Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi, D-Torrance, said Thursday that lawmakers next week will begin negotiating with Gov. Gavin Newsom to place the two bonds on the November ballot. The governor, Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, D-Hollister, and Senate President Pro Tem Mike McGuire, D-Healdsburg, face a June 27 deadline to qualify measures for the general election. Last night I mentioned the huge storm that hit Tyler last night - the entire city spent the day cleaning up, and there are still several streets blocked. (most of the streets in my neighborhood were blocked by downed trees/downed power lines this morning) I got really lucky - several limbs down, but none too big for me to deal with. 2 houses took big trees through the roof within a block of me, I think a report said 250 large trees came down in the city last night from 8 to 8:30.

Piss tubes are handy, the problem is urine is really corrosive, and residue gets stale and (almost) as stinky as feces. Nasty stuff. I experimented some years ago with a 10% dilution rate for my houseplant (singular) and it seems to like it.
The Apollo Project spacecraft had some interesting design strategies. They did look at something very similar to a funnel system but they needed to prevent leakage. They found dumping the urine caused small but significant changes to the spacecraft trajectory. I’d really not like to think about taking a dump in a spacecraft. They tried to minimize the frequency by eating low residue foods, but sooner or later … On long flights (like to Mars), they will almost certainly have to recycle their piss. My neighbor's massive yet healthy tree took a dive onto my south lawn, the roots were shallow but fully water saturated soil. Dick Gordon, CMP on Apollo 12 pranked his crewmates by putting his fecal bags in the food locker.
The way the early astronauts had to take a dump was a bad deal. A gallon of whole milk weighs about 8 pounds. It's got milk fat solids and so is denser than piss, but might weigh slightly less. In any case, if you managed to fill a forty, you must've lost about 2-3 pounds. Impressive. Given enough time, water, and dedication, you show the aptitude to piss yourself to death. I think the prohibition for Mormons - is “hot drinks”, which is intended or interpreted to mean coffee and tea? I dunno.
My theory - coffee especially, and tea - are imports. Check out how much a single pound of coffee cost at the Rondezvous in the 1830s and 1840s. A wise leader of a vulnerable… group … would try to discourage that kind of thing. Booze, tobacco, and other vices cost too much money, that could be spent on better pursuits. Utilitarian? I dunno. Trick is not to just spray anesthesia in the nostril, or on the end of the scope, which is about a foot long. I've had it rough. I prefer it...gentle.
You have to evenly lubricate the tube with anesthesia the entire length. That's the best way. Kind of like greasing your midlife cock with numbing agent so you can fuck for thirteen hours. But only a cock that's a foot long, wide as a thick spaghetti, and bends. Down your throat. I'm going to get gently nose-fucked by a long, slender camera tomorrow right before breakfast. LEGACY WINS US congressman Donald Payne Jr. wins New Jersey election despite dying weeks ago due to bizarre state ballot rules
That happened in the county I grew up in in California. The popular county sheriff was running for reelection, and dropped dead of a heart attack after the filing deadline. His only opponent was a guy who had been kicked off the Houston police department for police brutality. So, everyone banded together to reelect the sheriff one more time, so that he could be replaced by appointing a reasonable person after the election. California election law was then changed to briefly reopen the filing window if an incumbent died after the filing deadline. Posted by: The ARC of History! at June 04, 2024 11:50 PM (uxCna) 311

Wally (nor Walt Cunningham, nor Don Eisele) ever flew again after Apollo 7.
Schirra was mainly asserting his command prerogative, and this did not go over well with the boys on the ground. He viewed Apollo 7 as strictly an engineering test flight (which it was) and he declined in no uncertain terms they weren't going to crank up the TV broadcast (unscheduled, now moved up 24 hours) right in the middle of a course correction burn, something like that. He did have balls, they tried to diplomatically talk him into it, he said "discussion over, we're not doing it". Then they wanted all three to be suited and helmeted up during re-entry. This would preclude being able to perform a Valsalva maneuver, to clear eustachian tubes in the ears. He had a bad head cold. Can't blame him there either - this is REALLY painful, if you can't clear it you will regret it. But they made it clear. No medals for you, no more flights. Some people say nicotine withdrawal made him grumpy. Practically all the Mercury guys were chain smokers (excepting John Glenn, naturally). Why didn't he bring some Skoal? Wouldn't NASA docs have figured nicotine withdrawal would be a bad deal? Posted by: Common Tater at June 05, 2024 12:06 AM (6LjpC) 349
Yeah. NASA originally used pencils, mechanical ones, for the astronauts. Spent over $100 a piece for them, and there was some outcry (early shades of Pentagon $800 whatever it was). But, they found that little pieces, conductive pieces floated off as mentioned above. It was also a fire hazard. I'm trying to think of some incident where a piece of something did apparently short a circuit board out aboard the LM or something. On 11, they bashed one of the myriad circuit breakers with their backpacks. It was an important one, and Aldrin used part of a pen barrel to hold it closed.
I think it was 14, maybe, one of the flights had the "Abort" switch itself, the LM, had an intermittent short. They deduced a solder ball floating around making contact. This was a real problem, because it would have jettisoned the descent stage whenever. So the brainiacs at MIT ( they had about 2 hours to fix the software code, get it sent to the test simulator astronauts to test it, get it approved, read up to the crew....) figured out a workaround and fool the computer not to abort or ignore spurious signals, while retaining the ability to abort when or if required. They were some amazing software guys and gals back then. I've read the way code is written today, they wouldn't be able to do that. Posted by: Common Tater at June 05, 2024 12:20 AM (6LjpC) 377

Shepard ran the Astronaut office, and put himself back in as commander on the next flight after he was cleared medically to fly again, he had from Menier's disease. He hadn't flown in years. This also bumped a lot of guys, shuffling the schedule. Total dick move.
He scheduled himself on Apollo 13, management said no, you need to train, and they compromised and put him on 14 with Ed Mitchell. That's how Lovell, Haise, and Mattingly/Swigert ended up on 13 I think. So he lucked out too. Sort of. Posted by: Common Tater at June 05, 2024 12:37 AM (6LjpC) 413

They started putting locks on the hatch of the Shuttle, because one of the "payload specialists" wigged out when his experiment that he had been working on for years failed. He wanted more time to work on it, get it going, and Mission Control said "sorry". "If you won't let me continue, I'm not coming back" he said. One night, according to an old timer, one of the Sheriff's Deputies was driving through and noticed a crowd in the parking lot. The astronauts had balls of titanium-berrylium, it is unreal how brave they were, the more you study the program. They deserve the attention of course.
But after looking at the entirety of it, what amazes me too, is how people can administrate and organize all the different hardware and components, 400,000 different people, a bazillion different ideas and concerns and problems and make sure everything flows and fits together and works. I truly don't understand where they find people like that. James Webb got the telescope named after him for some pretty good reasons. Frank Borman once quipped, only half joking I think, that he wished he would have been SecDef instead of McNamara. Bob Seamans was another guy. Rocco Petrone was a major in the Army when he was tasked to build the whole shootin' match at the Cape, basically. He was in charge of launch operations. It's interesting to read leadership and management styles. He was very knowledgeable about systems, and he expected people giving a briefing to be as well. He fired one guy on the spot, because when asked a question - he didn't say "I don't know", he tried to bullshit him. Just removed him off the podium physically. Doing things in less than 1g takes some getting used to. NASA has this contraption (well one of several) that is used to simulate 1/6 and Mars 1/3 gravity. You get suited up in his harness thing, hooked to control arm that moves on a frame above you. It lifts you up with enough force to maintain the simulated lower gravity. It's not a perfect simulation, but it's close enough. I watched some TV showing that. You get some people, cold, hook them up to that, and have them try various simple things. The results are hilarious. Try to lift something. Or use a shovel. Or a hammer. You end falling all over yourself. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at June 05, 2024 01:30 AM (w6EFb) 469

They ask where 13 is going to land. They then turn it over to some young nerd looking guy, hell maybe it's yer buddy back in the day. DOCKING in orbit, was a MONSTER feat done by Gemini, long before the Apollo Computer was ever a thing. Read about young Neil Armstrong and Gemini 8. Docking with an Agena test vehicle. There were problems. It turned out to be a stuck thruster on the Gemini spacecraft. It sent them rolling out of control. They thought at first it was a problem with the Agena, but it was the Gemini. It was Neil Armstrong's cool head that saved the day. The spacecraft could've easily started tumbling out of control. The "spin" rate got enough where they could've blacked out, but Armstrong saved the day. That's one of the reasons he was selected to be the First Man on the Moon. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at June 05, 2024 02:17 AM (w6EFb) 511

There was all kinds of speculation on whether humans could operate in a weightless environment. They just didn't know. Can food and water be swallowed? What happens to blood pressure, will the heart work correctly? There were remarkably few problems, but it is interesting how many scientists had theories that turned out to be completely wrong.
That was why they did all sorts of bizarre tests on the initial groups of candidates, at a private clinic called Lovelace. Submerge your feet in ice water for a half hour or so, and watch as you try to perform algebra equations or whatever. In retrospect pretty stupid, but. Some real sadistic wack jobs doing all sorts of crazy stuff. Psychologically, kind of looking for opposites. A gregarious team player - who also doesn't mind being completely alone for long periods. When one is first exposed to weightlessness, free fall, here is what happens. One starts having to pee like a sonuvabitch. In 1g, you have a certain fluid distribution. When you is in free fall, that fluid gets to accumulating in the center of your body. Your kidneys going into overdrive. Soon, you get into butterball configuration. There was apparently a "heart attack" on the Moon, Apollo 15. Look it up. One of the astronauts had a pretty bad irregular heart beat episode. It was pretty bad, and scared the flight surgeons. One quick Neil Armstrong anecdote to add to the others - he spent roughly eight years teaching undergrad and graduate classes in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cincinnati after stepping away from NASA. He always opened the first class of every semester with the statement "I know you want to ask me about it (the Lunar Landing, of course), so here's your chance. After this, though, I don't want to discuss it any further."

Miley got me this weather station for my birfday. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at June 05, 2024 04:11 AM (w6EFb) 575

Can you link me to a serious study which shows that the rise in cancer among younger age groups only began after the vax became available?
- Assuming you're looking for something "official" from the same people that pushed the vaccine and insisted you mask up while entering their office, unless (similar to filing a FOIA request) you know the exact phrasing and mispellings to get the request to work. I doubt you could easily search for something about a worldwide effort among governments and the medical industry to promote giving people cancer. We know there was something that happened in 2020-2021 to boost cancer rates, though. Pesky number crunchers keep noticing numbers: "We show a large increase in mortality due malignant neoplasms that started in 2021 and accelerated substantially in 2022. The increase in excess deaths in 2022, is highly statistically significant (extreme event). The results indicate that from late 2021 a novel phenomenon leading to increased malignant neoplasm deaths appears to be present in individuals aged 15 to 44 in the UK." https://tinyurl.com/yw6q8xyo Posted by: Moron Robbie - WHY ARE YOU TRUMP SUPPORTERS SO HAPPY?!!! at June 05, 2024 04:15 AM (23ZaS) 579

I'm gaining some respect for cousin, the re-tard meteorolgist. That last little storm front that passed over us. He said, we're we gonna get a gust front of maybe 20-25mph when it passed us. My station recorded a gust of 20.6 mph. We didn't get hardly any rain of out it. Looking at the radar, it sort of split, then recombined after passing over us. Which was good. Ground is saturated now. Didn't need any more. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at June 05, 2024 04:33 AM (w6EFb) 587
Here's another coincidence from the CDC. The formatting is terrible so the increases won't be posted, but it's interesting to search for "Mortality in the United States, 2021" (replace the year as appropriate) for CDC info:
"Did age-specific death rates in 2021 change from 2020 for those aged 1 year and over? From 2020 to 2021, death rates increased for each age group 1 year and over (Figure 3). https://tinyurl.com/24bd7ls4 Posted by: Moron Robbie - WHY ARE YOU TRUMP SUPPORTERS SO HAPPY?!!! at June 05, 2024 04:34 AM (23ZaS) 588
"Safe and effective!"
- I suggest again that the communists weren't lying. They were doing what communists do and saying the absolute 100% truth, but doing it with a knowing smirk. Some shots were safe. Some shots were effective. Posted by: Moron Robbie - WHY ARE YOU TRUMP SUPPORTERS SO HAPPY?!!! at June 05, 2024 04:35 AM (23ZaS) 589
