81 So... my granddaughter was in NC for a BMX event. She's been competing nationally, mostly out west in CA and NV and qualified to go to NC for a more "international" event, the UCI BMX Racing World Championships.

I've no idea how many riders were there... hundreds I think, from all age and experience groups. Mostly North America, Central and South America.

She placed 33rd overall. Top 5 in her age/experience group.

I started CJN on a shoestring, do all of the maintenance, and it is far more robust than AoSHQ.

The basic issue is that Pixy has modified a 2002 blog without updating it...at all. So literally nothing works as it should, and there have been no improvements.

We actually post manually. No scheduling! We can't embed music, and the only reason we can embed videos is because of Maetenloch!

Some of the cobloggers are just sick and f*cking tired of it. We have to do far more work than is necessary because of Pixy's shit.

Just finished 'Father's Day' episode of 'Doctor Who' with Eccleston and Billie Piper. Piper was cute, even though she was a tiny bit thick. I REALLY liked those two together.

Attended a celebration party for a BIL about 15 years ago. Normally I would not have gotten a seat at his table but we brought Mom so we got to sit at the main table. Good question. The whole issue of his preexisting medical problems and lethal level of drugs in his system was pretty much ignored in the media. As was the fact that the medical examiner initially determined that his death was not a homicide and was not caused by the cops, before he was pressured into changing his report.

While I could probably write a replacement, as could others here, the hosting also needs to be handled. It's the coordination of the old and new software and content, and of any hosting changes, where it gets tricky. I wouldn't want to see Ace offline for any length of time - some people would go into withdrawal.

351 306 292 I agree. While I know nothing about behind the scenes or security issues, I'm fine with the way things look now. There is something to be said for not being able to edit, and threaded conversations as annoying AF. Emojis are not an enhancement, IMHO.

Even the Barrel has its special charm. Been there, had the t-shirt (but it rotted quickly).

I added a new overlay written in assembly code to a data program (named Super Spectrum by its original coder) that collected date from a Cary UV-visible spectrophotometer equipped to measure circular dichroism of samples in solution. The program ran on a PDP-8e and originally dumped each spectrum out to punched paper tape. When the Lawrence Berkeley Lab computing center, where we processed the papers tapes to render our spectra useable, announced that they were retiring their paper tape reader, that's when I added the capability for it to send the spectra direct to LBL via phone lines. Wowee-zowee!

Anyway, my point to be made is that I preserved the entire PDP-8e program in printout form on microfiche and put the fiche films at the back of my published thesis. Now, could I understand those programs today? Oh, hell no! What's even better is that today, with the nearly complete disappearance of microfiche readers in repositories of knowledge, I'd be hard pressed to even find a device to view them.

Oddly, this is the only time I have ever in my life used Euros. I've had hosts in Serbia request payment in Euros, cash, but I've never before used them as main currency. Serbian dinar; Turkish lira; Swiss franc; Mexican peso; Japanese yen; US dollar; but no, no Euros.
Years ago, British pound; Hungarian forint; German deutschmark. No Euro then.

I'm discovering the limitations of the "tipping bucket", actually tipping spoon in this WS-2000 weather station's case. Daily rainfall period is midnight to midnight (which can be changed). We had a little bit of rain before midnight, but it wasn't enough to trip the bucket.

The bucket tripped just a few minutes, and tripped again soon after, a little more rain started.

So a proper record should record yesterday as "trace" amount of precipitation, then zero out at midnight. That's the limitation of these types of rain collectors.
