Today it's Ayanda Risu and Aragami Oga's song Harapan PanPanPan, which is a Japanese / Bahasa pun. Disclaimer: Risu is a squirrel, and her parents are Okayu and Korone, who are a cat and a dog respectively. That's just how the Hololive family tree works. Bijou and Kobo are each other's mothers. I think we are using too many solar panels on Earth. They are sucking too much energy from the sun and destabilizing the corona, making it eject mass towards the planet.

HPI index for the North polar auroral region is 277GW. That solar fart is dumping 277 GW of power into the earth's upper atmosphere. It's 282GW for the south pole. A normal value is about 10GW. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at May 11, 2024 04:51 AM (w6EFb) 22

Posted by: Cat Ass Trophy at May 11, 2024 04:50 AM (P9xGM) Actual serious question... if you take heat energy from the country, and send it to the cities, where the use the electricity which produces waste heat... does that not add to the Heat Island Effect? Are you not changing the environment by moving WHERE heat will have an effect? Posted by: Romeo13 at May 11, 2024 05:05 AM (xaFKb) 24

358GW was the peak last night. That seems impressive. US grid demand varies, currently over the course of the day from about 350 - 550 GW for the lower 48. So, the solar fart was dumping about 1 US grid worth of power into the upper atmosphere and ionosphere and all that. But, total power received by ol' Sol is about 10^17W. That's 100,000 Terrawatts, a 100 Petawatts, or a tenth of an exawatt. So, the US grid and this aurora is but a fart in a hurricane by comparison. Good morning, everyone.
FenSpouse and I are trying to sort things out for son's big move. What turned up was a Gideon's Bible which I had rescued years ago because someone had tossed it out of a motel room in PA and it landed in the parking lot. As people know who have looked up a Gideon's Bible, it has suggestions for "help in times of need" in the front of the Bible. Here is one for "comfort in time of loneliness": " Fear thou not; for I am with thee; be not dismayed: for I am thy God:,I will strengthen thee; yea I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee by my right hand of righteousness. ." It is the same amount of energy from the Sun, just distributed differently. Heat islands are slow to change temperature. Highs over time will peak at the same temperature and lows will rise from the retained heat. The overall heat will remain constant.

I've realigned my morning plan. Breakfast first, then a shave & cleanup. I'll wash the car on my way to the barbershop! Brilliant!
Normally at this time of year I wouldn't do that; it would be too hot and humid, and I'd be a walking swamp under my clothes all morning. The (relatively) pleasant temps and moisture this morning make it possible. 52 USC 20511(2) makes it a felony to fraudulently register or vote.
18 USC 911 makes it a felony to make any claim of false citizenship, period. 18 USC 1015(f) makes it a felony to make any false claim related to citizenship. Each of these is fines and 5 years. By the way, 52 is written in a way that actually makes it a crime to submit the registration. So most of these NGO people should be looking at jail time too. Over 29 years ago, I used to buy cars for $500-$1000, fix them up and drive them for a while, and then sell them. Nowadays the sweet spot is $3000 to $5000. There is not much of a market for a 67 MGB race car with a roll cage though. A car like that I would have to keep.
It might be good for the burning times though, with a wood gas generator on hanging the back and a Maxim mounted on the hood. Posted by: fd at May 11, 2024 08:04 AM (vFG9F) 151

I got lucky last night with the aurora.
Me too. The electronic diagnostics program had read out "Low Oil Pressure," and putting a new oil pump into a baby North Star is practically easier if you pull the engine. It wasn't the sending unit (you find that out by putting in a new sending unit). After extensive road-going research involving taping an S-W analog gauge to the outside mirror, restomod mechanic traced it to the ultra-modern chip circuit, so I now have a sleek round oil pressure gauge (with braided high-pressure sensor hose) where the ashtray/gumholder used to be. We managed to save the "cigarette lighter" phone charger jacks. That engine will deliver 120 pounds of oil pressure at speed. I have a mental image of a lot of cars from that era ending up with a whole row of hotrod gauges and toggle switches across the dash, probably in three-ply lauan plywood.
