Be All That You Can ONT

Hi everybody! Welcome to Thursday's ONT. C'mon downstairs and we'll get started.

Just struck me as a really weird layout for stairs.

That's from a Savannah Bananas baseball game. I'd never heard of them, but apparently they're like the Harlem Globetrotters of Baseball. You can read more about them here. Now I'd really like to go to see them, but unfortunately they're sold out through 2024.

Headline Of The Week

Vaginal weightlifter sex coach charged with assaulting census taker who knocked at door

A “vaginal weightlifter” who runs “intimacy retreats” has been charged following an alleged altercation with a 60-year-old census worker.

Sex and relationship coach Kimberley Hawrelak, 50, is said to have attacked an employee of the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The worker had knocked on the door of her multi-million-dollar home in New South Wales.

According to the Daily Mail, the incident happened last August at her property in Cumming Parade, Point Lookout, which is in the New England region of the state.

Canadian-born Hawrelak, who has almost 200,000 followers on Facebook and Instagram, has a podcast called Orgasmic Enlightenment and describes herself as a “vaginal weightlifter (and) surfer”.

A Multi-million dollar home huh? Kinda sad how vaginal weightlifting has become corrupted by money. I remember when it was all about love of the sport.

Science Corner

The World’s 10 Most Endangered Animals of 2024

Out of all five rhino species, the javan rhino is the most endangered. With fewer than 70 left in the wild, they are likely to go extinct from disease, poaching, and habitat destruction. These rhinos are known to be found roaming in the Ujong Kulon National Park in Indonesia. In Vietnam, the last known javan rhino in this area was poached in 2010.

I really like how some countries are moving against poachers. A lot of these preserves are guarded round the clock with heavily armed troops that have shoot to kill orders if they spot a poacher. Good. I wonder how that would work on the southern border...

Sports

NFL owners approve massive revamp to kickoff play

There's video of how it works at the link.

During the 2024 season, kickers will continue to kick from the 35-yard line, but the other 10 players on the kickoff team will line up at the receiving team's 40-yard line. At least nine members of the return team will line up in a "setup zone" between the 35- and 30-yard lines. Up to two returners can line up in a "landing zone" between the goal line and the 20-yard line.

No one other than the kicker and returner(s) can move until the ball hits the ground or hits a player inside the landing zone. Touchbacks will be marked at the 30-yard line, and no fair catches will be allowed. In the event a team wants to attempt an onside kick, it will have to inform officials of its intent and would then be allowed to use the NFL's traditional formation. No surprise onside kicks will be allowed.

So what do you think? If they return to the actual traditional onside kick, where the players run along with the kicker, I like that bit. Onside kicks from a standing start are almost impossible to pull off. As to the rest...I dunno. Anyone got an opinion?

Unrest In The Hat

Canadians Present A Major Threat If They Realize They Won’t Own A Home: RCMP

One of the concerns law enforcement is warning about is the impact of eroding economic conditions. Especially when it comes to young adults.

“The coming period of recession will also accelerate the decline in living standards that the younger generations have already witnessed compared to earlier generations,” reads the report.

Canada may have seen a pandemic economic boom, but it was largely related to rapidly appreciating real estate. Unfortunately, that doesn’t apply to young adults who saw housing get further out of reach.

“For example, many Canadians under 35 are unlikely to ever buy a place to live. The fallout from this decline in living standards will be exacerbated by the difference between the extremes of wealth, which is greater now in developed countries than it has been at any time in several generations,” warns the RCMP.

So it turns out that people tend to get upset when you wreck the economy with left wing economic policy, tax them to death to support it and import millions of migrants, many of whom live on the dole. This is my shocked face.

Beep Beep It's A Jeep

Origins of the Jeep: The Birthing of an Off-Road Legend

You won't find an "Aha!" moment in the jeep story. The closest is a meeting between a U.S. Army Ordnance subcommittee and the American Bantam Car Company of Butler, Pennsylvania, in early June of 1940. The subcommittee was on a fact-finding mission and included representatives of the various branches of the Army. The initial goal was to discuss light reconnaissance vehicles to replace the motorcycle and see some militarized Bantam cars in action. It's clear a light 4x4 was in the minds of the subcommittee, so the general idea was discussed and Bantam's brain trust proffered some good ideas.

Not long after the subcommittee meetings, Bantam presented a very complete set of vehicle specifications and plans, and offered to negotiate a contract for a small run of experimental 4x4 vehicles. That offer was refused, and Bantam was later shocked to learn the government was sending out invitations to bid on a short-wheelbase 4x4 to a large number of auto manufacturers. That grated especially hard because Bantam had helped flesh out the specifications. The paperwork specified a rigid schedule for completion of the first prototype in 49 days and final delivery of 61 vehicles 26 days after that prototype was approved. An additional two weeks was allotted for the completion of eight four-wheel-steer variants for a total of 70 vehicles.

The article also traced the development of the Willys and Ford models. Interesting stuff.

Texit

All Glory to Independent Texas, Comrade!

Jim Geraghty claims that a lot of the talk of a Texas secession from the union is Russian propaganda. Maybe so, but I have to tell you, a lot of people down here are muttering about it under their breath. And I take issue with this paragraph:

Let’s also note that the independent electric grid of Texas that he’s boasting about has been, er, less than ideal in recent years. After the major power crisis in winter 2021, it’s tough to believe that any Texan would be boasting that the electric grid is one of the reasons the state ought to secede.

Well, we had to take a lot of oil and gas power stations offline and replace them with boondoggles like wind and solar because of federal mandates. That was a huge contributor to the power problems. If we remove the feds, you can be damn sure we'd reverse those. Texas has more than enough natural gas to power the entire state, we'd damn sure use it.

23 That stair layout is something else.

My suggestion for candidates for eternal damnation is for the engineers/designers that came up with the attachment procedure for filtered water faucets at the kitchen sink countertop.

How the **** can one effectively get any type of wrench on the nut that threads onto the stem poking into the cabinet?

I had to jam my rather thick self into the cavity and reach up to attempt to tighten that thang. Oh wait - it's really a three handed process. Bastids.

88 Draw a graph. A steady line upward, a brief plateau, and then a decline. This is always the way of a civilization that falls. That decline is when the people realize they will not enjoy the life of the previous generation, nor will they be able, or allowed to grow and achieve more.
Posted by: Diogenes at April 04, 2024 10:13 PM (W/lyH)

The decline is usually very abrupt, too. Things may be going along swimmingly, even slightly downhill, until it quickly becomes a steep cliff with the bottom literally falling out.

I am so sick and tired of saying this, but each time it just seems more and more true: This election is going to be the most important of my lifetime for a lot of people for a lot of reasons. Are the globalists going to stick their fingers in our eyes again and steal an election while calling us crazy? Are we allowing in the country the army us citizens will have to fight in a civil war for OUR Nation? When goods and services stop happening/being delivered, it's all over. We are fast approaching that point. Just a few more 'green' laws and 'bridge accidents' ought to do the trick, if they can steal 'this most important of my lifetime' election.

102 During the 2024 season, kickers will continue to kick from the 35-yard line, but the other 10 players on the kickoff team will line up at the receiving team's 40-yard line. At least nine members of the return team will line up in a "setup zone" between the 35- and 30-yard lines. Up to two returners can line up in a "landing zone" between the goal line and the 20-yard line.

And they score 4 blerns if they bounce the kickoff off the uprights.

169 Just struck me as a really weird layout for stairs.

------

It is. And so is the paint, and the extension of the case beyond floor level.

I'm guessing they added an exterior door, and had to raise a section of floor by the landing, to meet the ground above the original foundation, or to meet some insane local building code.

Deere is getting a lot of flak (deservedly, IMHO) from the Right-To-Repair folks. There is a lot of proprietary service information they won't make public.

Kubota is sort of the gold standard for acreage tractors, but I believe both Kyoti and Mahindra make some pretty solid units.

You are talking about a major investment here. Doesn't hurt to see what some of the other makers have on offer.

From J.J. Sefton

In light of a medical situation back in February that I had hinted at, you may have wondered about yesterday's Morning Report and connected the dots. Unfortunately, your instincts are correct. After suffering some sort of seizure back in February, while the initial MRI and spinal tap showed nothing, a subsequent MRI this past Friday evidently seems to indicate that I might have some sort of brain tumor/growth that would require immediate attention. Skid steers do one thing very well, they move material and anything else they do is sub-optimal.

I have a buddy who would endorse this. But if mowing or plowing is a big part of the machine's projected work, I doubt a skid steer would fill the bill.

190 I'm not sure why the NFL doesn't just go full National Flagball League. If the players today had to play teams like Baltimore from the early '60s or the Packers from the mid '60s, or the Steelers from the '70s, or a host of other great teams from when football was football, these modern players would be crying for their mommas. Yes, they have speed and agility now. But back then, the tackles were meant to hurt you. It wasn't a game for showboaters.

191 I had a friend, though whenever owned a dog or cat, liked to raise other animals. He had some kind of piranha, a bunch of other weird fish, raised chickens and guinea hens, etc. He incubated some golden pheasant eggs, raised some, and ended up with more than he knew what to do with. He set them free in some woods near a lake and they became a successful colony. Don't know their status now, but the web says there are quite a few feral colonies of them throughout USA. They are native to China, quite pretty.

Our own ring-necked pheasant is not really native here either, hailing from mostly Eurasia. Introduced many countries of the world for hunting.

IAMNAL, but from what I can gather, being disbarred in one state does not necessarily prevent an attorney from practicing in another US state or territory. A lot of variations in state law complicates things, and in a given case, the presiding judge would have the ability to accept or reject the disbarred attorney ability to appear before him at trial. There are statutory limits on disbarment, and in many states it is possible to apply for re--admission. No guarantees of success if one does so, of course.

Can relate. I've been rubbing my chin thinking about adding a snow blower attachment (front mount) and the backhoe. All the attachments go on and come off pretty easily on the 1025R. PTO was a bit tricky until I got the hang of it. Now zip, zip - very easy.

268 231 I have a question for you scholars here. John Eastman is a constitutional scholar and a highly respected jurist. How can they just disbar him because they dont like him? Is he disbarred everywhere or just that one state? Can he be reinstated if this country ever returns to normality?
Posted by: Anna

IAMNAL, but from what I can gather, being disbarred in one state does not necessarily prevent an attorney from practicing in another US state or territory. A lot of variations in state law complicates things, and in a given case, the presiding judge would have the ability to accept or reject the disbarred attorney ability to appear before him at trial. There are statutory limits on disbarment, and in many states it is possible to apply for re--admission. No guarantees of success if one does so, of course.

Posted by: John Drake at April 04, 2024 11:13 PM (ruzO0)

The whole thing is a sham disbarrment. Evidence that others came to similar conclusions as he did on those issues was banned by the Judge, a big libble donor.

At the whistle, the "kicker" signals all three vans to enter the racing oval at 45 mph. 1 of N

Oh, the NYGOP has been non-existent long before those assholes were around. Gov. Pataki was a serious aberration.

My favorite Pataki story was he ran on the death penalty. He actually managed to bring it back for a short while before the courts short-circuited him. Of course, no one was executed. But anyway, Thomas Grasso was a prisoner in NY serving 25 to Life for murder. In Oklahome, they tried him first, then let NY have a crack at him. In Oklahoma, he was giver the death penalty. Mario Cuomo was governor, a staunch anti-DP guy. So once the trial was over, OK wanted Grass back.

Kickoff

The players on the receiving team quickly decide which van to stop, do so, and then open the package at the front of that vehicle's queue. If it contained the real football, the run toward the opposite goal begins and "usual" play rules are in effect. If the selected van instead had a dummy ball, players from the kicking team split into two squads and rush the remaining two vans and open the packages at the front of each van's queue. One of those two vans has the real football, and it is the kicking teams to advance toward their opponents goal line, if they can keep hold of it (tough noogies, receiving team). Remember, there are at most six of their team members at this van, and only those five or six players can touch or move the ball against ALL eleven of the (formerly) receiving team. For sportiest play, the three delivery vans resume racing in the midfield oval during whichever runback is in progress.

Competition, thy name is "NFL Kickoffs"!

Cuomo said no, being against the death penalty, even the there is a state compact about states who triy a criminal first, then is tried in other states, the first state gets ultimate dibs. So Pataki gets elected. First thing he does after being sworn in is to sign the extradition papers shipping Grasso's ass back to OK for execution. Grasso is somewhat famous for his last words. He said something like 'I asked for Spaghetti-O's. I got spaghetti. I thought the press should know that.' Then bye-bye.

Then we had Gov. Spits or Swallows, Gov. Blind Man's Peterson and Gov. Gropin' Cuomo. Now we have Gov. Hokum, who apparently has never heard of the 4th Amendment. The NYGOP can't even beat these clowns.

Our cat Mocha, who recently had ear surgery, has tumors on her lower jaw and under the tongue. We are going to lose her. Right now she is okay, still doing cat things and enjoying her food. Vet says 6 -12 months. Mocha is 14 and has been with us since we found her in our back yard at about 4-6 weeks. She is the most intelligent of all our numerous cats. She knows her name and we only have to say it once and she'll turn around. She talks to us. I firmly believe she knows many English phrases.

Happy news: we looked at the tail end of the kittens. Preliminary count is 5 males and 1 female. Will double-check tomorrow.

Water meter? Possibly. But both seem to be connected by a hunk of that corrugated metal flex tubing commonly seen on gas installs. If one meter is a few years newer than the other, that could explain the difference.

376 Weird D

I accept your invitation to express an opinion about the new NFL kickoff return rule:

It's an unalloyed "ALL GOOD!", imo.

Last year, the kickoff/touchback rules produced 85% "ceremonial plays"-- similar to PATs (point after touchdown). Dead time for the fans. YAWN.

The new rules should facilitate a LOT more kickoff returns, which are exciting for the fans! No more ho-hum touchbacks.

The gripe about the new rules is that they might cause more concussions. Bullshit! Concussions can happen on punt returns NOW-- or on any other play NOW.

The abolition of "hip/twist tackles" (lifting a player completely off the ground & slamming him to the turf) will likely reduce concussions, AND potential spinal injuries. That new rule goes into effect next year, along with the new kick return rules. Most NFL fans are completely unaware of THIS new rule, & never heard of (or saw) these dangerous plays which are now outlawed.

There is the Antonov AN-124, several of which still fly. But we don't see them every month in Houston, as we used to, before the war.

Somehow, I don't think they'll get THAT one built to completion, either.

Not a Plantagenet. Owen Tudor was a Welshman.

Henry VIII's mother was a direct descendant of the cadet branch of the Plantagenets known as the House of York, so you could argue that he was half-Plantagenet. People during his reign frequently spoke of his resemblance to his maternal Yorkist grandfather who was regarded as handsome and charismatic in the eyes of the English people.

Hello, JQ! Well, I'm not sure I'm up to Dagny's high standards for human servants anyway -- though once in a while she displays a bit of affection. Both Saturday and Sunday afternoon last weekend, she hopped onto the bed with me and all three of us napped together. Big Stirling, on the other hand, is really being affectionate; without her here to play with, all he has is me.

Yes, the Tudors really had little claim to the throne. Henry VII's invasion of England was made possible by the French, financing and troops provided by them.

It was the last invasion of the British Isles by a foreign power. The French helped install their candidate and kill the rightful king, Richard III.

410 One more day to crawl through before the weekend. This Saturday I'll get the bracelet on my watch adjusted and buy a new leather strap I can switch to when the spirit moves. The bracelet, an aftermarket Jubilee-style (the small links), is one I bought in '04 or early '05. No doubt it's stretched a little, so that the watch slides around to the far side of my wrist right when I need to consult the time. The Oyster bracelet on my other watch, the type with the larger flat links, I've had even longer. But it still fits fine.

I might switch that watch to the rubber Tropic strap, though.

Hi MLiL, nice to see you. Yes, very wet here now. We were spoiled w/ nice temps earlier. The end of Feb one day was 76. Our daffodils bloomed early and the tulips are getting ready.

This cold spell should pass by Sun, but they keep moving that projection. Yeah, I'm a true believer in global warmering climate change, since they can't tell me what's going to happen next week w/ any accuracy.

419 Quite a few years ago, my sister was out of town and I was watching her cats. She had two black Persians. She was very insistent about it.

Indeed. That was said after he made a direct ride at the usurper Tyyder, after the Stanleys betrayed him. Richard died after a heroic attempt to personally kill the usurper.

Henry Tyyder was surrounded by guards, he never fought himself. And he was such an asshole he predated his reign to the day before Bosworth, thus making Richard's defenders traitors. (An early Bill Clinton, what does is mean)

I think Richard III is one of the of the first and best examples of publicity being manipulated, and reputation destroyed.

At least nine members of the return team will line up in a "setup zone" between the 35- and 30-yard lines. Up to two returners can line up in a "landing zone" between the goal line and the 20-yard line.

This is the gayest shit I've ever heard. I'm glad I lived when I did because the next 50 years are going to really suck.
Posted by: JackStraw at April 04, 2024 10:21 PM (LkLld)

Its probably better than the current situation where there are no kick returns to speak of. If you blast it out the end zone, the return team gets an extra five yards.

To answer the question on onside kicks, the kicking team if behind can declare an onside kick and then it is done as in the old system. So aside from no 'surprise' onside kicks anymore the situation is the same.
