The Biden administration reiterated its observance of the Transgender Day of Visibility on Sunday, despite criticism from Republicans about the day falling on Easter Sunday. Multiple members of Biden’s White House, including himself, recognized the holiday through posts on social media. Biden announced on Friday that Sunday would be recognized as Transgender Day of Visibility, a day of observance that has occurred since 2009 on March 31 each year. This year, however, Easter Sunday also fell on March 31, prompting an outcry from Republicans that Biden was “canceling” the religious holiday. “The Biden White House has betrayed the central tenet of Easter — which is the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said on X. “Banning sacred truth and tradition—while at the same time proclaiming Easter Sunday as “Transgender Day”—is outrageous and abhorrent. The American people are taking note.” Despite the backlash, Biden and other members of his administration moved forward with embracing the holiday. “On Transgender Day of Visibility, we celebrate the joy, strength, and absolute courage of some of the bravest people I know,” Biden posted on X on Sunday. “Today, we show millions of transgender and nonbinary Americans that we see them, they belong, and they should be treated with dignity and respect.” Just once I wish they would celebrate their Perversion Holidays on a Muslim Holy Day. MARCH 25--A manufacturer of “fantasy-themed sex toys” has accused an upstart Brooklyn, New York firm of knocking off its distinctive designs, according to a federal lawsuit alleging that the defendant has infringed on copyrights for dildos such as “Spritz the Seadragon” and “Tyson the Water Buffalo.” In a March 20 complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Arizona, Bad Dragon Enterprises contended that its “sculptural” products have been illegally copied by SinSaint, which is headquartered in a Coney Island warehouse and advertises that all its “Ethically Manufactured” toys are “made in Brooklyn, USA.” Bad Dragon, which noted that it has had “significant commercial success” in the adult toy field, alleged that SinSaint has been selling the duplicative dildos through its website and other trade channels, including the recent AVN Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas (where the new firm’s exhibitor booth was next to that of the all-nude Palomino strip club). The lawsuit identifies 13 separate dildos that Bad Dragon claims have been copied (and renamed) by SinSaint, which was incorporated in New York last year. I like the tea party photo. Far too often these days you can find pictures of men sitting down to a "tea party" with their little daughters, but the men are wearing a dress. We are supposed to think what a wonderful father he is, willing to set aside his masculine energy to please his daughter, when, in truth, the better lesson for his daughter would be to put on a nice jacket, shirt and tie and demonstrate for the little girl that gentlemen can also attend tea parties and act sophisticated.

A bunch of the main characters are American Indians and they have a reservation not far from the town. So...I didn't think there were many Indians in CO but...ok whatever...I'll accept it. And then have a black sheriff - but he does have a back story for why he left DC and ended up here which...makes sense. My daughter (who really is 29) manages a bar /restaurant. When she a toddler, I bestowed upon her a nickname kind of based on her real, unusual name. (She came pre-bamed.) In fact, I composed lyrics to The Flintones Theme using that nickname. So an acquaintance of hers who had been drinking, last night night called her by that nickname. Didn't sing the song, though.

First generation born into a technology first existence. Communication by devices primarily from a very young age.
The newspaper where I went to college had an interesting article on why student participation in things like college arts festivals and other college celebrations is plummeting. Yeah, the screens have a lot to do with it, but students have regressed - a lot fewer students know how to use power tools, and a substantial fraction of students don't know how to drive. As one alumni who works on campus noted: "You can’t build a giant decorative robot if you can’t drive to someplace to buy lumber and plywood, haul it back to campus, and use power tools to build it.” And, of course, your desire to get wild and crazy at a college event declines when everyone carries a videocamera that can record you, and broadcast your behavior to the entire planet. "Weird behaviors or fun are more likely to be videoed or photographed and end up online, where those involved might face consequences." Specifically noted was that casual nudity used to be routine at student celebrations, and is now nonexistent, for obvious reasons. Posted by: The ARC of History! at March 31, 2024 10:33 PM (YAtuc) 82

Lots of blame to go around. The revealed time-line is all over the map. First mayday 8 minutes before the ship hit the bridge? And the roads over the bridge closed 90 seconds before impact? Plus the Ready to Go to Sea checklist had a lot of power failures before underway. Way to cheap out on maintenance. The Chief Engineer and Master have a lot of explaining to do. As does the Coast Guard as Captain of the Port. Tugs should have been alongside if the plant was that dodgy. Poor decisions all around. Posted by: NaCly Dog at March 31, 2024 10:42 PM (u82oZ) 105

A letter dated March 20 addresses the consequences of Republican lawmakers’ choice to legalize hemp production in the 2018 omnibus Farm Bill
Um, hemp is NOT marijuana; it's all about the THC. "Legally, the key difference between the two is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content...The term 'hemp' is used to mean cannabis that contains 0.3 percent or less THC content by dry weight." So state AG's, start measuring that there "hemp" content for THC and find out if it's REALLY hemp, legally. Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at March 31, 2024 10:43 PM (ynpvh) 109

And why learn to drive when you can talk to all your social contacts who I guess they consider friends without having to take the responsibility of learning to drive. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I feel socializing through devices is creating a different kind of creature. It's allowing for the state to surveil every person who has a smartphone. Yes, if it caught, the ship could swing around on the chain. The first report was the port anchor was dragging on the bottom. I expect the length of anchor chain was not enough to help. The more anchor chain the better, as that can set the anchor. But we dodged a bullet, because the anchor could have severed a major gas pipeline. A conflagration scenario added to the ridge collision would have been much worse. Lots of ignition sources in that collision. Posted by: NaCly Dog at March 31, 2024 10:52 PM (u82oZ) 127

Meanwhile, in Ukraine:
1. Russia has been hammering the natural gas storage depots in western Ukraine with long range missiles. The gas stored there was destined for export to EU countries, which now get to feel some more pain of the war. 2. In one of the many battles over a single potato field, the Russians made an assault using 36 tanks and took 30% casualties. This demonstrates that, with current technology, anyone who tries an offensive move can expect to take severe losses. 3. Speaking of tanks, a 6th US Abrams, of the 31 supplied, was destroyed. Which only shows that US tanks aren't a wonder weapon and a game changer. Posted by: Idaho Spudboy at March 31, 2024 11:01 PM (CFtGR) 169
WRT the bridge accident, all I know is that the path of the ship was going straight through the center of the gigantic opening between the two piers, then "something" happens and then the ship turns and is aimed directly at the center of one of the piers, not off to one side or glancing, but directly into the pier.
That's awfully "bad luck." Posted by: Thomas Bender at March 31, 2024 11:01 PM (XV/Pl) 170
Dr T, yeah. It's like that bridge that got hit in Oklahoma today. Looks like it was barge that broke off a string of barges cuz some fool didn't secure it, and it drifted off into a bridge abutment. Luckily it didn't weigh 100,000 tons.

Another issue is that the stern of a boat/ship often tends to go sideways when reversing - which I would assume they would be trying to do during the time power was restored I do wonder how much anchor chain was out and if they had even started applying the anchor windlass brake yet. Yeah, I find that very disturbing. What sort of sixteen-year-old doesn't want to get out of the house, and away from parents and family? The idea that sitting in your house on social media is an acceptable substitute is very frightening. Posted by: The ARC of History This! I couldn't wait to drive to have that kind of freedom and be able to socialize with my friends out of the purview of the parents. It's like regression of the desire to individuate. To become an adult by separating yourself from your parents as is the nature of every species. It's like this weird prolonged adolescence. It's not natural. So many parents are permissive of their kids living with them until they're some ridiculous age. My kids moved out at 18 and never came back because I told them they would be paying rent and sharing and utilities and I would still want to know where they were and what they were doing for the most part. I've been watching Resident Alien which is a show about a space alien that ends up in a podunk town in CO.
A bunch of the main characters are American Indians and they have a reservation not far from the town. So...I didn't think there were many Indians in CO but...ok whatever...I'll accept it. And then have a black sheriff - but he does have a back story for why he left DC and ended up here which...makes sense. But then they have an Asian nurse among the two nurses at the clinic the alien works at and...they introduced a spunky muslim girl (complete with hijab) as friend to one of the other main characters. WHY DOES THE LEFT HAVE TO MAKE EVERYTHING STUPIDLY POLITICALLY CORRECT. Easy, They believe little towns in the middle of rural states are filled with a tremendous mix of minorities the same way they believe the poor living conditions of black people in cities that have been run by Democrats for 100 years are the fault of mysterious Republicans who keep them down somehow Posted by: azjaeger at March 31, 2024 11:50 PM (3/XaG) 244

Dali is a single screw, Diesel powered shaft, after reduction gear/transmission.
In addition. If the Aux Generators aren't online, there is no hydraulic power to move the rudder, should the Main Propulsion fail. And IF there ARE Bow Thrusters, those wouldn't work, either. NTSB should have already logged at least Five Hundred Hours of digital video, through every engineering space aboard that ship. And about half that for the Bridge and Navigation spaces. All of which, should be immediately POSTED ONLINE for Public Review. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at March 31, 2024 11:54 PM (e6UQI) 248
iPad problem: it would charge but when I hooked up a thumb drive it would not support it. Was it the transformer, the cable, or picayune Apple's new update foiling my usage of a thumb drive or what?
During process of elimination I discovered that it would work with a 2GB drive but not the larger one. That got me past the scary hurdle of Apple's IOS. I narrowed it down to the cable. The cable that would work with 2GB but not more. I connected a new cable from the transformer to the 'lightening to USB adapter', plugged in the USB then plugged it into the ipad. Everything worked. Saw a decent video by one who appeared well versed with ships, merchant marine type, noted that the ship had a single prop /screw and when those hit full reverse there is significant push to one side (due to blunt stern) which will swing its bow. Duel screw ships this effect is balanced.
So... if it appears to change course, in additon to just one anchor catching bottom on the wrong side, it appears to have compounded the problem of the ship merely drifting out of course when power was down. Might have been less catistrophic if they did nothing.... As always... Crew Error. Posted by: Itinerant Alley Butcher at March 31, 2024 11:58 PM (cOq4q) 255

Read an article, and watched a youtube vid. Coles Notes: the big marine diesels have an air-operated starter that is manually engaged. In addition, compressed air is fed to the engine cylinders. Air starter gets the engine turning slowly, then it begins "motoring" on the compressed air to the cylinders. Once that is happening, fuel is introduced, engine speed increases, and the air is shut off.

Just read up on the M.V. Dali.
Single Diesel, 9 cylinder, MAN Diesel, built by Hyundai, under license. Two Primary Generators, two Aux Generators. The Diesel is a 55,000 hp, 22 RPM, direct drive. (I do not know how they manage to Back Down in Reverse with that arrangement?) It's not "Locomotive" type, Diesel/Electric. Three story tall engine, and with the inspection ports removed, you can WALK into the engine crankcase. Those are started with Compressed Air. I doubt those air tanks give more than about three bites at the apple, for a start. And then, the Generators have to power Compressors, to build up the PSI, yet again. Twenty minutes to do that, I'd imagine. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at April 01, 2024 12:25 AM (e6UQI) 279

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon ---------------------- WAG - They almost never go into reverse. Tugs guide them to channel, fire up propulsion, cruise a few thousand miles, 24/7, near to the next port, throttle down, tugs guide you in. Rinse, repeat. The more conventional generators power everything else but the propeller. Maybe (x2) 1 MW diesel generators. THAT system is what had problems. FWIW I had a diesel power plant I had to debug. It was already determined that the fuel and lubrication scrubbers were not working right and causing fuel starvation issues... not my field of expertise but studied the schematics traced the actual 'as-built' system and found some pipe-fitter choked a 1' water line down to 3/4" to get through a bulkhead that the other guy drilled a hole too small for a 1" line. WAG - They almost never go into reverse.
Hey Jim Sunk-
Following your advice looks promising. The adults are now in charge and have launched a proper investigation. In addition to actively searching for the fugitive they are approaching it as a homicide rather than a missing persons case. The plan is to start from scratch with a forensically rigorous search and exploitation of the site, beginning with a new K9 search, then a forensic dig. As soon as snowmelt and air temps are optimal. they are all "conspiracy hypotheses" until you find something that is falsifiable. Once you have that, it is a hypothesis
"Falsifiable" means an element that you can prove to be right or wrong, as opposed to something that no one can ever prove. Posted by: Kindltot at April 01, 2024 12:39 AM (D7oie) You can't prove anything either. Now, step back a second. The Europeans wants to get out of debt by plunging themselves DEEPER INTO DENT through one of the most expensive endeavors a government can do, AND while their populations are in collapse? They want to disrupt their economies at the moment they can least afford to do so? Be a Conspiro all you want, but at least do so in a way that makes sense. Tom Luongo (my favorite neo-Larouchite) thinks that it depends on if the Euro or the Dollar breaks first. One goes and the other is needed to fill in the gap and is restrengthened. The rising Fed rates are a way to reign in the spending by making it too expensive. It may cause a recession, but it will also slow inflation.
The ECB is facing the same choice and will have even worse options if the Eu decides to mount it's own army to challenge Russia Posted by: Kindltot at April 01, 2024 12:47 AM (D7oie) I stopped reading at LaRouche. Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at April 01, 2024 01:10 AM (8sMut) 318

I dunno if he's an attorney. But he says that theft of property over $500 is a matter for the State cops, and they will get involved. That may be why the tow company that used to prey on people here (including yours truly) is no longer visiting this complex. Anyone see any trannies today?Weren't they supposed to come out of hiding today ?
Posted by: Sock Monkey * hanging out at the corner of Crazy and Sanity at April 01, 2024 *** Miss Linda went to watch an Easter Parade yesterday and showed me a pic she took of two hairy guys in fluffy, egg-decorated dresses. As you said, JQ, not even mailing it in or trying to look female. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at April 01, 2024 03:40 AM (omVj0) 391
Mornin' Wolfus!
Wow, hope you get out of that "dump" ASAP! --- It ain't Monday enough yet, to know just how Monday it's gonna get... Posted by: JQ at April 01, 2024 03:40 AM (njWTi) 392
I saw a tranny today!
Was looking under my truck, to assess the weed-growth underneath & determine whether I should haul out a garden hose before starting it up... in case the weeds caught fire from the exhaust pipes. LOL Yep. C6 is right there! That's my tranny! Posted by: JQ at April 01, 2024 *** "I geared that tranny into super-low. . . ." I'm gonna call it an evening. Major frustrations with younger one. To ignorant to realize he can't skim through life ignoring school and his other responsibilities and expect I'll always support him. Right now it's 18th birthday and he's out of the house.

Anyway! I'm up, drinking coffee; had almost enough sleep. Temp 72 F., 91% humidity (ugh to that combo), about 10 mph wind. Okay for working out, I guess. Nice or not, I gotta get started on the week.
Yesterday, after the Book Thread, I was busy with chores. Darned if I understand it, but my Saturday and Sunday are now encrusted with errands and household tasks. I'm hoping that, once I retire and have my house, those chores (which I'm sure will multiply) can be spread over the whole week and the average day won't be too bad. Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at April 01, 2024 *** We have a shop here called "Trans Way." Yes, it's a transmission shop, and the sign says the owner's last name is Tran (so it should by rights be "Tran's Way"). Still, it's odd. Part of the difference in working out in this warm weather, besides wearing lighter clothes, is that I need to bring a bottle of water with me and find some way to carry my keys. I've been hanging the key ring (minus the car fob) on a knotted loop of thick shoelace and putting that around my neck under my workout shirt. It bumps against my chest, but it's not bothersome.

What's your setup for carrying the water bottle?
Posted by: m at April 01, 2024 *** In one hand or the other, so I can drink at will or pour some into the other hand to splash on my face and neck, and maybe arms. Not that it evaporates much for any real cooling. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at April 01, 2024 04:00 AM (omVj0) 406

I have a carabiner that has a compass and a light built onto it. Like something a Scout would want. Posted by: m I have one of those too, sans light. I use it as a key chain fob. Period. There is a small compass mounted in the cap of a screw top container that holds matches. Hold the matches, if you must. Period. I warn our scouts against relying on such jack-of-all-trades, Swiss Army knife wannabes. Spend ten bucks, get a reliable baseplate compass and LEARN HOW TO USE IT. We do a compass game -- taking compass azimuths (bearings) to map out a path around a circle having eight marked potential locations laid out on it -- once a year. I have been tasked with laying out that course in the parking lot and yard of the church where we meet so that we can run the exercise two or three more times each year. This skill is that important.
