The pups turned four months old last week. They've gone from being roly-poly to being leggy and gawky. They're all very nice from a conformation perspective. They're entered in 4-6 Beginner Puppy competition at shows this week to give them some practice. Phoenix and Puff will be going to the National Specialty in late May/early June.

I would expect Base Supply on Whiteman, where all the B2s are based would have the windscreens in stock, and not have to order one from the depot. Back in the Dark Ages when I was in the AF, I know canopies were stocked on base, and were occasionally replaced due to cracks or scratches.

Wayne's character recognized that. He knew the West that he was a part of and created was disappearing. Stewart's character was its future. It hurt like hell, but Wayne saw it coming, and backed away. Great movie.

3 months shy of 101. when folks got to a certain age and passed, she would declare their age to the nearest 1/2 year. So for her, she was 100 and 3/4. Her and my uncle are together again (he passed in 2017 at the age of 98 after almost 75 years of marriage).

a bit of it here (read jj's taki piece in the sidebar) and it's been a huge point of contention on the X platform. Still, there's a site with a guy who used to drive an aircraft carrier who's put up some good technical information, and he says (to put it briefly) that what is seen is consistent with complete power failure, and also that a ship of that size will drift off course when it's at speed and loses power. also, there is a lot of evidence of the crew frantically trying to restore power in the 8 minutes between their mayday call and the impact on the bridge.
one aspect people forgot - all these new ships are driven by a computer screen and a joystick. when power drops out, the bridge crew becomes just some guys in a room staring at a blank computer screen.

If you go to the bottom of it (Daily Mail), there's an imbed of the former director's lawsuit for wrongful termination, et al. (surprisingly, in Alameda County across the bay from me). Unsurprisingly, like most lawyers, they can't get their lines of text to line up with the numbers in the left margin. It's easy in WordPerfect but almost everyone uses MS Word. If you take the time to deep dive into Word, it's doable. I like having my lines line up with the numbers.

a standard brush motor has a couple of carbon contacts that break and make contact as the motor spins, a brushless motor has a diode that does the same thing.
I think the brushless is lighter, cheaper and may be quieter.
the standard one may be more sturdy.

Can you imagine the guy having to run from the bridge, down twenty flights of steps and ships ladders, stumbling around below deck trying to find a big ass lever to release an anchor chain where individual links probably weigh like 500 lbs each.... I don't think it is physically possible to manually release the anchor.

They are all rotary. "Universal" motors, which are AC/DC and have brushes, have been used for such chores for more than 100 years. You would probably never wear the brushes out.
The new hotness is "brushless DC motors" that use an inverter to supply AC to the windings, with the AC frequency optimized for the speed of the motor in real time.
Given that small power tools in that class are basically throw-away, if they stop working, bottom line is it doesn't matter.

They last longer as the brushes wear. I seem to recall permanent magnets on the rotor, so by switching which sets of motor coils on the stator are turned on (and in which direction the current is flowing) you generate a magnetic field that makes the rotor move.

Was just reading reports that they've got a 160 lift-ton, barge mounted crane, in place and being rigged for the first lift of a Key Bridge segment.
They've got a 1,000 lift-ton crane on another barge, standing by for doing the heavier lifts.
Goal is to get a "limited" open channel open, ASAP. 'Cause they want to get all the other needed salvage ships, siting them as needed, all around the wreck zone.
Soon as they can get the downed bridge out of the Deep Water Channel, then they can move the Dali, itself.
Tragedy aside, those Salvage Contractors are not only going to make some serious bank, but they rightly may be considered on par with the Red Adair and Coots & Boots efforts after the 1st Gulf War.
Just, underwater, this time around.

Depends on how far apart your vertical numbers are. I've seen line spacings from 22.4 to 23.8. The real problem is after you do single-spaced block quotes, getting the next line of double-spaced (not at 24 point) to line up. The key is being able to insert between 2 and 12 points in the beginning line of text. Few attorneys seem to know that.

I was doing some commercial diving 29 or so years ago and we were getting paid $100/hour just for inspection work. Divers on this job will be getting paid a lot more and deserve it. Seriously dangerous work.

We had no issues tonight at perhaps the world's longest Easter Vigil - 3 hours.
BUT, our priest was worried that a dry run of trouble was conducted during last night's service. Six strangers, all young men in a group were there and claimed they were visiting for spring break. Uh, nobody comes here for spring break - no young women, no beach. Had they said they were visiting there Nonnas, no one would have raised an eyebrow. In any case, we added a bit more staff tonight and for tomorrow's service also.

One of the guys side-gigs was teaching people how to dive just for bridge and dam inspections. Focused on getting people with tech skills to dive because he beleived it easier to learn diving than engineering (for example) to inspect bridges and dams, etc.
He also had a search and recovery class with some basic underwater forensics because things start changing as soon as they are pulled out.

Way more skills than we had. We just did inspections and minor repairs and we were dumb enough to do it.
And it is definitely easier to learn to dive than to learn engineering.

Nothing deep. No mixed gasses. But still. Helluva job. And I guess the risk... Helluva drug.

Dr. seemed extremely optimistic & thinks it's more due to intestine being folded/twisted than "plugged". Says since there's hernia (which he says is separate from the intestinal issue) he will go in and fix hernia, and gently untangle the intestine, without cutting/sectioning it.

I am not a basketball fan of any sort. Of late, not much of a sportsball fan of any sort (used watch the NFL as a kid and some baseball, but that's been a long time ago).
But, my mother has a always been a big sportsball fan, particular college basketball. And she's a big fan of the SC girl gamecocks which are undefeated. Big game tomorrow, which I'll have to set up for her to watch.
And then tonight, my alma mater, Clempson Cow Collidge was in the "Elite 8" agin' Alabama. Neither has been much of basketball program, and this was just the second time Clempson made it this far the last 8 in NCAA history. And it would be the first time in history either one made it to the final four.
So I watched. Clempson lost. And I'll have to admit that 'Bama deserved to win. They played better.

Anyway, having to get familiar with the NCAA girls for my mother's sake to watch down here, I saw something. This gal, Caitlin Clarke, plays for Iowa, surpassed Pistol Pete's NCAA scoring record this month, which was 3667 points.
And a lot of people are crowing about that. A girl has beat Pistol Pete. I knew something was wrong, there should be no comparison. And there isn't. When Pistol Pete played, it was only for 3 seasons. Freshmen couldn't play varsity level period.
Third, it was before the 3 point line was instituted, and before the shot clock.
When you try to factor that in, Pistol Pete would've probably made over 5000 pts easily per the current rules. Not to mention playing against other boys at his level, not girls.

They will do it for kids now. Like my girl when she was five.

Yeah, hubby had emergency surgery a couple years ago, where his intestines had gone thru & gotten pinched in his belly-button hernia.
A few months later, this new hernia cropped up right next to the umbilical repair (he no longer has a belly button) and the Dr's are referring to it as "umbilical" anyway.
Meh. At least his intestine doesn't seem to be pinched up thru a hole in the muscle wall like last time.
But maybe the belly-binder he was told to wear, has been tight enough to restrict his guts and *cause* the fold/twist?
