Wednesday Morning Rant

mannixape2.jpg

Totality Useless

Despite the Horde's penchant for curmudgeonry (yeah, I know it's not a word - deal with it), I took a trip to see the total eclipse. It was fun and the weather was great. I really enjoyed myself and had a very nice time. I went - along with thousands of other people - to Paducah, KY, which was in the path of totality. It was a regional draw, with most license plates being from Georgia, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky. People descended on Paducah from all over the south.

And Paducah did a great job of preparing for the eclipse and putting on a fun time. They closed off a few blocks of downtown to turn it into a street fair with normal tourist fare - food, tchotchkes, t-shirts, games, hippie palmists, etc. - all with good preparation and plenty of sanitation facilities. If you've ever been to a well-run street fair, you know the deal. It was pleasant and fun and most people were friendly and in a good mood. One group, however, clearly didn't get the memo because I saw this when I walked into the event:

mccracken_gop_crop_thumb.jpg
Click to embiggen

The McCracken County GOP couldn't be bothered to show up. Nobody was in the office. The lights weren't even on. Just posters for a local candidate stuck in the window and a life-sized cardboard cutout of Donald Trump grinning out at the street from behind dark glass. This was likely the biggest event that Paducah will see this year and nobody in the McCracken County GOP thought, "gee, maybe we should open our permanent office that's right on the fair route."

It isn't like there was no traffic or opportunity. I had to try a couple of times to get the picture above, because there were usually crowds of people standing in front of it, blocking the shot. How many thousands of people walked by the office and it didn't even register because it was closed and dark? How many thousands of people walked by the office and thought as I did that this is a useless party that can't even open its doors on the biggest day of the year? It wasn't even a weekend!

There was also, apparently, no prohibition on politicking. There was a group with a booth at that street fair advocating for an Article V convention to impose term limits and other reforms. A group of citizens lobbying for a fairly radical approach to government reform found the inner fire to register for a booth, set up their table and - most unusually, apparently - show up to promote their cause. Those people are discontented enough with the current state of affairs that they want to pursue radical change. The GOP, apparently, is pleased with how things are going.

Yes, most of the people there aren't interested in or qualified to vote for Eddie Jones, the local candidate in the window. But this is a presidential election year and this was a regional draw. Trump may be likely to win Tennessee, Alabama and Florida, but North Carolina, Kentucky and Georgia are a different story. What did the McCracken County GOP do to make undecideds at that event feel good or make them want to consider voting GOP this year? Nothing.

Not everything should be politicized. I don't even blame the McCracken County GOP for not hiring a booth in the fair itself. The Democrats didn't, either. Okay. But the county GOP has a permanent office right on the fair route! They didn't have to do anything but show up, turn on the lights, open the door, be friendly to passers-by and engage in some old-fashioned retail politics. They couldn't be bothered to make even the minimum effort.

This is a party that does not want to win. The GOP is useless in totality.

But even for a blackpilled cynic like me, failing to even show up at the permanent offices they already had right on the fair route was pretty astonishing.

48 I love Paducah. It's just a couple hours from where I grew up, and I usually try to get there once or twice a year. The downtown section is great, it has one of the best wineries in the region, and there's a Books-A-Million, which frankly has--wait for it--*eclipsed* Barnes & Noble in its range of selections. (Sorry.)

As to the quality of the local GOP organization, I know nothing. Western Kentucky is pretty conservative, like most of the state, and I suspect that makes Republican "leaders" pretty complacent much of the time. Then again, this is the same state that re-elected the Democrat Covidiot Andy Bashear as governor, so what do I know.

I dont think there's any question Trump is doing better than either of the last 2 elections. Biden is terrible, any candidate SHOLD be doing way better.

I think though what you need to be careful about with polling is usually the amount of undecideds are a large number. So it might be Biden 39-Trump 37 and you can "wow, that's closer than last time" when the reality is like 20%+ have not answered and most will come "home" to what they did last time.

70 Interesting article came my way this morning. It seems 5,300 year old iceman "Otzi", found in the Italian Tyroll, continues to amaze. He has 61 tattoos, and while they were originally thought to be therapeutic (for his arthritis), it is now thought they were decorative. Tattoo artists got involved in the Otzi study and showed scholars how the tattoos were made.

It also seems Otzi got into a big fight in the last day or so before he died, because he had defensive wounds and his weapons were damaged, and that he was subsequently murdered as he trekked at 10,000 feet, shot in the back with an arrow that pierced an artery. He fell into an ice crevasse and then was quickly covered by more snowpack, so his corpse couldn't be robbed and was well preserved, which is how scholars have been able to learn so much about him.

This required virtually no planning and literally no money. They already had the facility, right on the street where the fair was. *All* they needed to was show up.

They couldn't bothered.

That fits in with my theory. Republicans in swing states can't afford to be as complacent as in deep red ones; those in charge of the party may *want* to be, but they're more likely to be challenged by grassroots activists who better understand what's at stake. Hence the success of folks like Youngkin.

106 70 Interesting article came my way this morning.

I was not dismissive of the cheat. I expected them to ramp up after dropping the ball in 2016. I was, however, not overly concerned by that prospect and was taken by surprise with just how outrageous, public and obvious it was.

My assessment in 2020 was that Trump was going to win *despite* increased cheating because he was above the margin of fraud. What I failed to understand is that the margin of fraud didn't actually exist. The concept itself depends on the condition that it not be so obvious as to be undeniable, because of the subsequent lack of legitimacy. 2020 taught me that there are no limits beyond mechanical limits. It can be as obvious as the day is long and it won't matter. If they can produce enough ballots, they can get the job done and legitimacy is no longer a concern.

I've acknowledged that fundamental error many times over the past few years.

Some small pockets here and there where some individual GOP NC member won't endorse, or something, but they're getting the kind of funding and support in general from the NC GOP itself as well as donors.

Treating non-milquetoast candidates like normal candidates is what Democrats always do and the GOP almost never does. Hell the GOP treats milquetoast GOP candidates with a bad news cycle as trash normally.

Same woke political bullshit over that find. Quick, let's whip up some bullshit genetic study to determine -- contrary to a lot of evidence -- that he was of American Indian descent, and then hand over the body to Indians to dispose of it. Case closed.

Don't get me wrong. He may very well have been of Indian descent. But the way in which the whole thing went down screamed a political hit job to appease American Indians, who in the past 40 years have become the whiniest pussies on the planet.

We cannot allow anything -- ANYTHING to suggest that any other ethnic group ever set foot in the Americans before the Indians did.

How Brazilian judge Alexandre de Moraes got into power

de Moraes' predecessor, Teori Zavascki, perished in a mysterious plane crash following his authorization of an investigation into dozens of politicians for corruption in 2017 as part of "Operation Car Wash." His twin-engine aircraft crashed during a holiday flight to Rio de Janeiro. As reported by Time, the enquiry ensnared almost every Brazilian politician, including President Michel Temer, who was then president and named in plea bargains.

"Zavascki had just returned from vacation and was shortly due to rule on the eligibility of plea bargain testimonies by 77 Odebrecht executives, which are thought likely to implicate many of the most powerful figures in Brazil and its Latin American neighbours," the Guardian reported.

A further investigation into the crash found no mechanical failures with the plane. Per the Guardian and other reports, "flight recordings suggested there was no equipment malfunction" and communications with the pilot had no indication that he was suffering any difficulties.

Enter Alexandre de Moraes, who was President Temer's appointed replacement for Zavascki while serving as Minister of Justice and Public Security for Temer's government.

Prior to his appointment in 2016, de Moraes was at the beck and call of President Temer, who was allegedly the subject of a hacker who was trying to blackmail the president with compromising information and photos he got from Temer's wife's stolen phone. de Moraes lept into action at Temer's request and arrested the alleged hacker in a heartbeat.

Guess you could say Temer owed him one when he appointed him to lead the judiciary.

Dessert is salted caramel pistachio cake with a matcha ganache and cherry ice cream.

Some of Jill Biden's favorite flowers, including roses and peonies, are being used alongside imported cherry blossoms to decorate a mix of round and rectangular tables in shades of pink, with a few of the floral centerpieces topping out at 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall.

Tables will be set with a mix of place settings representing the administrations of Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and George W. Bush. Glass and silk butterflies will dance over the tables and the hallway on the State Floor will be outfitted to give guests the feel of walking atop a koi pond.

DOD Able to Send Additional Assistance to Ukraine Using Unexpected Army Savings
March 12, 2024 | By C. Todd Lopez , DOD News |
The Defense Department today announced additional security assistance for Ukraine. Included in this assistance are artillery rounds and rockets for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System. The package totals $300 million.

WaPo, yesterday - The Pentagon has provided Ukraine with thousands of Iranian-origin weapons seized enroute to Houthi militants in Yemen, U.S. officials said Tuesday, marking the Biden administration's latest infusion of emergency support for Kyiv while a multibillion-dollar aid package remains stalled in Congress.

As a pledge, of course, my job was to accompany her for periodic rest stops at very scary, isolated redneck bars to bars to make sure she was ok, and to keep the beer supply going.

288 Biden's new State Department diversity chief labelled America as "failed historic model" with "colonizing past." Come read her word salad.

"In every position I have held, from junior associate to Senior Advisor, there have been opportunities to challenge the forces that seek to silence women and those most vulnerable in society. In those board rooms, in the tight knit working group, in the advocacy and activist spaces and in grand bureaucracies, there are mechanisms and cultures which dispute the humanity and ability of people like me to be trusted to lead. This happens, not because we are unprepared or unwilling, but because the rules created in our organizations and baked into their very foundations, are often riddled with racism, patriarchy and exclusion. These are chinks in the armor of traditional leadership that refuse to reconcile with a colonizing past, or recognize that time has run out for experimentation and tweaking of a failed historic model."

I'm convinced too many powerful people need the border open to facilitate the global sex trafficking problem. I have no evidence of that - except that I know such a ring does exist and the open border helps it thrive. But as politically explosive as the border issue is, and how much of a political winner it is to actually close it - I assume something terrible and tragic (and profitable to the elites) supports keeping it open. Why else the complaint when Johnson tried to tie it together with Ukraine funding. Makes no sense - so I assume the worst.

299 Trump isn't going to lose Kentucky. Thinking that he might because the McCracken County GOP had better things to do during a local festival than make some of their volunteers staff an office that nobody was going to pay attention to while the Wolf Moon was devouring the Sun Princess is one of the most retarded things I've seen farted out by one of the cobloggers around here in a long time.

If we get to October and there are rumors that Kentucky is in play, then you need to stick a fork in Cheeto Jesus because he's done.
