in the previous decades were all but gone, destroyed by the photography studios.
