NY Court of Appeals Lowers Amout of Bond Trump Must Post to Appeal from $454 Million to $175 Million
Trump had moved for the court to accept a $100 million bond, which he said he could afford. Of course the court could not do what Trump asked; they have to punish him and treat him like a rapist.
Hopefully Trump can come up with the extra $75 million to get this appeal started. Once he exhausts NY state appeals, I think he can then appeal to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals (which is liberal) and then the Supreme Court. A New York appeals court paused for 10 days a massive civil fraud judgment against former President Donald Trump. The court also and sharply reduced the bond he would have to post to obtain a longer stay to $175 million. Trump's lawyers in a court filing last week said that it was "impossible" for him to get an appeal bond of $454 million to satisfy the judgment in that amount, having approached more than 30 surety companies without success.
A New York appeals court on Monday paused for 10 days a massive civil fraud judgment against former President Donald Trump, and sharply reduced to $175 million the bond amount he would have to post to obtain a longer stay of that damage award. The ruling came the same day that New York Attorney General Letitia James would have been allowed to start seizing Trump's real estate and bank accounts to satisfy the $454 million-and-rising business fraud judgment in the case. The order by the five-judge appeals courts panel prevents James from doing so, for now. Trump's lawyers, who had previously suggested that the bond be set at $100 million, in a court filing last week said that it was "impossible" for him to get an appeal bond of $454 million after having approached more than 30 surety companies without success. Trump's two adults sons, his company the Trump Organization and two executives who all were co-defendants in the case owe a total of about $10 million in additional damages. None of the surety companies were willing to write a bond without Trump posting cash or some other liquid asset, the attorneys wrote in their filing with the Manhattan Supreme Court appellate division panel. Because of the size of the fraud judgment, the companies insisted that Trump show "cash reserves approaching $1 billion," according to his lawyers. But neither Trump nor the Trump Organization company has that amount of cash on hand, the filing said.The criminal James and the criminal Engeron purposely made the fine so large that only someone with one billion in cash could even file an appeal to challenge their corrupt orders. This is all deliberate.

At this point I think they literally had no choice but to intervene. Trump's constitutional rights were not just being trampled on, they were being ripped to shreds. He had/has a slam dunk civil rights case for the state of NY violating his 8th amendment rights. I would say half a billion dollar fine is a tad bit excessive especially when there is no victim of the *crime* he was deemed guilty of.

Turley is a smart guy but he's wrong on this. The vast majority of citizens are cheering this on. They know such political persecutions will always be used against their political enemies, never against those having Approved Opinions. It's a "Heads I Win, Tails You Lose" scenario.

It's incredible that any bond at all was required. Bonds are required to guarantee repayment of the judgment. In normal circumstances, judgment creditors are worried that debtors will move money or assets out of the jurisdiction to make collection much harder.
But in Trump's case, he has hundreds of millions of dollars of real estate in NY that can't be moved. No matter what happens on appeal, those assets will always be there for seizure. It's a built-in guarantee of payment. No bond is necessary.

They probably think they have the power on paper, the hangup is that they need enough political cover to drone the opposition for a couple of weeks, and/or need some missing pieces to allow for more efficient targeting (for example, imagine if they'd managed to play jab mandates into mandatory vax pass apps on mobile devices).
It is not as far off as people think it is. Even back during the Obama admin they were using military network analysis tools to map out political opponents as lawfare/regulatory targets.

Roadhouse '24 was pretty bad. Roadhouse '89 was pretty bad but at least had some hotties and some memorable / quotable lines. It's at least worthy of repeat watching. In the new one, Jake G delivered some really bad acting. Connor Mc Gregor delivered some really bad over-acting. The fight scenes were filmed so weirdly -- looked like video game footage with the 360-degree aspect.

The Democrats by persecuting Trump have breeched every barrier of what constitutes a normally functioning political system. It is not only thinkable but is now actual practice that the Democrats are attempting to strip a political opponent of his wealth not only to cripple his campaign but to permanently destroy him financially and also send him to prison, effectively for life, to ensure the Democrats control the political process.
The question left is not if they will use these reign of terror tactics in the future but against whom, when, and how they will be refined and expanded. If the Democrats win in November they will destroy him in short order and if Trump beats back this Democrat insurrection, in court and in politics, they will keep coming after him and very likely ramp up a the civil unrest and riots as they did during his first term.
The Cheese-Whiz as I see things isn't going back in the tube anytime soon if ever.

Roadhouse '24 was pretty bad. Roadhouse '89 was pretty bad but at least had some hotties and some memorable / quotable lines. It's at least worthy of repeat watching. In the new one, Jake G delivered some really bad acting. Connor Mc Gregor delivered some really bad over-acting. The fight scenes were filmed so weirdly -- looked like video game footage with the 360-degree aspect.

Sure, this should seem obvious, yet I'm dubious that the fallout lands. Mr. Wonderful is seen as a partisan even though he isn't because he dares to point out the egregiousness of the ruling, so he can be discounted as such.
Everyone else is looking for a reason to believe they won't have to restructure their entire financial portfolio so the fig leaf of saying it's only for the BadManOrange will be enough for the vast majority of money players.

More risk of any kind reduces investment without a commensurate increase in yield to offset risk. And what isn't much taught in econ is that investment or as Keynes put it, animal spirits, is the most changeable of decisions compared with consumer or government spending.

I don’t know what your pains are, but if joint related, try a glucosamine / chrondroitin blend, make sure it also has MSM in it. It won’t be immediate, but over time it’s quite helpful. Adding tumeric helps with inflammation.

I was surprised that Ace gave his approval to the Road House remake.
I wouldn't say that Road House was a formative movie for me, I think I only saw it once, years after it was out. But I did get the impression that it was the kind of movie that portrayed a version of masculinity that is completely unthinkable today. Swayze's character wasn't just good looking and tough, he had a calm intensity about him that you could tell he was always the most in control person in the room. He knew how to fight, but he also understood that knowing how to fight wasn't the only important thing and should be used as a last resort. He was quiet and softspoken, he didn't make quips like action movies today do. He was not a dangerous man, but the kind of man who could have been a dangerous man had he been less virtuous.
That's the kind of male power fantasy that hollywood either hates or doesn't know how to make any more. I like Jake Gyllenhall's acting, but from the trailers, he doesn't have the same kind of energy at all. At least from the trailers, the people who made the movie didn't seem like they got what the appeal was in the original.

I mentioned just the due process argument but arguably there is a takings clause federal case, NY constitutional case, diversity issues, and then you have lenders involved and possibly co ownership of assets within the reach of this decision.
That legal risk is why NY State government shot itself in the nuts because it establishes that a floozy Didn't Earn It AG and a nutjob judge can institute expensive legal cases in NY state that involve substantial risk to investments in real estate.

You have to do all of it, and ensure enough fats to lubricate your joints. You may not be pain free, especially if you don’t know the root cause. If the root cause is general aging, and body wear and tear, it should help. And you know I am going to say it, because I am me, a regular exercise program is really important. I am not suggesting you need to lose weight at all, I don’t know, but for me, getting the extra 50 pounds of my joints was a great relief. Building muscle, improving bone density, stretching, balance work. and just the moving part has reversed a ton of what used to hurt. I am going for reverse aging. It’s working great on my mind! 😂 seriously, I had a complete lifestyle switch 2.5 years ago and I am not going back. I may be obnoxious about it, but the results speak for themselves.

The question left is not if they will use these reign of terror tactics in the future but against whom, when, and how they will be refined and expanded. If the Democrats win in November they will destroy him in short order and if Trump beats back this Democrat insurrection, in court and in politics, they will keep coming after him and very likely ramp up a the civil unrest and riots as they did during his first term.

I think the makeup of the Senate will be radically different next year. Romney is gone. Manchin is gone. Sinema is gone. A number of Ds in red states looking at defeat. Many more Ds up for reelection than Rs. Rs then control committees. This means that RINOs have no incentive to side with the Ds. I also think there is enough unrest to at least keep a small majority in the house.

The NY appellate division definitely reduced the bond , in my view, to avoid a quick dismissal of the case by a fed ct when the appeals get there based upon the 8th Amendment ban on unreasonable fines or punishments. All of Trump's cases will be chipped away by appellate cts to the point that there will be nothing left

Unless you believe in the Many Worlds thesis, most of what people predict now is going to be wrong in some way or another.
The usual way to make such predictions is what Heinlein did in his Worlds of Robert Heinlein. He made his original predictions in 1952, revised them in the sixties and then again in the last edition and commented why he was right on some and wrong on others.

Roadhouse '24 was pretty bad. Roadhouse '89 was pretty bad but at least had some hotties and some memorable / quotable lines. It's at least worthy of repeat watching. In the new one, Jake G delivered some really bad acting. Connor Mc Gregor delivered some really bad over-acting. Out of that you can surmise that for everyone who wants to sell and not lose their ass there must be a buyer, which means that the city and state will realize not much loss over the short term.
The only way I see this hurting the players gleefully abusing the system is in long term lack of new money coming in.

The third reason is that the Court saw the possible devastating effects this case could have on real estate investment in NY, and on the NY economy in general, despite Gov. Hochul’s assurance to potential investors that Trump was a unique case and they needn’t be worried. There may have been some discreet calls from business leaders to acquaintances on the Court of Appeals that they didn’t want NYC to go into a real estate doom loop like San Francisco

It wasn't the Court of Appeals, which is New York's highest court, but the Appellate Division, First Department, which hears appeals from New York and Bronx County Supreme Court judges (the Supreme Court being the lowest court of general jurisdiction).

Its still a total violation of the 8th Amendment and should be totally dismissed and the Judge removed from the Bench
