More or less, he is too big to be really pantherish, he sort of stomps like a Bengal tiger. All black with a black spot on his palate, gold green eyes, and acts more like a dog than the other cats. He tends to come in periodically to check on me.
He is not really fat, just large.
I had another rescue, Angus, who was also probably a Bombay, very focused on me and not so excited about my wife. Magic is my wife's cat.

Not yet. I brought home a new-to-me 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup, bequeathed to me by a late friend (a total shock to me, BTW). So I got to cleaning it out. Discovered wooden wedges holding up the window in the driver's door. Took the door apart, and after quite a struggle, fixed the busted window regulator. It's really a very nice truck, a four-door cab with short box and cap, 4.7 V8, 4X4, and has A/C. No rust, no broken glass, one small dent in the box. I may just start using it.

If you expect to learn much overall about the USAAF bombing campaign against Germany, you won't. The Apple+ series focuses on the 100th Bomb Group and the 325th Fighter Group (Tuskeegee airmen). B-24s? Nah. P-47s? Nah. The 100th gained the nickname the Bloody Hundredth due to high losses in the fall of 1943, and had some colorful characters. Yeah, so did other 8th AAF bomb groups. If you want to learn about 8th AAF officer POW experiences, you'll learn a bit. I was underwhelmed. YMMV.

Not an easy read; only for serious history addicts. But you will know everything. Bombers, fighters, tactics, equipment, you-name-it.

Awww, Bombays are very sweet on their "person." Pookette has been trying for months to switch Hex's loyalty from me to herself, and it's sort of working. I think he knows what's coming in four months and is setting her up as a backup to the mess otherwise known as a baby boy.

a friend of mine's mom is Brazilian, and has two birthdays, because Brazil had this law that parents had to register their kids' births within a certain time after the birth or pay a large fine. Since her father only got into town a couple of times a year, she got two birthdays, the day she was born, and the date her dad put down on the form to avoid paying the additional penalty.

I am not familiar with the 4.7, but I see it is an iron block with aluminum heads, and single overhead cams. It started right up when I put a battery in it, and I was able o drive it onto my trailer without any trouble. Guess I should do an oil change. My reading indicates that this engine does not tolerate dirty oil, or thick oil.

What kind of car is it in? I never heard of a "strato-flight hydramatic". Cadillac and Oldsmobile had just "hydramatic", and it was the best automatic tranny in the industry back then.
A hard upshift to second sounds like the seals on the second gear servo are hard, and bypass a bit, so the shift gets delayed until enough oil can fill the servo faster than it bypasses.

I've never dealt with a vintage transmission, such as that.
If you don't mind the expense, give it TWO full drains and cleans, as well as a good cleaning of the screen mesh "filter", and try it again?
Put about 200 miles on it between those two fills, though.
Fresh fluid really can clean out a great many orifices and passages. See your Doctor if your UP shift lasts for more than four hours.

Scampydog, I just read the Wikipedia article on the history of the hydramatic, and I would recommend it to you. Apparently, a hard 1-2 upshift was somewhat characteristic. Jim's advice of a round of fluid changes makes sense, and also a band adjustment would be a good idea. Those older transmissions did require periodic band adjustments to stay in tiptop condition.

I was looking for speed. I think the best way to dry 'oibs is to put them on a sheet pan on parchment in the freezer at the same level as the fan, then bag them. It takes 24hrs or so but better results.

Like I'm 20 again. Seriously. Thats probably way dangerous for me, but it is what it is. I went through it all at lightning speed, it almost was if nothing happened. The first few weeks were a little rough, but by week 5 I was sailing. They cleared me to drive a week early because I healed ahead of schedule. No shortness of breath no matter what i do, and the strangest thing is I feel nothing. There is a weird calm. Like absolutely nothing, like my body isn't even running. I don't hear my self breath, I don't feel my heart. yeah, like I'm 20 again.

Well, back in october/november I tried to kick start A vintage harley, a 1955 panhead I did a new motor in. I was running a little short of breath, but nothing that seemed real bad, because I moved from one house to another and renovated 2 houses, so how frigging bad could I be. Anyway, I tried to start the bike, gave it 7 real hard rapid kicks and boom, I couldn't catch my breath for 2 minutes. Shortly after i started feeling a thump in my heart every so often, then i went to bed one night, got on my back and I couldn't catch my breath. I said ok, I'm in trouble. I started having tests done and eventually I had a cardiac catheterization done and that was it. 2 arteries were 100% blocked, the widowmaker was 95% blocked, and the 4th one was 80%. That was that, off to the hospital for a quad by-pass.

That's similar to a neighbor, in his late '70s. Had been doing fine, working hard and all that. The one afternoon, he walked out a short driveway to get his mail out of the box.
He was out of breath after that, couldn't recover, went to ER, and they found massive blockages.
My father, around 2003, was out doing a little shoveling, not much, just messing around with something. Chest pain -- it was a mild heart attack. Stents followed, several over several years.

Sincerely glad for you they caught the problem early.
I already had a heart attack and scar damage and have an ICD. But still I was feeling sluggish with my device history reading 'events'. So I had a cath procedure done. That night in the hospital, my upper chest burned where they did the inside work with the laser scalpel. But the next morning I left the hospital by walking down two flights of stairs and jogging to catch a bus; it was a Saturday around noon and who knew when the next one was coming? Then I transferred to the train to my stop and walked the 8 or so blocks home.
Later, when I told my Doc the story, he said 'That's what we like to hear'.
That cath was 8, 9 years ago and I still feel good, relatively speaking.
Again, congrats on the docs -- and you -- for catching it early.

Mine was amazing. I felt no pain during any of it, not even the day after surgery. I got off the oxygen 4 days after I got home. By the end of the second week the visiting nurse gave up on me, because in her words there was nothing more they could do. I was walking around the house like nothing happened, and in her words "this isn't normal". I was driving a week later, and pretty much resumed normal activity by week 4. The first few weeks it hurt to cough, but you have that pillow they give to press against your chest so that helped. Once that went away I was up and running. Cardiac rehab was actually an option for me. I didn't have to do it, but I figured what the hell, they monitor you, so its probably a good thing. I have 5 sessions left to go. Its amazing being on the machines for 45 minutes with a heart rate of 107-112 and no shortness of breath at all. I did have one of the best surgeons in the country, so even the scars are almost vanished.

My room was like a star ship. Private room, 60" TV, and a touch pad that controlled everything. Window shades, lighting, HVAC, and other shit I had no clue. It was a new place actually. I had beautiful blonde american nurses who were on top of their game, absolutely amazing highly trained cardiac nurses. The first nurse I had out of the OR was on me like white on rice, she almost never left my side. Ironically she had given birth to a 3 month premature baby who was in that hospital while she was taking care of me. She would visit her when she could. I told her go visit your baby, I'm good for now. She looked at me and said uh, no way dude, right now all that matters is you. I felt so bad, but man was I glad to have her. It was like if you could have the perfect worry free hospital stay, this was it. The surgeon checked up on me every day until i got released.

Woke up early after a dream where I was with three buddies, one of whom looked like Luke Perry in 90210, and we were going to have a pizza. But the pizza prices began at $15 for a small 1-person pie, and ran up past $40 for a large. Yours truly only had about $25 in his wallet and my friends were going, "I'm broke too" or "I'll get you next time." The manager was Canadian and was saying stuff like "We bleed black juice" (?). And Luke Perry had a piece of paper in front of him with French words on it. I guessed, "Does that mean 'Never in all my born days?'," and he nodded.
I woke to find the small kitten, Dagny, curled up against me on the bed -- as rare a happening as F. Joe sounding lucid.
It's gonna be a weird day.

I'd agree that modern Greek might be on the list. While I'm sure that Wolfe would *know* considerable Latin, I can't see him including it on his list of languages that he *speaks.* As James Bond said about the Latin and Ancient Greek he had in school, both were utterly useless when it came to ordering a coffee in Rome or Athens.

You kind of know what to do.
Montenegro is quite safe, for tourists and travelers but I've found in any mountains if you're like me and don't act like a tourist and start wandering around by yourself in places tourists don't go, by yourself, it triggers the innate suspicion. My host grew up there so locals were accepting but it was made rather clear I was expected to stick with my host and not go 'poking around'!
