Last two houses, but not this one, I installed a decent Broan hood $700 fan not included.
First Houston I used the low end fan and it caused a downdraft through the chimney (fireplace in use) and filled the house with smoke and ash in seconds. Solution to that FWP - since I had a crawlspace I pulled the stove and installed a 12" relief air ducr with a butterfly valve below the stove. Is there an advantage to using scented candles over the other scenting options, like potpourri, the melty wax blocks, diffusers, and other options I see around? I assume candles were the only option in the past, and maybe the others are hardy to DIY?

On my plumbing problem last week ( laundry sink pump stopped working in part) the problem was sink to drain connection was not threading. So used Flex Seal and glued the pipe to the sink. Works like a charm. Do have a better PVC part to make a better sink connection but as long as it's fine don't take it apart.

OK the old stinky wick problem. Commercial candle makers seem to pretreat wicks for the slow burn. I wouldn't use plain string that would be stoopid.

Do a little research on the wick sizes. They need to be proportional to the diameter of the candle. Too small will have a tiny flame. Too big will tunnel down. Trimming it correctly will help also.

I think Fetterman has already earned a little MAGA love. I'm willing to cut him some slack. He may be on the road to Damascus.
If Sinema had been shrewder, she would've switched to the GOP & been done with it. She'd be headed for re-election if she had. Because Schumer only has a 1-vote majority, & then only with the VP's vote, Sinema had enormous leverage with the GOP. "What can you do for me if I flip the Senate for you? And give you control of both the House & Senate?" Posted by: mnw at April 07, 2024 03:47 PM (NLIak) 114
Skip wicks altogether. My wife started using a candle warmer and it works really well. They're like $20 on Amazon.

>>>The neighbor who lives behind me wants to have a pool put in his backyard, and he came by this morning while I was working in the garden to ask if it would be possible for the pool contractor to drive a crane through my yard, said it would be easier to lower the pool from there into his backyard.
Had a neighbor who, very shortly after I moved, chastised me for ugly landscaping in front and sideyards. He recommended I get the hard / concrete edging like he just did. I advised him I was keeping the narrow sideyard open for backyard access for forthcoming improvements. I later received a letter from HAO telling me to fix the 'sub-standard' landscaping. Not even a year later I caught HIS contractor cutting across my yard with a bobcat bacause he had cut off his own access with hardscaping. So, parked my car there, gave a brief history to the contractor and that it won't happen again unless he wants to get trespassed. Others might have offered access for only $10,000 plus restoration. On the PA Turnpike headed to New Castle, PA. Near Ft. Littleton now. Yes, we are out to see the solar eclipse tomorrow. Lodging prices away from the path of totality haven't been jacked into the solar corona. From New Castle we can select from NE Ohio, NW Pennsylvania, and even western NY for a viewing spot. We'll see what the weather jackasses have to say for themselves tonight and tomorrow morning. There's even more exciting news to relate, but that'll have to wait until tomorrow evening for me to tell it. L8r, h8rs! I never thought Doug Jones was a boat rocker. As far as I remember, he made NO concessions to his conservative constituents. I may be wrong. I never paid that much attention to him.

My new problem, last night cooking dinner I was fluffing the rice with a fork & reached up to turn off the exhaust fan & pow, bright flash & down on the floor. Evedently I have a short in my stove top. Nice burn from the fork on the palm & a big bump where my head hit the floor. I'll be cooking with candles for awhile.

I have a predilection to the kerosene smell at airports, probably due to my love of planes
My dad loaded jet fuel onto tanker trucks, all night. He'd come home from the refinery in his "flameproof cotton" coveralls in the morning and get us up for school. Until I was in 7th grade or so I thought that was just what fathers smelled like. In the photo, the burnt wick looks like a question mark.
Posted by: m at April 08, 2024 12:59 AM (o3SCB) 138
You have to tailor your wick to the type of wax you are using AND the size of the candle. For non-taper candles, a small wick will burn OK, but burn a taper-sized hole down the center of a candle until it drowns.
Too big of a wick and the wax all melts and runs everywhere. Trial and error. Posted by: West at April 08, 2024 07:33 PM (Gv2Zc) Processing 0.02, elapsed 0.0295 seconds. |
