7 Efficiency cores make a lot of sense. I could almost see the trend continuing. Essentially having "neighborhoods" on a chip dedicated to 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit, and 64-bit calculations.

Why soak up cycle times on 64-bit hardware to compare two booleans?

(Well, i mean, "why" is because the software to manage all that hopscotching of threads would be a nightmare. But someone will figure it out. )

8 A+ to Buck on the ONT for the kinky turtle lyrics.

Lead on, O kinky turtle
The day of march has come;
Henceforth in fields of conquest
Thy tents shall be our home.
Through days of preparation
Thy grace has made us strong;
And now, O kinky turtle,
We lift our battle song.

12 7 Efficiency cores make a lot of sense. I could almost see the trend continuing. Essentially having "neighborhoods" on a chip dedicated to 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit, and 64-bit calculations.

They already do that to some degree. A 64-bit register can be used to store and multiply two 32-bit values, or four 16-bit values, or eight 8-bit values.

It's not perfect, because eight 8-bit multipliers are a lot simpler than a single 64-bit multiplier, but it's a lot better than doing the calculations one at a time.

14 Ah, I was beginning to despair.

I now have new health insurance and I decided to use it. I found out:

* I can't use my old doctor, I have to get a new one.

* I need to see an opthamologist, but I have to see the new PCP in order to get a referral.

* I went down to where the insurance company said the new PCP worked, and they told me she didn't work there, but rather over in the medical center.

* I was broke yesterday and in order to get to the hospital where they sent me from her old work place in Pasadena, I had to park at the Zoo.

* I finally get there, and "You're supposed to call, hopefully somewhere around 6 AM, to get an appointment lined up..."

I was hoping to get all this done before going back to work about the middle of next week, BUT...

So I'm still struggling with the sleep cycle of the Upside-Down, and tired. And feel like I've had the run-around.

The previous doctor was 5 minutes away on Beltway 8. The next one was in Pasadena, about 20 minutes away on the other end of the tunnel. (Oddly you can take Shaver to get to the underground passage if you're going North... I think...)

The medical district is farther away.

I'll figure things out "Tomorrow..."

15 The Chinese Hygon 8 core CPU matches multi-threaded performance of a three-generation old AMD CPU in Geekbench.

My current desktop uses a 7th gen i7 and it does everything I need. I know. That is almost as old as me. The Chicoms will eventually sort how to build a modern CPU because they don't have a choice. Besides, what that can't figure out they will just steal if they haven't already.

Until then they will be kicking out they equivalent of 49cc mopeds which you should never buy unless you have the time, equipment, and parts to rebuild it right out of the box.

Yeah. This chip is already good enough for most users. Steer clear of Windows 11 and it should run fine.

My two Linux boxes are six-core Zen 3 chips, not that much faster than this, and they zoom through most of my work.

19 Evening and morning for a hot almost-summer Friday (or a cool almost-winter for Pixy) . . . Summer in Da Swamp, of course, began in March and will last until December, the hell with June 22 and September 22.

I did some calisthenics and stretching instead of a full workout. Seeing as I've already clocked three solid sessions this week, I guess I've earned a couple of days off.

Today should be another light day at work. My boss is still in Germany, teaching, so I can tiptoe out early as well.

Who do they think they are? Ferrari? Apple? If I was buying the company I would make them pay me minimum $10 million to take it off their hands. 36 Teh Barnaby Jones series lasted from 1973 to 1980 or so, and yet both Barnaby and his daughter-in-law Betty drove pretty much the same cars the whole time. Barnaby preferred a brown two-door full-size Ford (or maybe it was a Mercury in some seasons), while Betty made do with the same reddish-orange Pinto with whitewall tires. (You could still get whitewalls in the '70s without paying ridiculous prices for them.)

Theirs was now a struggling detective firm, either. Barnaby owned a horse and a ranch (at least we saw that in an early episode), and Betty had been married to his son, who'd owned the prosperous investigative firm he'd taken over from Barnaby and which Jones took over again after his son's murder in the pilot.

I guess they were not supposed to be very materialistic.

The Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run has renamed itself after 40 years to the Michigan Flight Museum. So much for the value of a name. Idiots.

And they have sold the centrepiece of their collection, the B-17G "Yankee Lady" to an unnamed buyer for an undisclosed sum. The MFM says in the press release they had become too dependent upon the revenues generated by the B-17G and will use the proceeds of the sale to make investments to support the museum.

89 Great news VIA! That's got to be quite a relief.

I was thinking about Jewels yesterday and I don't think I've seen her here for a while. Does anybody know how she is doing?

90 G'morning, all!So yesterday's radiation oncology follow-up went well.

I am now considered cancer free.

Will have to do surveillance bloodwork for the rest of my life, but that's OK!

91 42 There are tablets excavated from Babylonian sites of children's homework from Akkadian class with the teacher's notes and corrections in the margins.

Not really relevant but i still love that that is a thing.

How many weeks did it take the teacher to etch a 3-hour exam?
How long did it take a kid to 'etch' his homework answers? Did he miss supper? "Sorry Teach, my chisel broke and the Obsidian R Us shop was closed."

93 As I understand it, Lunar Lake is an intermediate between hyper threading and something called 'rentable units'. But because turntable units are really ready yet, and the hyper threading hardware was causing single thread performance penalties, so right now, it has neither.

I'm a lot more ambivalent on E cores. The problem seems to be that now you've got two separate design pipelines, so Intel has been managing to design neither their P cores nor their E Cores well. I mean at this point it's looking like Zen 5's single type core is going to be both cheaper to build, while being both just as capable as the Lunar Lake P cores, and as efficient as it's E cores, without being hardware bound to be only one or the other.

95 Being in the tech field, I seriously enjoy my morning more when they start with Pixy Misa links and commentary.

"It's sugar-free, non-fat, decaf, gluten-free goodness all-around", he typed as he took another sip of his Diet Coke and reached for another donut.
