In 2018, Republicans accidentally legalized cannabis. Now 22 AGs want them to undo it

A coalition of 22 state attorneys general is calling on Congress to address “the glaring vagueness” that has led to legal cannabis products being sold over the counter across the country — including sometimes from vending machines or online.
A letter dated March 20 addresses the consequences of Republican lawmakers’ choice to legalize hemp production in the 2018 omnibus Farm Bill — a decision that perhaps inadvertently led to a multibillion-dollar market in intoxicating cannabis products that are arguably federally legal.
Now, the attorneys general want Congress to shutter the market it helped create. In the new Farm Bill, they want the legislature to enshrine in statute the idea that intoxicating cannabis is not federally legal — contrary to what the law currently states.
In other words, they want Congress to say that, by definition, hemp can’t get you high.

The Biden administration reiterated its observance of the Transgender Day of Visibility on Sunday, despite criticism from Republicans about the day falling on Easter Sunday.
Multiple members of Biden’s White House, including himself, recognized the holiday through posts on social media. Biden announced on Friday that Sunday would be recognized as Transgender Day of Visibility, a day of observance that has occurred since 2009 on March 31 each year.
This year, however, Easter Sunday also fell on March 31, prompting an outcry from Republicans that Biden was “canceling” the religious holiday.
“The Biden White House has betrayed the central tenet of Easter — which is the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said on X. “Banning sacred truth and tradition—while at the same time proclaiming Easter Sunday as “Transgender Day”—is outrageous and abhorrent. The American people are taking note.”
Despite the backlash, Biden and other members of his administration moved forward with embracing the holiday.
“On Transgender Day of Visibility, we celebrate the joy, strength, and absolute courage of some of the bravest people I know,” Biden posted on X on Sunday. “Today, we show millions of transgender and nonbinary Americans that we see them, they belong, and they should be treated with dignity and respect.”

Just once I wish they would celebrate their Perversion Holidays on a Muslim Holy Day. Imagine the backlash if perversion was celebrated on the Day of Arafah?

MARCH 25--A manufacturer of “fantasy-themed sex toys” has accused an upstart Brooklyn, New York firm of knocking off its distinctive designs, according to a federal lawsuit alleging that the defendant has infringed on copyrights for dildos such as “Spritz the Seadragon” and “Tyson the Water Buffalo.”
In a March 20 complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Arizona, Bad Dragon Enterprises contended that its “sculptural” products have been illegally copied by SinSaint, which is headquartered in a Coney Island warehouse and advertises that all its “Ethically Manufactured” toys are “made in Brooklyn, USA.”
Bad Dragon, which noted that it has had “significant commercial success” in the adult toy field, alleged that SinSaint has been selling the duplicative dildos through its website and other trade channels, including the recent AVN Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas (where the new firm’s exhibitor booth was next to that of the all-nude Palomino strip club).
The lawsuit identifies 13 separate dildos that Bad Dragon claims have been copied (and renamed) by SinSaint, which was incorporated in New York last year. The colorful silicone toys feature scales, tentacles, suction cups, and other design elements meant to mimic the genitalia of dragons, sea creatures, and other fantastical character

We are supposed to think what a wonderful father he is, willing to set aside his masculine energy to please his daughter, when, in truth, the better lesson for his daughter would be to put on a nice jacket, shirt and tie and demonstrate for the little girl that gentlemen can also attend tea parties and act sophisticated.

66 I've been watching Resident Alien which is a show about a space alien that ends up in a podunk town in CO.

A bunch of the main characters are American Indians and they have a reservation not far from the town. So...I didn't think there were many Indians in CO but...ok whatever...I'll accept it.

And then have a black sheriff - but he does have a back story for why he left DC and ended up here which...makes sense. But then they have an Asian nurse among the two nurses at the clinic the alien works at and...they introduced a spunky muslim girl (complete with hijab) as friend to one of the other main characters.

Yes, if it caught, the ship could swing around on the chain. The first report was the port anchor was dragging on the bottom. I expect the length of anchor chain was not enough to help. The more anchor chain the better, as that can set the anchor.

But we dodged a bullet, because the anchor could have severed a major gas pipeline. A conflagration scenario added to the ridge collision would have been much worse. Lots of ignition sources in that collision.

169 WRT the bridge accident, all I know is that the path of the ship was going straight through the center of the gigantic opening between the two piers, then "something" happens and then the ship turns and is aimed directly at the center of one of the piers, not off to one side or glancing, but directly into the pier.

Thanks for asking. She had surgery on the 15th. This knee was in much worse shape and the patellar tendons were damaged. So for two weeks she had to wear a brace that looked like a medieval torture device.

But her recovery has gone much better. We knew how to stay ahead of the pain. She's just now getting out of la-la land for most of the day. I've had a gay old time nursing her, cooking, cleaning, maintaining the house and taking care of the puppies and kennel dogs.

Another issue is that the stern of a boat/ship often tends to go sideways when reversing - which I would assume they would be trying to do during the time power was restored

I do wonder how much anchor chain was out and if they had even started applying the anchor windlass brake yet. Just dropping the hook without cranking on that brake would do nothing

Even in the oilfield, we were always drilled never, never talk to the "press" in the event of an incident, even to say something entirely complimentary of the operator. It's too damned easy for agenda-driven reporters to trip you up.

This! I couldn't wait to drive to have that kind of freedom and be able to socialize with my friends out of the purview of the parents. It's like regression of the desire to individuate. To become an adult by separating yourself from your parents as is the nature of every species. It's like this weird prolonged adolescence. It's not natural. So many parents are permissive of their kids living with them until they're some ridiculous age. My kids moved out at 18 and never came back because I told them they would be paying rent and sharing and utilities and I would still want to know where they were and what they were doing for the most part. They all moved out and are leading successful lives and happy that it was kind of a dick about it.

Oh, they're college-age students. Good point. It's easy to forget how tall that ship was with all those containers piled on top, and just a sheer flat side. Also there's a possibility that they dropped both anchors but only one bit and this helped swing the ship into the bridge pier.

Yes. We only stack them four high in our depot and have had the top one blow off in big wind (now stack them in stair steps to avoid that). Boats use corner casting locks in the stacks.

During process of elimination I discovered that it would work with a 2GB drive but not the larger one. That got me past the scary hurdle of Apple's IOS. I narrowed it down to the cable.

The cable that would work with 2GB but not more. I connected a new cable from the transformer to the 'lightening to USB adapter', plugged in the USB then plugged it into the ipad. Everything worked. Amazing

254 Saw a decent video by one who appeared well versed with ships, merchant marine type, noted that the ship had a single prop /screw and when those hit full reverse there is significant push to one side (due to blunt stern) which will swing its bow. Duel screw ships this effect is balanced.
So... if it appears to change course, in additon to just one anchor catching bottom on the wrong side, it appears to have compounded the problem of the ship merely drifting out of course when power was down.
Might have been less catistrophic if they did nothing....

277 Read an article, and watched a youtube vid. Coles Notes: the big marine diesels have an air-operated starter that is manually engaged. In addition, compressed air is fed to the engine cylinders. Air starter gets the engine turning slowly, then it begins "motoring" on the compressed air to the cylinders. Once that is happening, fuel is introduced, engine speed increases, and the air is shut off.

Single Diesel, 9 cylinder, MAN Diesel, built by Hyundai, under license. Two Primary Generators, two Aux Generators.

The Diesel is a 55,000 hp, 22 RPM, direct drive. (I do not know how they manage to Back Down in Reverse with that arrangement?)

It's not "Locomotive" type, Diesel/Electric.

Three story tall engine, and with the inspection ports removed, you can WALK into the engine crankcase.

Those are started with Compressed Air. I doubt those air tanks give more than about three bites at the apple, for a start. And then, the Generators have to power Compressors, to build up the PSI, yet again.

Twenty minutes to do that, I'd imagine.

Sounds a lot like a big country in North America that is really nearby. When we were with our accountant doing our taxes the other day, he started talking about the impending DOOM coming, when our federal government debt service (not the debt, just the service) exceeds the actual amount of taxation. It is already the single biggest budget item. Coming real soon. A war with Russia, a war with China, Default on the debt. Nothing good. Read that they have to shut it down and reverse the rotation when restarting the engine (by picking the correct cylinder to push air into as they would when starting it?).

I assume the the big diesel for the prop and geenrators for powering everything else are two independent systems. Also, assume that fuel systemis independent form the engine driving the one screw.

293 Single Diesel, 9 cylinder, MAN Diesel, built by Hyundai, under license. Two Primary Generators, two Aux Generators.

The Diesel is a 55,000 hp, 22 RPM, direct drive. (I do not know how they manage to Back Down in Reverse with that arrangement?)

It's not "Locomotive" type, Diesel/Electric.

Three story tall engine, and with the inspection ports removed, you can WALK into the engine crankcase.

Those are started with Compressed Air. I doubt those air tanks give more than about three bites at the apple, for a start. And then, the Generators have to power Compressors, to build up the PSI, yet again.

Twenty minutes to do that, I'd imagine.

Rinse, repeat.

The more conventional generators power everything else but the propeller. Maybe (x2) 1 MW diesel generators. THAT system is what had problems.

FWIW I had a diesel power plant I had to debug. It was already determined that the fuel and lubrication scrubbers were not working right and causing fuel starvation issues... not my field of expertise but studied the schematics traced the actual 'as-built' system and found some pipe-fitter choked a 1' water line down to 3/4" to get through a bulkhead that the other guy drilled a hole too small for a 1" line.

Hubby had surgery this morning. "He did very well" says hospital staff. They now suppose he will be staying in hospital for 3 or 4 days.

'Incarcerated hernia' was caught in time and repaired. Surgeon also removed appendix -- because it was right there and looked like it needed to go. High white blood count and dehydration, so IV antibiotics and fluids.

Prayers always welcome! Hubby is a tough one, but he looked so pale and tired today.

RE: the woman having her car towed from her parking space: At the most recent tenants' rights meeting for my dump, a long-time resident and condo owner told us that he has a sign on his car that says: "If you tow this legally parked car, I will call the State Police, and You Will Go to Jail." I dunno if he's an attorney. But he says that theft of property over $500 is a matter for the State cops, and they will get involved. That may be why the tow company that used to prey on people here (including yours truly) is no longer visiting this complex.

Yesterday, after the Book Thread, I was busy with chores. Darned if I understand it, but my Saturday and Sunday are now encrusted with errands and household tasks. I'm hoping that, once I retire and have my house, those chores (which I'm sure will multiply) can be spread over the whole week and the average day won't be too bad.

I've been hanging the key ring (minus the car fob) on a knotted loop of thick shoelace and putting that around my neck under my workout shirt. It bumps against my chest, but it's not bothersome.

I have one of those too, sans light. I use it as a key chain fob. Period. There is a small compass mounted in the cap of a screw top container that holds matches. Hold the matches, if you must. Period.

I warn our scouts against relying on such jack-of-all-trades, Swiss Army knife wannabes. Spend ten bucks, get a reliable baseplate compass and LEARN HOW TO USE IT.

We do a compass game -- taking compass azimuths (bearings) to map out a path around a circle having eight marked potential locations laid out on it -- once a year. I have been tasked with laying out that course in the parking lot and yard of the church where we meet so that we can run the exercise two or three more times each year. This skill is that important.
