86 Mercury amalgamates with many metals. If you play with liquid mercury then don't wear gold or silver jewelry as it will be ruined. An amalgam is a solution of the metal in mercury. Often solid, useful as dental fillings (now replaced by resins, etc.?). Heating the amalgam makes the mercury distill and leaves behind the other metal, but the worse for wear - it won't look like that wedding band that you didn't remove.
Other metals? Lead, copper, tin, platinum but not iron. Sodium amalgam is great for super-drying solvents in the lab. Sodium makes a nice flash when dropped into liquid mercury.

If you bend your heating element to fit the bottom of the wok it would do all right I imagine. If you used a pot with water to conduct heat it wouldn't get hot enough to cook well.

I generally assume that the most egregious accounts on *all* sides are probably bots/trolls meant to cause division. I believe there was a study a couple of years ago, which means it's been long enough that I can't be sure, that showed this was likely.

Dad had a dog like that when I was little. Unfortunately, a dog we boarded for a friend was a chicken killer and taught Bunny to do the same. Dad felt horrible when he had to put her down. He didn't have a dog for about 10 years after that, although Mom had a little white mop of an indoor dog, so we weren't dogless.

Look. It's really simple. Aluminum would all spontaneously react with oxygen in the air to form that white, fluffy oxide, were it not for the fact that it is always coated with a thin film of hard, transparent oxide that protects it. Mercury will form an alloy with aluminum, called amalgam, that erases that hard layer of protective oxide, and the aluminum simply slowly burns up. Left unchecked, it would eventually eat a hole right through that plate.

I found a mess of spilled mercury once on a set of concrete stairs outdoors at my high school. Swept it all up, brought the mercury-laden dirt home, and panned it clean (like panning for gold!) in an old aluminum pan. The next day, that pan was covered in white whiskers, and riddled with tiny holes.

They used to use it in science class to coat pennies. It was also used to gild copper by dissolving gold in it and then letting it plate the copper mechanically.
That sort of gilding was used by navies because it was more enduring than electro-plating, and it was more traditional.

IIRC that was the method the Roman Empire used to coat bronze denarii, too.
