70 Gee! It is a Dutch master mistress! Good job, Judith.

The first hit for painting title and artist's name:
https://tinyurl.com/ycy9hmzb

This painting, which is also known as The Jolly Companions, depicts a couple as they drink and play music together. The man, wearing a wide black hat and large white ruff, leans back into his chair, his legs casually crossed, whilst in his hands he holds a violin aloft, as if about to play. His companion, nestled just behind him, holds an open beer jug and a glass of beer almost to her lips.

Like the Jolly Toper, Leyster depicts a moment of fun, and fills the picture with a lively energy. The facial expression on the young woman is particularly interesting: her cheeks flushed, she sends her half-smile towards her companion, looking at him fondly, or perhaps rather lasciviously. This could lead us to speculate on their relationship: are they a couple? Are they husband or wife? Or is another kind of transaction going on? Leyster leaves this unclear; she does however seem to suggest that this woman is sure of herself, and is not shy to show her own desire.

75 #70 cont.

The man's direct look towards the viewer is open and relaxed, suggesting he hopes that the crowd enjoys his music as much as he does. Leyster often depicted musicians, either individually or in groups, creating her own interpretations on the theme of "the merry company" which often showed people of mixed genders drinking and having fun.

This painting was attributed to Frans Hals for hundreds of years due to a deliberate forgery. Leyster's signature was discovered in 1893.

108 Although I like many of the paintings by this artist and she is in line with the other Dutch Golden Age painters (that's a good thing), this one lacks the interesting depths and colors that make many of her works so effective. It has the feel of a book illustration done with wonderful talent. The lightness and family atmosphere makes me think of the Scandi artists from the late 19th century. But it is a pleasant image even if it lacks the drama of other paintings.

I wonder if they are merry due to a prototype of Bols Gin.

There simply is no comparison between the two, they say.

Myocarditis sounds scary, but there are mild versions of it. In almost all cases among vaccinated young people (they were ages 16 to 24), the symptoms have gone away quickly. Covid-19, on the other hand, can be a long illness, or it can kill a young person – it has already killed thousands of them.

165 Why do I suspect if I actually read the study it would argue the clot shot doesn't cause heart attacks. The myocardias does. Which the clot shot causes.
===
At initial reading of the Oregon study cited by the CDC, it suffers from three key shortcomings, common in retrospective studies of myocarditis.

1. Small cohort (1,292) patients. Due to varying clinical definitions and variability in the rigor with which clinicians diagnose myocarditis, the true background prevalence in the general population is not truly known. Estimates vary widely.
2. Retrospective patient selection based on death certificates, which are generally based on clinical diagnoses. Even if cause of death is determined at autopsy, myocarditis can be missed due to patchy distribution of the inflammation within the myocardium.
3. Lack of a consistent definition of the condition. Many cases of myocarditis are subclinical, meaning no obvious outward symptoms. Evidence of myocarditis can be found (or missed) by ECG, echo, MRI and biopsy, but the Oregon study doesn't mention which if any of these were done. You can't draw conclusions without a consistent case definition.

171 The sewing & tric-trak painter is back!

NYT, July 2009, ART REVIEW | 'JUDITH LEYSTER, 1609-1660' A Career Woman’s Short but Sweet Career in the 17th Century.

WASHINGTON, Think of “Judith Leyster, 1609-1660” at the National Gallery of Art as a 400-year-old answer to the art historian Linda Nochlin’s famous question “Why have there been no great women artists?”

The Dutch were devilish, at least way back, and they liked the music.

"Leyster highlighted the libidinous, mood-enhancing properties of music, often paired with drink, in her tavern scenes. In “Merry Company” young men (including the fiddler in Leyster’s self-portrait) get good and tipsy. In a companion piece, “The Last Drop,” the hour is later, the light dimmer and the behavior sloppier. The men drain the bottle as a skeleton, holding an hourglass, watches."

She was excellent though limited, maybe by choice, maybe by the times.

Fun painting but wouldn't hang it. Thanks, CBD.

NBC News says the Border Patrol was told to release into the US a man on the "terror watchlist". He had been arrested illegally crossing the border.

To them, it doesn't seem to matter. They have gotten so litigious that serious sanctions need to be imposed on some of the loon AGs. The GOP doesn't know how to govern but they are experts at gumming up the works and wasting taxpayer money to do so.

It aggravates me nobody has asked schools to stop ridiculous tuition prices. It’s time for tuition control like they do with rents. The free ride the universities get should be over. 65 thousand a year is insane. Using some of that endowment money should be required too.

Law is no longer a thing the Supremes really care about. SCOTUS is more interested in: religious dogma being forced onto an unwilling population; supporting the filthy-rich oligarchs and their little monster the Stinking Nazi; abusing minorities and the poor; getting bribes from the filthy-rich and then ruling in favor of those filthy-rich then they are interested .

244 Off topic but feel-good story of the day for me.

I drove up north yesterday morning to get a little cosmetic fix to one of my car's wheels. It was a 44 mile drive half interstate half city boulevards.

Made a bathroom stop after exiting I-75 in Fort Myers, a Circle K convenience store, the place all busy with work crews gassing up and buying energy drinks and donuts.

Locked myself in the mens, dropped my shorts for a sit down, checked my phone to see my route and time going forward, washed up and left. Left with my wallet on the floor which I discovered 90 minutes later.

Certain it was lost in the wind, I spent hours after getting home canceling cards, getting a replacement DL, calling for ID cards for insurance, etc.

My cell rang at 6:30 pm, Miami number, unknown to me, I answer and its a guy babbling Spanish. I'm upset, demand he speak English, say he has wrong number, hang up.

I get a text, it's in Spanish, I recognize the word for wallet, and then he and I have a wonderful text exchange using translation. He showed me pics of the entire contents, the cash, the uncashed check I was carrying, everything. I told him he's an angel. Keep the cash, I said, and mail me.

This latest round of debt cancellation comes on the heels of President Biden announcing new plans that, IF IMPLEMENTED, would cancel student debt for over 30 million Americans when combined with actions the Administration has taken over the last three years. This week’s announcements reinforce the President’s commitment to using every path available to deliver student debt relief to as many borrowers as possible through various actions. 374 The ones that drive me bonkers are the women woodworkers on YooToob that stuff their asses into yoga pants while constructing a whatever. Their professional skills are between terrible and acceptable but they make their $$ due to their butt cheeks.

How stunning and brave ladies!

381 Here is some art from a couple of my favorites. Joni Mitchell and R Crumb.

I was a fan of Crumb's when he was in Zap Comics, full of hallucinogenic X-rated fun, in those golden days of hippies, weed, and war.

Watch this terrific video, Joni doing Big Yellow Taxi and R showing the transformation from paradise to parking lot.

383 Guy I worked with, he's a PhD chemist and his wife, she's a pediatrician, who live in a gated community, the most expensive house in a gated community, both drive new Volos and have their kids in expensive private schools...

are all excited about having their student loans paid off by "Joe".

This guy considers himself to be a big time conservative but he seems to quietly personally support all the lefty causes. But he says he hates Joe Biden. I don't get it.

391 The man in front is probably drinking Genever, the original Dutch gin. Bols started to distill it in the 1500s. Anton van Wees of Amsterdam makes good Genever in traditional clay bottles (Fleijes) as well as other Dutch liqueurs like their rose-petal flavored one "Rose without Thorns", a Christmas flavored holiday one "Heaven on Earth" and a traditional Bitteroranje one for Koningsdag in late April.
