Her Majesty has made it to Rawlings, WY. Diana has been a good traveler, despite not eating her food and not exercising on a leash. HM is only driving for 4 or 5 hours a day. Watching TV yesterday before the proclamation (I refuse to call it a verdict) Kevin O'Leary, Mr. Wonderful on Shark Tank, said he was in Europe last week trying to raise large amounts of capital for data centers. His potential investors kept asking him "what the hell is going on with Trump? We thought the USA was above this kind of crap."
He said they wouldn't stop asking about it and more than once told him if America was indeed turning into a Banana Republic, they would have to reconsider investing in American businesses because of the safety the (former) legal system provided to protect their investments. Banana republics don't have that safety and that's why they don't invest there. O'Leary said the farce trial was destroying the "American Brand" around the world with those that have money. Oh, and they didn't invest on this trip, a surprise to Kevin. The damage that crooked judge and AG in New York have caused will soon be affecting everyone, and in a very negative way. I think the Dems' plan was to have the verdict delivered and read right after the financial markets closed on FRIDAY. This would have given them time to come up with a plan to settle things down over the weekend. Merchon had already announced that the jury would adjourn today and deliberate tomorrow, but, oopsie, the jury was wrapped it up a day early. Now it's bad, because the financial markets and investors have 20 hours to mull over events after the 38 count guilty verdicts. People will talk about this all weekend. OOPSIE.

I trim it, cube it, then crumble it in a food processor, adding a few ingredients to made my own ham salad. So much less oily/greasy than the canned deviled ham. I also make my own 'roast beef spread' from a couple of chuck steaks. Trimmed, cubed, boiled in water and a little tomato sauce. When tender, add seasonings (paprika, etc.) and proceed to break the cubes apart with a wooden spatula, reducing the liquid, until you have a thick meat paste. Freezes well, too. One huge difference between Caesar and Trump: Caesar was actually guilty of a lot of what they were charging him with. Mostly bribery (which he openly bragged of) but also a more procedural charge of conducting official business on a holy day (which had been set up by his consular colleague Bibulus) after Bibulus had declared ALL days in the remainder of their term were Holy Days to block Caesar from being able to carry out his agenda.

I've always been more sympathetic to Caesar. The late republic (which Americans seem to mythologize as an ancient America) was dysfunctional. It was already an empire with huge overseas holdings and unable to keep it together domestically so that there was repeated civil strife. For Joe Six-Amphorae, internal peace and stability under Caesar would be far preferable to disorder under the senate. I'd make the same choice in the here and now. We're a lot less free than we believe; if the oligarchs and kleptocrats can't at least manage relative peace and prosperity, then they have nothing to offer but nostalgia for institutions that we're never as pristine as advertised and that are quite tarnished now.
