Also at the office we have two beer tappers, and people donate liquor to a shared bar.
I donated a rather nice bottle of bourbon because while it's excellent, it is that oak-barrel type stuff and I learned the hard way that if you have a few shots during the day, when you go to work at midnight people can still smell it on your breath 20 feet away, 6-7 hours later. It's strong-smelling stuff so to the 'donate' rack it went. Posted by: LenNeal at April 25, 2024 05:26 AM (43xH1) 35

My Samsung phone is coming up on its Five year End-of-Life. Meaning, no more security up dates, but it works just fine. Do I really have to trash it? Posted by: JM
I will play. No you don't have to trash it but you need to consider your security risk footprint. If the bulk of your use is limited to checking email a few times a week and watching cat videos on YouTube, you probably don't have much to worry about. On the other hand, if you are on your phone everyday and do everything on your phone such as managing your finances, booking medical appointments, or have credit cards stored on it, well that's a whole different story. Another thought is 5 years is a pretty good run with a cell phone and it just might be time for a new device. The good news is mid-tier priced cell phones, say around $500, are pretty solid options so there is a path to getting a new device and not having to spend $1,000. Last night I had my usual Wednesday night get together with our Constitution Bee survivors.
5 years ago, when my wife fell out of a chair and had spinal issues, she was in hospital until released. I then cared for her at home. Until she got so bad she was put back in hospital. She was close to death when she went back in. The wife of our local political leader told me then she had someone in mind for me, if things got worse. Always been a Plan A and plan B person. Last night, I asked my friend how that women was getting along. "Oh, she died." To much laughter from the table. Posted by: NaCly Dog at April 25, 2024 06:58 AM (u82oZ) 121

I'll also weigh in: I have found that when phones legit go obsolete, all those high-security apps will simply stop working due to your phone not being updateable. I recently had to get a new phone as my work schedule app, which I have to have to, you know, work, stopped working entirely. What will happen is your phone tries to update, can't, then bricks apps with security updates. I have an ancient Samsung I use for 'a phone' as the call quality is terrific, and it does YouTube and such on a web browser but none of the apps work anymore. I have looked into the discussed sanctions against a specific military unit and admit bafflement. I can see sanctions against a paramilitary, semi-independent entity, like some of the 'volunteer units' in the Bosnian War, which would identify individuals within those outfits that were mostly bandit gangs barely under State control if at all.
But this thing of sanctioning a single unit of a cohesive, national army just confuses me no end. Does it sanction individuals within the unit? Everyone who has ever cycled through it? When and where do the sanctions apply, at what point in time? It makes absolutely NO sense from any standpoint. None. I'll have to do some more digging, it is simply bizarre.
