  • Building a Threadripper workstation and need lots of fast memory but also want ECC? V-Color has you covered. (Serve the Home)

    192GB at DDR5-7200 speeds.

Though you only get full speed if you have one DIMM per channel, so if you need more (and your motherboard has more than four slots) it will slow down.

  • If you need even faster memory - like HBM - you can place your orders now for delivery in 2026. (AnandTech)

Hynix's production is already sold out for 2024 and most of 2025.

  • Google's search results, already almost useless, are getting worse. (The Register)
"It has happened," wrote developer Arian van Putten in a social media post over the weekend. "The number one Google result was an official Pulumi documentation page that was clearly written by an LLM (it had a disclaimer that it was) and hallucinated an AWS feature that didn't exist. This is the beginning of the end."
Pulumi, the company generating the AI results, has been very responsive to the problem, has taken down two thirds of the pages and is reviewing the remainder for incorrect answers.

Google meanwhile offered the cannedest of canned replies.

Bing, meanwhile... Didn't have the same problem. So score one for Microsoft.

  • Generating 1024 bit prime numbers the hard way. (GlitchComet)

The easy way is to just copy and paste. Here you go:

  • If you play Helldivers 2 and live in Monaco or San Marino or Andorra or any of about seventy one hundred and twenty other countries, publisher Sony says fuck you. (GamesRadar)

You will now be required to sign up to the PlayStation Network to play the game on Windows. The PlayStation Network is only available in about half one third of the countries of the world.

7 I like this comment over at Pixy's ai.mee.nu site on the recent TechDirt article about nurses and AI, nicely adulterating a line from the article:

"No computer, no AI can replace a human touch," said Amy Grewal, a registered nurse. "It cannot hold your loved one's hand. You cannot teach a computer how to have empathy or make obnoxious tik-tok videos instead of treating patients."

It's so easy to get caught up in the commotion of hatred going on in colleges right now.

I find myself wishing death upon the pale-swine "protestors" simply because they wish the same upon me and mine.

What is the solution here? It's so hard to pray for my enemies, other than to pray for their demise!

What now?

69 Hardcore:

When the troops were about to capture the tower and were forcing the door of the courtyard, they ordered that fire be brought and the doors burned. Being surrounded, Razis fell upon his own sword, [42] preferring to die nobly rather than to fall into the hands of sinners and suffer outrages unworthy of his noble birth. [43] But in the heat of the struggle he did not hit exactly, and the crowd was now rushing in through the doors. He bravely ran up on the wall, and manfully threw himself down into the crowd. [44] But as they quickly drew back, a space opened and he fell in the middle of the empty space. [45] Still alive and aflame with anger, he rose, and though his blood gushed forth and his wounds were severe he ran through the crowd; and standing upon a steep rock, [46] with his blood now completely drained from him, he tore out his entrails, took them with both hands and hurled them at the crowd, calling upon the Lord of life and spirit to give them back to him again. This was the manner of his death.

I read the essay, but I think the author misses the point of why Marxism/Maoism/Communism resonates with some people. The author doesn't seem to grasp that there is a spiritual component to Communism.

In of over 150 years of failure, and 100+ millions people murdered, why do some people still find Marxism attractive? The proponents of Marxism are in pursuit of a materialist Utopia, but it goes way beyond economics. That's why utilitarian arguments (are you hearing this GOPe drones?) don't dissuade Marxists.

Marxism requires the commission of the Sins of Pride, Theft, Anger and Envy -- all while masquerading as compassion for the poor. That's why I'm now of the belief that Marxism was inspired by Satan.

Jesus Christ is the Truth, the Way, and the Life. If He were just some crackpot Jewish carpenter that lived 2000 years ago, why do the Marxists expend so much energy in persecuting or corrupting Christian churches?

133 We make a fundamental mistake in not calling the Left what it is and exposing the true horror of its plans for all of us. And when we fail to do that, then we’re surprised at what comes next.

Why do we call it the Neo-Nazi Left? Because its goal is to impose a socialist state through the mass murder of millions of people, particularly but not exclusively Jews. Much as in Nazi Germany, those people include political dissenters and anyone else they see as standing in their way. What Stalin and Hitler failed to accomplish, they hope to achieve through many of the same methods.

What is happening at Columbia University, Yale and many other schools is not an aberration, like the Weathermen plans to kill 25 million Americans, it’s the truest expression of an ugly extremist movement that has learned nothing from its worst crimes in the twentieth century.

And we ignore their tactics and threats at our peril.

There is no place for hate speech and violence of any kind in America – whether it’s antisemitism, Islamophobia, discrimination against Arab Americans and Palestinian Americans.

How soon can we expect to hear Biden or some other Democrat tell us, yet again, that Christian Nationalists are the "biggest threat to Our Democracy(tm)"?

But please, sheeple, stop it with your religious prejudice!! We don't tolerate hate around here (wink, wink).

In their filing, prosecutors acknowledged the government had previously — and incorrectly — told U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon that the boxes remained “in their original, intact form as seized.

I smiled. Reminded me of this one:

And the disappointed little girl said, "Mommy, what did you bring that book I didn't want to be read to out of up for?"

236 In KJP's life, no authority figure has ever told her that her performance is substandard.
Sadly, that's most of Washington. Both parties.

Like all parasites, she goes from job to job never really working or producing anything of value while being highly compensated. She thinks she is that and a bag of chips.

She should be back in Haiti helping whatever warlord's harem she would be in light the coals on his brazier between the midnight rape, not "working" in the white out house.

More coffee...

237 It's worse than that. I guarantee - and would bet big deed-to-my-house money - that she knows without a bit of doubt
that she's the smartest person in any room.

I don't get that sense. I think she probably knows she has some limitations but she's worked so hard to "earn" all the success she has achieved, lol.

239 KJP has had some doozies, but the one where Charlottesville was responsible for the jew hate and terrorist violence of the student protests has been my favorite.

She'd go catatonic if anybody told her the real truth.

Who am I kidding, she'd shrug it off with "What does that white racist know?"

Ocean's dying, plankton's dying... it's people. Soylent Green is made out of people. They're making our food out of people. Next thing they'll be breeding us like cattle for food. You've gotta tell them. You've gotta tell them!

I got the horse right here,
The name is Paul Revere.
And here's a guy that says that if the weather's clear,
Can do, can do, this guy says the horse can do.
If he says the horse can do, can do, can do.

255 Every company I work for has manditory email purging. I guess I thought the company still keeps them archived for legal purposes but no one wants it to be easy for just anyone to access a history of correspondence. Which makes the technology about 90% less useful or I'll say no more useful than some guy down the hall shouting at you.

256 Apparently Helldivers 2 got review bombed into oblivion over the PSN linking requirement, and started getting waves of refund requests.

It sounds like this was a direction from Sony, and it also sounds like Arrowhead did not originally realize the game was being sold in areas that can't use PSN accounts. The CEO says they're trying to work something out so people who bought it don't lose access.

Overall I'm going to wait and see what happens.

Oh and Sony is working on rolling out automated AI powered moderation and anti-griefing across all PSN games which I'm sure won't cause any problems ever at all...
