Top Story

  • New York city is installing expensive security scanners to protect passengers on its plague-ridden subway system. Scanners that may not actually work. (MSN)

The "AI enabled" (because of course) scanners cost around $3000... Per month. Each.

And the company behind them, Evolv, is currently under investigation by the SEC and FTC and being sued by its own shareholders.

The BBC had its own article on Evolv two years ago.
"Metallic composition, shape, fragmentation - we have tens of thousands of these signatures, for all the weapons that are out there," chief executive Peter George said last year, "all the guns, all the bombs and all the large tactical knives."

"Can we test it?" asked research firm IPVM.

"No way, get fucked, fuck off" came the reply.
    Further:
Asked why Evolv had been able to edit what was labelled an independent report, NCS4 told BBC News it "did not allow Evolv to directly edit the report".

"The 'track changes' feature was used as a means to collect feedback," an official said. "And to change inconvenient findings. Don't print that."

Scientific crap from the article:

"If they could use green hydrogen" - yes really cheap.

"By using wood in builds, the material continues to store some of the carbon dioxide the tree had cleaned from the air when it was alive. That air pollution is typically released when the wood is burned or when it decomposes, per the U.S. Forest Service.

These efforts can have a direct impact on our health, as well. Air pollution is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, cancer, and even dementia. "
Right, CO2 is toxic, causes heart disease, cancer and dementia. News to me.

16 For many, many years, certain... um, devices... yeah, that's it: 'devices' for self defense, have been available to *anyone* and are not restricted in any way (that I am aware of) anywhere.

Hairbrush, for example-- what comes apart to expose a very sharp pointed handle. No metal.

Then, there are the ceramic blades. Pretty colors, too!

Your imagination is your only limitation.

The criminals will get creative, and so will everyone else who wishes to preserve themselves/their family. Ugh.

25 With all the safe guards we now have running a nuclear power plant, its still very, very difficult to build a plant. Environmentalist of course object sternly to any such plant being built in most places.
Trying to build such a plant in upstate NY, I'm sure the governor would never, never approve. She is all in on solar and wind, and eliminating all fossil fuels, except for her limousine fleet of SUV's. (mostly GMC bullet proof heavyweights) New York has a plentiful supply of natural gas but the state forbids it being used and it will be phased out, if Kathy has her way.

Originally I'd planned for today to be the first day of retirement for yours truly. If SS hadn't screwed up my Medicare B, I'd be relaxing this morning. Well, they got the application in late February, and told me on the phone that it should come through by late April. So now I'm thinking May 31 as my last day at work.

I dread the idea of a recon drive to Indiana and Kentucky in June heat, but maybe it won't be so bad once I get out of this immediate region.

Apple Support claims the carrier is at fault, which causes amusement at the carrier's service desk. The Four Laws of Thermodynamics should be part of a comprehensive exam for city, state, and national planners.

My take on politicians and our Eurocrats (for Constitution 2.0):
-Only pay them if there in no tax, fee, or other increase on the people.
- Remove pension if debt for that political entity goes up.
- Make raising taxes for any reason an event that makes murder charges on the politician go away. (From Lone Star Planet by H. Beam Piper)
- All regs only reply to the regulators for one year, as a trial run. Enlist pissed off citizens as the enforcement arm. Penalty: Fired, loss of pension.

There are many other ideas.
