Pandas live lives so similar to my own.

Dog says "you go on walking, I'll just hang out here for a while."

This dog, on the other hand, is very appreciative of its master.

i halp

i halp, part 2

Giving a monkey a ride.

Some trick video photography.

Crow gives a wolf the cutest little goose.

Lambada, The Forbidden Dance.

Dog has happypaws.

Sheep is trying to pass as a dog. Pretty good effort.

You can buy the cat all the toys in the world, he'll still prefer non-toys.

This dog has a favorite toy. And it's an actual toy.

This video is labeled "World's Worst Sheepdog," but I prefer to think of him as just herding sheep by alternative means.

Dog hears a bad progress report.

Border collie does parkour.

I really liked the first season of the reboot, then quickly realized the series was not going to continue the spare resources and a population on the edge, but rather deal with teen angst, The abortion episode was the point I said a fuck you and farewell.

Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at April 23, 2024 08:12 PM (8sMut)

These days what happens is a show can escape notice by the suits and wokists for a season, maybe two but if it lives that long then the execs descend on it and start remaking it into the cult's vision and you can give up on it.

It used to happen in reverse. The old Family Ties show at first wanted to be about the parents more than the non-liberal kids but when the materialistic Mallory and Capitalist Michael got popular they de-emphasized the liberal parents and went for it.

First season sucks. You need to watch:

The Pilot
PK Tech Girl
A Human Reaction
Last three episodes

Second season, start watching about Look at the Princess and then it just keeps getting better from there.

It is a truly great show, with good characterizations, but only watch the first season eps aside from the ones I mentioned after you love the show.

The director might have taken longer to lose it, he spun out Buffy for a while. But the last one in the sequence has some bounty hunter threatening to rape the nice girl and the movie apparently had the other young girl go all super-magical power girl so it might not have had as much time as all that for the show to be about adults and reasonable situations.

120 Ron Moore's BSG.

First mistake, deleting how alien the Cylons are and thus depriving him of an actual 'other' voice to examine the Human Condition.

Third mistake? Well let's see. The entire stupid 'insurrection' plot with Cain.

Fourth? Oh yeah the ending. When the remaining true Human Colonials decide to go native, give up their technology, and hope the Cylons they befriended don't revert. Plus the whole pigeon instead of dove metaphor.

SF requires you to know enough science and tech to fake the world. Fantasy just needs people in mud and brown clothes.

Both need discipline to keep from going off the rails in a long series which is increasingly impossible to find. Apparently Rings-O-Power failed that before the first episode.

147 Egypt also being in play, fun fact: Menes, the first to unite Upper and Lower Egypt, and hence the first true Pharaoh, was killed by a Hippo.

Also, my roommate in college was from Zambia, and while showing me photos of his home and environs, one thing that popped up a few times were Hippo Crossing warning signs. I laughed, but he was deadly serious and said that they were among the deadliest creatures in Africa and frightened him more than lions and mambas and the other usual suspects. It was largely because of how unpredictable and stubborn they were - he talked about how one had rammed a mini-van off the road with nary a scratch to the Hippo.

Nothing wrong with that, a lot of good SF borrows the setting from something we know and explores the world from there. The Original series was pretty much a WWII ship doing exploration like they did in the 1500s to 1700s where you docked your boat off a newly discovered area and played the rest by ear.

My dearly missed Molly Dog would pull the laydown stunt if she didn't want to head home from a walk in the woods around the house or if we were at the dog park and I told her it was time to go home. A 115lb field trial strong Labrador with a field trial attitude makes for an impossible situation. She could be so adamant about what she wanted to do. Sometimes I gave up trying to negotiate with her and would tell, "alright you win, let's keep walking," where she would immediately pop up as happy as a dog could be. I really miss her.

260 Can't believe no one's mentioned the real mastermind - the Grand Duchy of Fenwick.
Posted by: vmom stabby stabby stabby stabby stabamillion

The Grand Duchy of Fenwick was brilliant - start a war with the U.S., lose it, then rake in those sweet millions from their own mini-Marshall Plan. I loved the sequel too, where they launched their own space program. (The novels the films were based on have a third and fourth installment, The Mouse on Wall Street and The Mouse That Saved the West. The author, Leonard Wibberley, got the idea for the first novel when he saw the generous aid package the US supplied to Japan in the Treaty of San Francisco and wrote a satirical piece suggesting his home country, Ireland, declare war on America in hopes of getting the same deal, and realized he could turn that into a novel.)

264 42 People fondly remember MASH but I suspect it was a lot more liberal than my kid brain remembers.

I would bet it has been disappeared as one of the main running gags was Klinger, who they were very clear about showing that he wasn't gay or tranny, dressed as a woman in an attempt to get out of the Army for being crazy.

271 That's not the hard part. Warring against those countries, targeting is the hard part.

If your artillery is a few feet off in any direction, you wind up at war with Austria or Italy or somebody. And if you were expecting to take over Liechtenstein or San Marino, you probably only brought five or six shells.
Posted by: mikeski

That's part of the worrisome issue, but Liechtenstein didn't get where it did by being passive - proactive is their unofficial motto (the official one is "For God, Prince, and the Fatherland," but that's just for the tourists).

The most recent people Liechtenstein felt posed a threat or just pissed them off were Amelia Earhart, Judge Crater, Jimmy Hoffa, and Michael Dukakis. (who do you think persuaded him to get in that tank for the photo op?)

273 Read something the other day about how top Wehrmacht generals were paid under the table in large amounts by the Nazis to ensure loyalty. So even the smart ones who saw Hitler's ideas were going to go bad were hesitant to say anything cause they would lose their payoffs. I am pretty convinced that Von Braun wasn't the real focus of bringing Nazis over here after the war. It really feels like the spooky community wanted to be educated on how to BE Nazis and as time passes they are more and more open about it as the population knows less and less about Nazis. Also covered by decades of calling the right wing Nazis even though the real Nazis were socialists. Maybe that's where the irrational hatred of Russians and Jews comes from.

Yet me, a socialist, had to run for my life, and they hunted down and killed Socialists. I don’t get this attitude, but then, Americans love taking things at face value and don’t like to study history.
