Pelouse January.jpg

January: Cernay, near Rambouillet
Léon-Germain Pelouse

***

And now for something completely different! Below the fold is the new official portrait of Charles the Third, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of His other Realms and Territories, King, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.

Although judging by the palette, I would go with his nickname: Tampon Boy.

60 To hell with that stupid Charles portrait. If he is pleased with it his taste is worse than I thought.

However, the Léon-Germain Pelouse painting is superb. With a limited pallet he captured the feel of a dark winter day in the countryside. No urban lights or many storefronts that Paris would have. Pelouse did wonderful natural landscapes and group scenes. They make me think of Constable and even some of the van Ruisdael styles. By my preferences, that is a big plus.

94 Embiggen the January painting. The sunrise is lovely. The red blazes even though it still early. I like how the shape of the flock of birds resembles the shape of the clouds. They create a flow to the piece. The outline of the houses and buildings sweep up from right background to left middle ground. They join that back-to-front movement of form in the birds and clouds.

This work is quiet but alive, and that red gives it some heat. Not a lot those cuz it's winter, but enough to counter the frigid snow.

104 Jonathan Yeo (born 18 December 1970,[1] in London, England) is a British artist who rose to international prominence in his early 20s as a contemporary portraitist. . .

193 Maybe the butterfly recapitulates the life of Chaz himself. The long dormant period (SWIDT?) in the cocoon symbolizes the all-enveloping and nearly interminable reign of Queen Elizabeth, seemingly forever hiding the pupal stage of the mediocrity that is Charles, until finally he emerges into full glory as a beautiful manifestation of his true potential, only to alight briefly on the throne before flitting out a window and living out his brief royal tenure. Eventually coming to a tragic end on the grill of Dodi Fayed's Mercedes on the M4.

You know...actually looking seriously at this portrait for a moment,

I think people are reading it wrong.

Charles isn't emerging in this portrait.

All of his accutrements of kingship, his uniform, is dissolving into a sea of red, ie. the bloody history of England(?).

And all that's left is Charles himself. His face and hands, as ephemeral as a butterfly.

This portrait actually looks to be a very heavy slagging of Charles, his life, and his kingship.

I have watched his videos, so his video about what happened was only a few hours old when I watched it. He was clear that it was not BOTH colleges that employed him; his part-time gig is fine.

The thing that really got him was that they didn't allow him to move in book-in-progress from his work computer to a flashdrive.

That was terribly naive of him to consider his work-supplied computer "safe". No matter where I've worked, I've had a copy of the work I personally created. I learned my lesson even about official files when my current employer's stupid technology "guru" decided to save server space by deleting all old files, including three years of my materials.

NB: this is the most he could do. Any more and he starts getting heat from his base.
But, it gets better: this won't slow the surge, the issue will get worse, and he'll be forced to take an act that not only angers his base but makes the issue worse

Similar to the stupid Obama/vine painting, but much better in comparison. Maybe because the vines and chair draw attention away from the face, while this one focuses on the face? It's kind of fun to pick out the details of the uniform in this one, where the vine painting is just boring and repetitive?

The gif part of that is unnecessary, since you can already use the image search function in Duck Duck Go or any other search engine (unless you're searching specifically for any animated image in the .gif format).

Without any search term to specifically indicate the ridiculous painting of Obama embedded in bushes, it isn't surprising that your search didn't work well. Simply adding bushes or shrubbery to the search does produce many images showing the portrait you want (it also works with painting instead of portrait, though less well).

Every Deep Stater has reason to lie because they fear punishment. The Guilty fleeth when no man pursueth.

BTW, Pence is requesting the Fed Gov (Us) pickup up his millions of dollars in campaign debt via the presidential campaign funds. This is after his ill fated campaign crashed and burned so he is seeking retroactive payments from the Fedgov when he purposefully chose not to participate in the first place and be subject to its spending and funds restriction.

IIRC, Obama's Official Portrait - Kehinde Wiley’s painting - was absolutely bizarre with greenery but "full of historical art references says Kim Sajet, the director of the National Portrait Gallery.." Feb. 20, 2018

Maybe, but bizarre, causing quite a stir.

Some press on the ridiculous portrait of King Charles: >Express, May 14, 2024: 'King Charles's nine-word response to his new portrait unveiled at Buckingham Palace.' King Charles showed his final reaction to the portrait today, after four sit-down sessions with artist Jonathan Yeo.

"King Charles finally unveiled a portrait of himself which was started when he was a prince, and finished when he became King. The monarch gave a surprising nine-word response when he saw the official finished portrait.
...

In the new portrait, the King is depicted, sword in hand, with a beautiful butterfly landing on his right shoulder. After the unveiling of the painting, King Charles uttered a nine-word response: "It is remarkable actually how it has turned out."
--
My thought: "Destined to crash and burn, as will that monarchy."
