The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“if Biden won again he could be much more forthright about saying ‘No’ [to Israel],” stating that the administration would have more freedom to tell Israel “‘you’re not going to continue to lie, and bomb, and kill all these kids without facing serious consequences.’”
Biden White House staffer Sterlin Waters, a cyber policy advisor for the National Security Council,

Quote II

"The way I see it, if you do the crime, you'd better be willing to do the time. They certainly, if they absolutely wanted to, the punishment could have been far worse, so I'm not upset about anything. I understand that there were going to be consequences for it."Spc. Matthew Tattersall

Quote III

“[T]here is nothing problematic about a justice selling his stock in a company because it is losing its share value.

If he made a speech in which he disparaged trans people or opined that such people were undeserving of equal rights, we’d be having a different conversation,”Charles Geyh, a professor at Indiana University Bloomington Maurer School of Law

Solar storms are simply no longer a threat

Today’s Chicken Little Report: When NOAA predicted on May 9, 2024 that a powerful solar flare had erupted from the Sun and was aiming a major solar storm directly at the Earth, the scientists at the federal government’s Space Weather Prediction Center could not help underlining the disaster potential, and were ably aided by the mainstream press. This CNN report was typical:

“Geomagnetic storms can impact infrastructure in near-Earth orbit and on Earth’s surface, potentially disrupting communications, the electric power grid, navigation, radio and satellite operations,” according to the Space Weather Prediction Center. “(The center) has notified the operators of these systems so they can take protective action.”

The center has notified operators in these areas to take action to mitigate the potential for any impacts, which include the possibility of increased and more frequent voltage control problems. Other aspects operators will monitor include a chance of anomalies or impacts to satellite operations and frequent or longer periods of GPS degradation.

One of my inside sources sent me the following email from the wondrous EPA to its employees.......

epajpeg.jpg

Colleagues,

We have a shared responsibility to create a diverse and inclusive workplace, where equal employment opportunity exists for all employees, including transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming employees.

EPA is committed to treating all employees with dignity and respect and providing a workplace free from discrimination. A mutually respectful work environment is everyone's responsibility, and discrimination on any basis, including on the basis of gender identity, expression, or perceived non-conformity, is never acceptable.

OPM guidance and EPA policy state transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming employees may access EPA and federally controlled restrooms and other facilities corresponding to their gender identity. Moreover, EPA’s policy makes clear that no employee should be required to use a segregated facility apart from other employees because of their gender identity or transgender status. Furthermore, OPM’s guidance and EPA’s policy affirm that an employee may not be asked to provide medical or legal documentation of their gender identity to use facilities they feel are appropriate to their gender identity. These policies apply to:

EPA field sites, such as Superfund Sites, where the agency controls the space within which restroom facilities exists for the exclusive or primary use of EPA employees and others.
Leased spaces that specifically include bathrooms controlled by EPA.
Buildings entirely leased by the federal government or EPA.
Buildings where EPA partially leases space and such space includes restroom facilities exclusively for EPA use.

These policies do not apply to facilities that are not controlled exclusively by the federal government or EPA.

Employees who believe they have been discriminated against, including harassment based on their gender identity or transgender status, have a right to file an EEO complaint with the Office of Civil Rights. To address incidents of harassment, an employee also can initiate the 4711 EPA anti-harassment process by contacting OMS’s Labor, Suitability and Conduct Division in accordance with the guidance provided in EPA’s annual Anti-Harassment Policy Statement.

Inclusion isn’t always easy…but inclusion, mutual understanding, and kindness are for everyone. Thank you for continuing to keep EPA a safe, inclusive, and productive place to work. If you have questions about inclusive access to facilities or the agency’s general policy on transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming employees, please contact:

Regional Human Resources Officers (for employees in regional offices).
Program Management Officers (for employees in a program office).
Policy - Accountability and HR Policy Branch (OHR_PPTD_PAB@epa.gov).

For EEO related questions or assistance, you can:

Access the OCR page at OCR Contact.

Now AI is being used in the child porn world.

MAY 21--A Wisconsin software engineer used an artificial intelligence program to create thousands of “hyper-realistic” images of prepubescent children engaged in sexual activity, according to investigators who allege that the accused man shared some of the photos with a 15-year-old boy.

A federal indictment charges Steven Anderegg, 42, with producing and distributing obscene visual depictions of minors.

Anderegg, seen at right, used the Stable Diffusion generative AI model to make the illicit images, which showed minors “lasciviously displaying or touching their genitals” and engaged in sexual activity with adult males.

A search of Anderegg’s laptop revealed that he allegedly used “extremely specific and explicit prompts to create these images” via the text-to-image AI model, according a government court filing. He also allegedly used “negative” prompts to “avoid creating images that depict adults.”

Just because you tell someone a story, doesn't make it true.

Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz sparred with Secretary of State Antony Blinken Tuesday over the Biden administration’s decision to pause a key weapons shipment to Israel.

“Senator, I was in Israel five days since Oct. 7. I’ve been there seven times since. No one, starting with President Biden, has done more to make sure they have what they need to defend themselves from Hamas to deal with the threat that Hamas’ poses,” Blinken told Cruz. “[You’re] simply wrong.”

“That is ludicrous! Why have you cut off weapons to Israel, then?” Cruz responded.

Californians were heard to mutter, "We don't need no stinking prosperity."

The War on Gasoline a Gift to Trump
The Wall Street Journal says Gavin Newsom’s War on Gasoline Is a Gift to Donald Trump.

California’s prices are the highest in the country—$5.21 a gallon on average vs. $3.59 nationwide—owing to hefty taxes and burdensome regulations, such as its cap-and-trade program and low-carbon fuel standard. Here’s the rub: California refineries supply nearly 90% of Nevada’s gasoline and half of Arizona’s.

Mr. Newsom is escalating his war on the industry. The California Energy Commission is planning to impose a tax on refineries’ “gross margins”—i.e., the difference between wholesale gasoline and crude prices plus certain regulatory costs. The gross margin notably doesn’t include refiners’ operating costs, which include employee pay.

Mr. Newsom conflates profits and gross margins. According to the commission’s data, refiners lost between 10 and 38 cents on each gallon they produced from October 2023 through February 2024, while their gross margins ranged from 56 to 79 cents a gallon. In December, California refineries lost 31 cents a gallon while the state imposed $1.15 a gallon in taxes and regulatory fees.

Sling shots are still in use. Don't believe me, just ask our Genius Award Winner.

PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- Pasadena police Monday announced the arrest of a 63-year-old man suspected of setting off more than 150 unidentified explosions over a nearly two-year span.

Art Leon Berian was arrested and booked last Thursday and now faces three felony counts of possession of explosives with intent to injure or intimidate, according to police. Bail was set at $1.5 million.

"I actually heard the bombs themselves. I live right down the street. We had neighbors who were terrified," Pasadena City Councilmember Felicia Williams said. "They would wake up in the middle of the night. We didn't know if it was a fire or explosion."

65 The funny/not so funny thing about the Pasadena story is that Pasadena uses a "ShotSpotter" system in some parts of the city that uses sensors to triangulate the gunfire sound and pinpoint its location, sending real-time alerts to officers.

An alert is sent to law enforcement within a minute if a report is determined to be actual gunfire. The speed of triangulation allows for faster response times to potential crime scenes.

158 Stands to reason that demand for the real thing will go down if there is an alternative available. A risk free alternative at that, vs a go to prison for a long time if caught with the real thing option.

I think it would make enforcement more difficult for the real p3d0 pr0n if the AI generated filth was absent artifacts. For example, the Speaker of the House could simply say that the "evidence" found on his computer that the Deep State is threatening him with is AI and insist that the persecutors prove otherwise by identifying the real victim.

Gunsmoke The original radio series, ran from maybe 1952 thru 1957 something like that. Indians were portrayed as pretty much never doing what Indians did. One episode, a settler family was wiped out, but it was white guys settling a score or something and trying to pin it on the Indians. Dillon knew it weren’t the Indians, though, by telltale clues at the site.

The state wanted Pooky's therapist to assume liability for anything Pooky might do. That's what the piece of paper we couldn't get signed boiled down to. No therapist in this area had ever seen that document before, and the office's legal counsel advised against signing it. We didn't want them held liable either, so we dropped our foster care application. I'll just pull a few quotes from the Wikipedia page about one of the "comic books"/"graphic novels" in question.

Gender Queer: A Memoir is a 2019 graphic memoir written and illustrated by Maia Kobabe. It recounts Kobabe's journey from adolescence to adulthood and the author's exploration of gender identity and sexuality

Gender Queer includes a handful of sexually explicit illustrations which have been used to argue that the book is inappropriate for minors. The age recommendations for the book vary -- the School Library Journal in 2019, in one of several reviews, said it can be appropriate for students in grades 9 and up

In one commonly cited panel, a 14-year-old Kobabe fantasizes about a scene in which an older man touches the penis of a youth.

They have urged those who would challenge the book to read it in its entirety, rather than passing judgement based on a small number of images.

So, "obscenity" is known when it's seen, and this must be merely "erotica."

I've seen several school committees shut down parents reading these books as obscene and against the rules for public meetings...hell several leftists have then argued these parents should be arrested for public indecency. And...no they don't see the issue with the logic of their argument here...

Good enough for an elementary school library...too graphic for the middle aged bureaucrats on the school board.

I would argue that since actual socialism in practice is almost always an oligarchy (just with different oligarchs in charge) probably the purest form on paper would be Cambodia. Early Soviet period- which required the NEP period to actually finance the revolution (which is just sweet.)

It never actually IS the communal rule that they say they want. It is just top down micromanagement, not organic rule by everyone.

I have seen it argued that the Kibbutz model is actually the biggest scale, successful implementation of the principle (which is also kind of bitterly ironic) but I have not studied it myself enough to really say one way or another.

6000 foot descent in 5 minutes is not an extreme drop. That's 1200 feet per minute, or 20 feet per second. I'm guessing there was one Hell of an air pocket, and the aircraft dropped a lot faster than that for a very short period.

The “safety net” of welfare and housing and the rest of that, and plenty of drugs, desensitized a lot of people, a safety valve as it were. Hispanics are not wrong when they say Americans are fat and lazy.

290 The funny/not so funny thing about the Pasadena story is that Pasadena uses a "ShotSpotter" system in some parts of the city that uses sensors to triangulate the gunfire sound and pinpoint its location, sending real-time alerts to officers.
An alert is sent to law enforcement within a minute if a report is determined to be actual gunfire. The speed of triangulation allows for faster response times to potential crime scenes.

It claimed that the agencies were interfering with their ability to practice medicine by overstepping their authority and violating the Administrative Procedure Act.

The FDA said in an email to CNN on Wednesday that it “has chosen to resolve this lawsuit rather than continuing to litigate over statements that are between two and nearly four years old.”
...
“Today’s settlement with the FDA is a major win for the doctor-patient relationship,” Marik said in the statement. “It vindicates our position that the FDA overstepped its regulatory authority by trying to dictate appropriate medical care.”

Did you scale down the air molecules in that equation, too? No?

The n, the 1/32 '262 was still going just 24 mph.

Kinda like the .452" .45 ACP slug, flies along at a subsonic +/- 900 fps or such. Roughly 600 mph.

Scale that slug up to X-1 size, and it's what, Mach 5 hypersonic?

The geomagnetic "storm" ( I detest the term "space weather". It's not weather -- my cousin the retired meteorlogist went on a rant about this) was no Carrington Event by a long shot.

Carringtons are 1 in 500 year things. Big enough CME, aimed just the right way toward Erf, with the plasma's local B field aligned just right (opposite to Erf's magnetic field when it hits).

When you get a Carrington, you get spectacular aurora visible at the equator.

John Herschel, son of William Herschel (who first found Uranus, and also discovered infrared radiation) used the term "solar meteorology" to describe sunspots and solar activity, in the sense of actual activity on the sun. He thought of storms and "weather" on the sun.

But they never really explained what they were. Storms of ions? Gamma Ray bursts? Coronal Mass ejections? Could be anything.

Jim

There was a Professor at the University of South Carolina whose academic work was mainly about the Scots-Irish influence on Southern culture.

Webb was late to the game, but good at arguing an older cultural point.

I will redirect myself to finding and sending you a copy of some books.

Not easy, because not politically historically Correct.

It's what commies do. Erase History and make you not only listen to must but also espouse the bullshit (upon pain of cancellation/firing), like men can have periods and get pregnant, therefore need medical coverage for gynecological exams.

Fantasyland is Commieland.

400 Hey Horde, I have been lurking for hours. My daughter who lives in Pa. just got home a while ago. She is here to meet her new niece. She should have been here hours ago and I was getting worried, she is not the type of kid that you call and tell her that you are worried. Anyway, she is home safe and I am greatly relieved.

I will say this about Leo Sayer, my grandson loves the song "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing", that and some Chubby Checker ensure that we both get some exercise.
