"Cheap Fake"
If you understand the Lefty persuasion tactic - they use it every single day - their strategy is to deploy a simple phrase, usually only a few words or less. And the idea is always ALWAYS to switch up the emotion of a story. From a real one to a fake one. It's like throwing a coat of paint or a fire blanket on reality. So for example when Trump quite bravely walked through an active enemy riot to the burned out church and held up a Bible, it was extremely powerful, emotionally. So the Left immediately declared it a "Photo Op". The idea is simply to override the emotion people experience with a different feeling. It doesn't matter how false it is. All they want to do it smother the truth until they can usher people to the next bs story they hope will be in their favor. Posted by: ... at June 18, 2024 11:18 AM (EA5hs) 65

The ‘spending it as they wish’ part needs to be revised. Posted by: Dr. Claw We have to be careful not to attribute to organizations like corporations humanness. The leaders (board, CEO, etc.) decide to give donations for their own falsely claimed virtue--the stockholders by and large no longer have much if any say in the matter. Given the massive accumulation of voting rights to individuals running the large investment funds, the individual investor and their meager stake is essentially at the mercy of the rapacious elite managerial class. They are not.
They choke out funding to smaller charities on the pitch that they are better positioned to collect and manage donations. Then they dole out meager distributions. Cause their overhead and favored char get the bulk. But, they basically threaten donors to not donate directly. Oh, and you want to get involved in the administration and board. Just need you to make this "voluntary" donation to United Way first. Naturally. Do not donate to United Way. Yes, corporations use investor money to operate. Why are they allowed to "get religion" (or anti-religion) -- and are then allowed to "fundamentally transform" America (and the world) into some globalist "dream" (dystopia for the investors)? It is all done with the investor sidelined (even though investors can vote, it is generally Blackrock or other behemoths that choose the boards, I assume)
Posted by: illiniwek ====== A book from the 40's explained the process quite clearly--The Managerial Revolution by Walter Dean Burnham. Basically he describes the facade of organizations that like the US republic, where the actual functioning of them differs widely from how they are formally described. Bagehot did something similar in the 1860's regarding the unwritten British Constitution by noting that the claimed functions of the various political institutions like the House of Lords, Commons, the role of the monarch, etc. did not fit the actual power center of the government at the time which was the Cabinet. We should never forget though that it is specific identifiable people hiding behind the organizations and it is their actions that should be in the dock for crimes. Some of those charitable foundations are basically, self-funding.
Reason being, their initial endowment was so large, that the growth on the interest alone, is more than enough to fund their ongoing operations. Those are the Dream Jobs for every "non profit" CEO wannabe to be named into. CEO of the Red Cross makes well North of $400k/yr. And that's just ONE such of a long list of many similar "non profits" that pay at those levels. I would not have a quarrel with a Total Compensation Cap (not just salary, but all the Shiny Benefits, too), nailed onto a "non profit" organization. They want the 501c3 Tax Exemption? Fine. That all died and went away. What hasn't gone away - all the municipal funding requirements to keep everything going, that are no longer funded by the "middle class".

This topic brings up an issue I don't have a good answer for, and may have been out of the scope of thinking for many of the Founding Fathers.
What happens when individuals or companies have such extreme wealth and power that they rival the government, at least within certain spheres and domains. What happens when their goals are not in line with the government, or even the people? Obviously similar entities existed at the time of the founding (the was West and East India companies and such), but they worked almost as a privatized extension of the government. Rich, troublesome individuals could be (and were) seized, arrested, and executed by the monarch if required. Google, Apple, Amazon...they control information, shape public opinion by censoring some information, and boosting others, and get cover from the government because any politician running to reign them in will be horribly hindered online, with no recourse. And let's not get started on OVERSEAS, FOREIGN entities doing the same thing against our interest. Posted by: Moron Analyst at June 18, 2024 11:42 AM (JCZqz) 175

Posted by: Common Tater J.P. Morgan was no philanthropist. Like Warren Buffet, Morgan made out like a bandit from his rescue of the US Treasury in the 1890's and was instrumental in creating the current Federal Reserve to make sure that banks had the political power that was denied them by Jackson's ending of the Second National Bank. CNN's Enten: We're Watching Historic Numbers Of Black Voters Under 50 Giving Up On Democratic Party CNN's Harry Enten takes a look at polls showing black voters under 50 defecting from the Democratic Party. "Look at Black voters under the age of 50. Holy cow, folks," he said. "Joe Biden was up by 80 points among this group back at this point in 2020. Look at where that margin has careened down towards. It's just -- get this -- 37 points. That lead has dropped by more than half." "I've just never seen anything like this. I'm, like, speechless... We are looking at a historic moment right now where Black voters under the age of 50, who have historically been such a big part of the Democratic coalition, are leaving it in droves." https://tinyurl.com/3t6hvycw Posted by: Archimedes at June 18, 2024 11:52 AM (xCA6C) 220

Posted by: Common Tater at June 18, 2024 11:45 AM (d2aM4) Homes here in Alberta used to have "milk chutes". Little cubicles in the wall next to the front door. A door on the outside, and a door on the inside, offset to one side. Milk man would open the outside door, place one or two bottle inside. Householder would retrieve milk via the inside door. Kept milk from freezing on the porch in winter. When I was a small kid, we had milkman, and a bread man on daily rounds, and itinerant veggie sellers, in season. Right, but there used to be whole fleets of getting stuff delivered.
Buying gasoline meant they would wash your winders, maybe check the tires, oil, coolant if necessary. Fuck, they wore uniforms. If you're living in the decline, you will notice it, though maybe not until it is pointed out. Travel around the world and it really becomes evident. The fact is, it was possible to eke out a living doing manual labor, after a fashion. This is no longer the case, and needs to pointed out repeatedly everytime people start talking about how great it will be when Robots do all that stuff. Well OK. Then why is it "necessary" to import all these manual labor workers? They are gonna support all you Boomers in your Retirement. Save Social Security! Does anyone believe that? Young people have every right to be pissed off, the problem is the focus of their frustration will not go where it needs to go. It rarely does and that is probably not by accident. @76/People's Hippo Voice: "Do not donate to United Way."
Everything you said is spot on. They're basically a massive grift organization. At my last job, there was pretty intense pressure by management to participate in the automatic deductions from your pay to let the corporation donate all that to the United Way. I wrote my name on the envelope for the form that got dropped off my desk, shredded the form, stuffed the shredded strands into the envelope, and returned it to our UW coordinator. I wasn't the only one either. Did we get pressured in response? Sure did. Didn't bow to it though. If the company wanted to donate to the United Way and get all those social bragging rights, it could do so with its own profits, not my wages. I earned those, I get to say what they're spent on. The Mail man. Maybe the Coal man. Or the Ice man (same company depending on time of year). The Rag man would pay money for rags. The Meter Man would stop by to read the electricity meter. If you had oil heat the Oil guy would need to fill up. Then the Milk man would drop stuff off in the morning. The Paper Boy would deliver all the newspapers, sometimes twice a day. Mail delivery was twice a day for quite a while, at least for businesses maybe. In London, they would have 8 deliveries. Gals at home would write "What do you want, we're having roast beef sammiches today" etc. Send a letter home to figure out what lunch is going to be. One thing that would help a Barista (or anyone else) is to scrap the tax and "refund" system. Nobody who makes less than say, 500k owes any taxes. That's fair. No "refunds" or credits either. My dad once suggested that they should only tax people who make under say, 200K a year. Sounds kind of devious to me, but that might work. The Firearm Blog (TFB) has a long running weekly feature of 'hot gat or fudd crap' feature of pictures of strange looking firearms that have been 'customized' for better or worse on auction sites. Readers get to vote thumbs up or down on the specific featured firearm of the week. Posted by: whig at June 18, 2024 12:07 PM (/0X3E) 284
They earn over a million when they leave office for pension. I am here to tell you, as someone who had to sign off on exec comp structures, $400k for a CEO is nothing. A total package is going to be multi million for a company of any size, about $5-6m base and the rest stock up getting to about $25M/ year. This is average. 244 I never understood why all these charities went Marxism and give big cash to Leftists. BLM made hundreds of millions, never filed a IRS document for them and they got pocketed by the BLM high ups
Posted by: Skip at June 18, 2024 11:57 AM (kDPvc) ------- People drawn to charitable work are typically focused on the feelings of others, and feel a strong bond toward collective efforts. The gap between their hard-wired natural inclinations and the sweet promises of Marxism is very small. To step back in the moment and apply reason is really a big ask for most of them. That's why they'll always be easy targets for grifters. Posted by: insurgens ad opus at June 18, 2024 12:10 PM (OQ3w/) 286

283 During the second helping of Vietnam, the Air Force had a base wide shake down for unauthorized weapons, for reasons. This included me and my fellow Jarheads. Stuff confiscated from us wound up in our armory. Included was a nickel or chrome plated M3 SMG and a Luger that mysteriously disappeared. Slippery little group armorer.

273 They purposefully killed the organization's virtue to get money today and that itself will attract the grifter class to finish gutting the organization. The small reliable donors and volunteers will quit, the grifters will move in, and the served population will suffer.

Posted by: illiniwek Burnham was originally a Marxist and became a staunch conservative by the 50's and worked for National Review for a time as well as a professor of history at UT. He came up with political realignment theory as well as his Managerial Revolution book. Posted by: whig at June 18, 2024 12:19 PM (/0X3E) 293
Great post, CBD.
"Many Catholic charities are heavily invested in crashing the southern border,..." Those Catholic charities were rewarded with billions of your tax money to 'assist' settling 'migrants' starting around 2013. After Barry Soetoro was re-elected and term limited. I like term limits, but the second term can be of grave consequences to the country. Posted by: Danimal28 at June 18, 2024 01:14 PM (klw0w) Processing 0.05, elapsed 0.0605 seconds. |
