Top Story

  • The SEC is planning to sue crypto exchange Uniswap because. (CoinDesk)

Because, basically, the SEC can't decide what to do about cryptocurrencies so it is planning to sue every company that doesn't steal all its customers' money and disappear.

The SEC took no action against FTX until after the meltdown, so now they're making up for lost time by taking action against, basically, everyone.

Tech News

  • Kobo has announced two new colour e-readers: The 7" $220 Colour Libra and the 6" $150 Colour Clara. (The Verge)

These offer a resolution of 300 dpi in black and white and 150 dpi in colour - fairly washed-out colour. But they're e-ink screens, so they'll last a month or more on a single charge.

The more expensive model also supports the Kobo Stylus, and the combination of colour, long battery life, and note-taking make it an interesting option.

  • CrystalRuby lets you embed Crystal in Ruby. (GitHub)

    Those are programming languages.

    This is kind of neat.

  • A record number of books are targeted for bans in the US. (Sherwood)

The number has increased from one in 2023 to, well, still one.

I'll try to find the title, but as far as I know there only one edition of one book banned in the US, and that was because it contained classified information. It somehow made it to print before anyone caught on, and was pulled from the shelves and pulped.

It's hard to find the title because every article you see talking about banned books is lying.

  • Microsoft is the QNAP of Elasticsearches. (Tech Crunch)
The researchers notified Microsoft of the security lapse on February 6, and Microsoft secured the spilling files on March 5.
    Good work, lads.

How an alarmist article ought to have started:

Humanity has only two years left “to save the world” by making dramatic changes in the way it spews heat-trapping emissions and it has even less time to act to get the finances behind such a massive shift, the head of the United Nations climate agency sobbed said. "I mean, this is MY rice bowl you're threatening if you don't fork over the dough!" he screeched. "I can't cut it trying to be someone useful! I need your sweet, sweet cash in order to continue my parasitic lifestyle! I mean, New York's strippers and whores are like my dependent children and you, you, you ... BRUTES! are threatening their unique ways of life, just like all other authentic and indigenous peoples are threatened by imminent climate chaos! I, I, ..." (Here the event collapsed completely as the amorphous slug could go on no further and simply laid there and sobbed deep racking sobs ...)

One of mom's favorites.
Be right at 30 years ago she showed up at a gig. Only one. She couldn't stand the smoke and stayed way across the room by the front door. I knew she wouldn't stay for long.
I mentioned it to front man and asked if I could sing that one for her. He looked at our bass/keyboard player, told him what key and broke into it.
When we finished, she smiled, waved, and headed back out.

Friends, we visited Fetterman's Lair yesterday, also known as Braddock, PA. We will do so several more times prior to returning to Delaware on Sunday. Our daughter and her boyfriend have purchased a dwelling with lots and lots of "potential". They will soon begin to wrest all that potential from beneath the layers of debris that now cover the place.

I dunno, they may just do itt. They have numerous friends with the skills necessary to execute the job, including daughter herself, who has worked in home renovation for significant stretches of time over the past four years. There is a purpose behind this in her that has not been evident in the past two decades. We shall see ...

Good Luck! Braddock, like most towns in West PA, has seen better days. Braddock does have one slight advantage in that Pittsburgh is literally down the street. Not the safest walk but walkable. I kind of miss Western PA now. I grew up there, couldn't wait to leave, and now I wouldn't mind going back, in spite of its problems. Wouldn't want to live that close to Pittsburgh though. Or Allegheny County.

I find immense value in many many Scriptures from the Jewish scripture Jesus was a Jew and I am a Christian but I think there's a more appealing way to present the gospel than shouting at people about accept Jesus or be dammed, and no I don't want to argue about it

74 Oh dang.

I just realized part of the whole "book banning" push.

Search engines don't work any more, and normal people recognize it / know it. Normal people have begun adding the word "reddit" to the end of their searches in a desperate attempt to find actual information on topics they used to be able to search for. You can see this in the autofill when you search on Google.

The book ban psy-op is to work using this knowledge, to try to make people think there is something they can do against the gatekeepers.

No, it's as horrible an idea as embedding C code in Ruby, which is already done by all major database driver gems.

If you're going to embed Crystal code in Ruby, you may as well write the whole damn thing in Crystal. You've already required a compiler and every system in the build/deploy chain to be identical; you may as well get the improved performance, type-safety and real-time IDE linting.
