61 Okay, this is aboard a ship just off the coast of . . . where? Northern Germany? What castle is that ashore to the left?

There are nice stage setting details, like the coil of rope on the deck, the rigging just behind Isolde, and the sail above their heads; and that mast behind Isolde looks like it's been through some heavy weather.

Plus, just behind Tristan, we see his helmet and sword. And a flagon of something red, wine probably, on the flat surface (a bulwark? not sure) below their hands.

145 Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s Conspiracy Theory of Western Decline. To explain trends she dislikes, she embraces a tale of subversion.

The core of Ali’s argument is that much of today’s social and cultural turmoil in the United States, and generally in Western countries—or, at least, the destabilizing trends on the left—are the product of deliberate anti-Western subversion.

Who are those enemies of the West? Ali identifies a trifecta: American Marxists, who have switched from Soviet communism to “cultural communism” (a “fusion of racial, class, and anticolonial struggles”; “radical Islamists” represented by groups like the Muslim Brotherhood; and the Chinese Communist Party.

Ali's explanation relies on the late Soviet defector Yuri Bezmenov. Many people agree with Ali that “Western” values—“the rule of law, a tradition of liberty, personal responsibility, a system of representative government, a toleration of difference, and a commitment to pluralism”—are under attack. But the attack is not coming only from the left. Paranoia about left-wing subversion can feed right-wing desires for an authoritarian state that crushes Western values while crushing the insidious enemy.

As with many Bulwark and other Lefty articles, it long, pointless and repetitive, so there is no real direct challenge. Just this blanket CYA:

Ali concedes that Bezmenov’s formulation of “subversion” may not explain or address “all the West’s problems.” However, she writes, “once I immersed myself in his formulation, many of the topsy-turvy developments in our institutions fell into place.”

Of course they did. That’s how conspiracy theory works: Everything falls into place once you accept it. And it’s unfalsifiable.

Is he still going to vote for Schumer's priorities?

If he's just making rhetorical noises to appeal to more moderate voters, it will end up strengthening the left by making him more appealing to the right and middle while retaining the seat (assuming elections, blah blah blah, my election nonsense) and continuing to vote for everything against what we want.

He's still advocating for open borders. He just doesn't like the anti-Israel part of his party.

Here's a nickle's worth of free advice, Chelsea. Fiddy is rich, famous, aggressive and decent-looking. If he wants some tail, he can get it and as much of it as he wants, from women younger, tighter, prettier, less disagreeable and all-around better than you. Your offer has no value to a man like him, and you are projecting your own standards to stroke your ego. You view "pulling" a dude like Fiddy as an achievement because you know full well that men like him are the ones who actually do the pulling. A man like Fiddy, on the other hand, views pulling a woman like you as a chore.

"Subject yourself to unnecessary chores" is not an inducement, even *if* you were still desirable.

331 Speaking of, I listened to Corey Feldman being interviewed by Harland Williams recently.

Corey's been through the ringer, of course, and it turns out Harland is about as decent a guy as there is in that business, in addition to being funny as hell.

Corey is a flake, of course, but he seems to have emerged with some measure of peace in his life. I hope so, at least.

I feel bad for Feldman. You experience what he experienced and all anyone takes away from it is that you're a cheeseball weirdo.

He was one of the first to come out with the whole hollywood pedophile thing and they destroyed him for it. He's flakey because they f*cked him up so bad, he abused drugs and such. He did everything he could to get the story of Corey Haim out there and get him help, but they blackballed him and tried to ruin his life.

Never named a name, though, while defending Michael Jackson from his accusers.

Suspicious.

I mean...the whole pedophile angle on Hollywood tracks pretty easily. A century of evidence suggests it's wholly, completely, and undoubtedly true, but Feldman doesn't seem like a guy interested in doing much of anything other than drawing attention to himself.

Judging from his most recent picture, I'd say it's debatable. I've seen mummies that looked more alive. Disturbing in the extreme.

Prostitution is the only crime that miraculously becomes legal so long as you document it on video.

She should've offered to film a sex tape with Fiddy if he does what she says. That would be perfectly legal!

342 Watching the way the Left plays narrative king of the hill is hilarious.

They are very good at it but I suspect it's because they crowdsource and focus group their messaging.

A prominent black man steps outside their preferred narrative and makes headlines that generate a particular emotion, they get a somewhat famous white awfl to message larger and override it.

And it is what they do. If you look for it, you see a lot and learn a lot. It's another reason they hate Trump so much. He does instinctually what they pay millions for.

Posted by: polynikes at June 07, 2024 10:49 AM (SHMXB)

It's not unlike the government shutdown argument. One time, Clinton out-maneuvered them on it, and they got burned by the issue.

In 2022, when there was NO momentum for the Republican congress, because they had done nothing to cause anyone to vote for them, the Dems had a temporary bump from the abortion issue. So their voters showed up.

Now the R party has a ready-made excuse to shy away from the issue, because it "caused" them to lose one election they never really contested.

He did say Charlie Sheen sodomized Haim between RV Trailers during the filming of Lucas because "everyone does this."

He also claimed several threats on his life should he reveal names. Maybe one day he will. All the attention he brought to himself on this really didn't gain him much notoriety or fame, so.........

He's also not on any important committee, so all he has is his floor vote to affect anything of substance.

And he votes in line with everyone else in his party.

I remember how the question of how Romney would vote on Trump's impeachment consumed many on the right. No one on the left wondered about that over Tester or Sinema or Manchin. They knew they'd fall in line. Fetterman is no different.

354 307. Remind me, was his wife a legal immigrant - might that affect his stance on this? Having family who came here legally, an understanding of the years, many forms, rules and costs it takes to attain legal citizenship, I can see how that might make one unhappy at the free pass these illegal border-crossers are getting.
Posted by: Lizzy

Illegal. It's an act. John Fetterman is carrying the state of PA for Democrats/progressives.

In part, "Gisele Fetterman was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.[2][3] When she was seven years old, Fetterman came to the United States as an undocumented immigrant with her mother and younger brother, taking up residence in a one-room apartment in New York City.[4][2][5] They left Brazil due to violent crime in their community.[2][6] In New York, the family lived in poverty, and furnished their apartment with furniture they found on the street.[4] Fetterman said that her family often depended on food banks and thrift stores.[2] Her mother, who had a PhD degree from a Brazilian university and had worked as a nutritionist and educator, took jobs cleaning hotels and houses, and was often denied pay due to her status as an illegal immigrant.[2][6] Wiki
