Anime chat from the GAINZZZ thread:
234 For me, a big part of my "sleep hygiene" is turning off the lights for an 30-60 minutes before I go to sleep and watching anime. You know, Japanese cartoons, which irritates the beautiful and generally magnanimous Mrs naturalfake. "You're ( ) years old, why are you watching cartoons?" Eh, they're low involvement, low stakes, and generally a simple watch. Perfect pre-sleep fodder. Speaking of which... If you're an anime person, check out "Frieren" it's an excellent anime concerning an elf who was part of a questing group that conquered the Demon King after ten years. They won, then broke up and went on their ways. The elf said she'd be back buuuuut, since elves live for several thousands of years, time is very different for her. By the time she gets back, the members of her questing group are old and feeble, dying, or dead. She realizes she missed out on being with them and starts to retrace the path of their previous quest. Check it out. Posted by: naturalfake at April 05, 2024 05:20 PM (nFnyb) Posted by: m at April 06, 2024 04:06 AM (o3SCB) 7

The temperature will drop in the shadow, the path of totality, by an average of 10F. During the 2017 event, which passed right over us, my cousin measured that, and some other things. Those of you in the path will be able to see nearly all the visible planets during the eclipse. They'll be lined up in a nice row across the ecliptic. I remember Venus popping up during the 2017 one here. That beautiful eerre Corona light, and Venus shining brightly in the middle of the day. Any from "upper left" to lower of the eclipsed Sun, you'll see Jupiter, Mercury to the upper left, then Venus, Saturn and Mars to the lower right. Mercury, however will be very dim, and it's phase is very low, and will have it's backside turned nearly all the way to us that day, so you might not see it too well. Nope, it needs to be 100%. You need to be inside the shadow fully to see anything much. Even a crescent sliver of the Sun makes it still too bright. There's no cure for shingles. Early treatment with prescription antiviral drugs may speed healing and lower your risk of complications. These drugs include: Acyclovir (Zovirax) Famciclovir Valacyclovir (Valtrex) Shingles can cause severe pain, so your health care provider also may prescribe: Capsaicin topical patch (Qutenza) Anticonvulsants, such as gabapentin (Neurontin, Gralise, Horizant) Tricyclic antidepressants, such as amitriptyline Numbing agents, such as lidocaine, in the form of a cream, gel, spray or skin patch An injection including corticosteroids and local anesthetics Posted by: Aetius451AD at April 06, 2024 07:02 AM (di6C2) 152

Cambodia and Soviet Union set up their notorious camps primarily to go after intelligentsia along with any common criminals. To continue, if anything is to happen, you will see something like the terrors where civil society breaks down into a killing field where mobs are directed at perceived enemies via the media. Think Rwanda, the French Revolution with its Committees of Public Safety, and so on.
Camps come into existence only when control is consolidated by the winning side and that generally requires an interregnum after winning the civil disorder sweepstakes. Posted by: whig at April 06, 2024 07:08 AM (G0ieF) 159

Posted by: Aetius451AD ====== Well, estimates of sociopaths in a population are about 7-10 percent of the population and this overlaps the criminal class substantially. But, this works both ways in an unconsolidated state because the sociopaths gravitate toward wherever they can obtain power to get whatever their personal jollies are. Uniparty is an example--the GOP has long elected sociopaths like McCain as a senator for example; because at his time and place, it was easier to climb the greasy pole in AZ by pretending to be a military hero as politician. That has been repeated substantially by GOPe people like Ronna selected to run the RNC, and so on. Posted by: whig at April 06, 2024 07:13 AM (G0ieF) 165

This is a reminder anyone that had chicken pox has the shingle virus in their cells and that the 2 shot Shingrix shingles vaccine is over 97% effective (the 1st anti shingle vaccine was only 67% IIRC).
Posted by: AZ deplorable moron ======= I recently took the first Shingrix being of an age and having had chickenpox way back when. I had nasty time with the first shot for a couple of days (plus autoimmune issues come into play for me). Apparently the reaction comes from the adjuvant added to Shingrix to make a stronger reaction. The Arexvy RSV vaxx apparently has a similar adjuvant for those thinking of taking a non-mRNA vaxx for that. My immunologist is pretty good about telling me in advance whether to actually take a vaxx or not. He advised against the mRNA way back when during the time of Covids. Does anyone have any idea what she was talking about? Posted by: Cybersmythe ======= Netflix, Google (you tube), and some other streaming services were afraid that the big telecom providers would throttle services that did not have strategic profit sharing type contractual arrangements. Google went out and built its own end user type fiber optic system in a few places. But essentially, it was a temporary issue that did not need a fix as bandwidth of internet available to a lot of users exceeds what is needed to stream even 4k video in most places. Better compression and more extensive use of existing bandwidth along with Space X and broadband cell service have largely killed it as an active issue for consumers. The only reason to bring it up again is to allow regulators to determine content in streaming and priorities in service by network providers. Posted by: whig at April 06, 2024 07:46 AM (G0ieF) 225
