One of our suburban parishes (that's like counties in civilized states) plans to dismiss school kids in late morning on Monday ahead of The Eclipse. It's not going to be total here, though (?), but I guess the schools need to be sure they're not liable if some rugrat disobeys the rule and looks directly at the eclipse.
Other parishes and the city proper are not going to let the kids go early. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at April 05, 2024 05:38 AM (omVj0) 44

"Looks like it should comfortably beat Intel and not embarrass itself against Apple and AMD. That's a huge improvement against earlier attempts which were just about capable of running Notepad."
From what I've been able to figure out the earlier versions were nothing but fancy ass cell phone CPUs stuffed into a Surface Pro box. The performance of these machines were mediocre but you have to start somewhere. These new Snapdragon Elite CPUs are something completely different and we are now finally getting some concrete evidence that they're good. What caught my eye is for the first time is battery life performance is being noted and it is anywhere from 40% to 200% more than the Intel chips used in the story. That is a win. It also seems Intel's x86 throttle hold on the Windows PC market seems to be broken. Now all Qualcomm has to do is go out and convince everybody that this is the case. My prediction is a bloodbath of Intel FUD will play out over the next couple years. Posted by: Lost in Space at April 05, 2024 06:55 AM (ksmXa) 108

Well J.J. and his morning report are beloved here. He brings it. He is a good man, just like you are, when you host your pirate flag and look for booty on the lake waters. Hope both you and your wife are doing well. Posted by: NaCly Dog at April 05, 2024 06:53 AM (u82oZ) Wouldn't it be easier to look for Booty on the lake shore ? I think what will ultimately grind the current insanity away is that it's depressing and boring. They can't keep a base of support together with mere bitching about imagined frivolities. Their Clowardish Pivening is making the day ever harder to get through, and pissing and moaning about Trump's taxes is becoming a luxury the great unwashed can ill afford.

>It also seems Intel's x86 throttle hold on the Windows PC market seems to be broken.
Do not underestimate the difficulty in getting an OS to run well on a completely different CPU architecture. And then there's the fact that you either get everyone in the world to recompile their apps or you emulate x86_64 on ARM, neither of which works very well. >It's like...
